Hey guys... I logged into the virtual console today, to see a brand new game added: A link to the past. Quickly, I get my parents to drop in $10 and purchase the game. It is playable with a Classic Controller, or a Gamecube Controller... NOT. I plugged in my Gamecube controller hoping to play the game I never got to when growing up... but it asks me for a Classic Controller. I head back to the shop channel to make sure I read it correctly, and sure enough, it claims that one can play with a Classic Controller, or a Gamecube controller... I head to Wikipedia and it tells me the same thing...

Is anyone else having this problem...? Or is it just me... Is there something I must do...? Help is appreciated :-)

Are you sure you placed the cube controller in slot 1?

Are you sure the GameCube controller is not broken? If you are not sure try to play a GameCube game on your Wii.

Did you push "A" on the GameCube controller when it asked you to have a classic controller in?  Because I just did that and it works for me.

... Are you using a Wavebird? Sometimes those get knocked into a different channel without you noticing. Make sure it's in channel 1 (you change it on the switch on the bottom of the controller).

Hyrule_boy: Check last picture.
4Sword: Tried. Including a combination of all different buttons, etc.
Hero of Fire: Using a pelican.

Then obviously there's some bug meaning Nintendo didn't allow the use of the GameCube controller in ALTTP. You should find out if it works for other players, too. Obviously it's not your controller, and not your fault.

Unless there IS something you're doing wrong.

Well then, I do not know what your problem is because when I go into the Wii Menu and select LTTP and run it, it asks me for the classic controller.  I have my GameCube controller plugged into slot one and I am currently playing the game with the GameCube controller right now.  I will try with my Mad Catz controller to see if it still works.

Edit: Works with a Classic controller, my Mad Catz controller, and my Nintendo GameCube controller.  Maybe you thought press the "A" button on the Wii remote when I told you what to do, so maybe you should try pressing the "A" on the GameCube controller.  Sometimes I make mistakes when I rush too.

Yeah, I still do not know what your problem is.  I just put in either my GameCube or MadCatz controller into Slot 1 and when it asks for the Classic controller, I just hit "A" or "Start" on the GameCube or MadCatz controller.  Nintendo did not make a mistake on its end.

Actually, I do not even need to press A or start, it does it for me.

I sat for 15 minutes trying different combinations, pressing 'A', 'Start', etc, with no luck. My controller works perfectly fine when I play, for example, Super Mario Sunshine on the Wii.

It should work, I just played it with the GC controller. Redownload, I guess.

Now that's something I didn't think of :P I'll try in a few minutes. Some family members hijacked it and are playing Wii Sports at the moment.

Yeah. It's a Pelican. (Looks like this: http://www.hardgamers.com/images/manettespelican/thumbs/G3multi03.jpg)
Unfortunately I don't have access to the controller that came equipped at the moment.

Any explanations for why mine won't work except that "it's not 1st party"? Works on the GameCube and the Wii... just apparently not for the VC (which doesn't make sense at all...)

Did you try it with any other VC game?

Also, if you have a 1st party GCN controller, why not just try it?  Just try random stuff!  You won't know until you try it. :P

Mines a genuine first party, so I guess you're out of luck... sorry.
