Discussion / Photobucket / Broken Links
« on: May 24, 2019, 04:37:48 pm »
If any of you had used Photobucket in the past, your old accounts with images may soon change. I recently got emails from them talking about reducing the number of image stored in my account and also that I have exceeded their bandwidth - to where if I did not reduce my usage or pay them a monthly fee that my images would be watermarked or made inaccessible.

My main point is to say that if anyone else uses Photobucket as a free image host (e.g., you have images in a Photobucket account that you link to for a project/game or sprite here), you may want to download them from Photobucket and reupload here or elsewhere. It would be sad to see sprites or spritesheets ruined by watermark or to lose that history. The easiest way to download all images off of Photobucket for me was to download the Photobucket app off of the Android Play store (it gives you an option to mass download entire albums instead of picture by picture).

I don't know if I am fan of the style of the gameplay but I'm hyped about new Zelda 2D art. It kind of reminds me of the ZFGC sprite style attempted a few years ago but with additional polish.

Updates / Happy 10 Years on SMF, ZFGC!
« on: April 02, 2016, 12:22:37 am »
It went by without much fanfare, but I wanted to throw it out there that 10 years ago on April 1st, 2006, Zelda Fan Game Central started back up after that period of time after Gamers Advanced / DSRevolution and ZFGC-X Invisionfree variants. Been a funky ride since then but surprised many of us are still here. Congratulations on making it that far with us all, and onward to the years ahead.

Coding / What Version of Game Maker Do You Use Most?
« on: July 15, 2014, 12:51:41 am »
I am curious about the version of Game Maker that people use now. I am thinking that most people here on ZFGC who use Game Maker are between Game Maker 8 and Game Maker Studio but I am not sure.

Entertainment / Zelda Skrillex Game
« on: November 29, 2012, 02:52:08 am »
I was browsing Reddit and this game came up and it plays sort of like a 3D-viewed NES Legend of Zelda but with Skrillex's music. It's a good time-waster and is very visually interesting.

Discussion / NCFC Still Happening
« on: September 09, 2012, 07:42:08 pm »
I have been wondering if they were going to have the event this year and was starting to get disappointed when for most of August it didn't seem like the event would be held. However, on August 26th, it was announced on http://www.nintendocfc.com/ that it is still going to happen!

Have no idea when though, but is anyone planning on submitting a project entry to the event this year?

Feedback / Profile Modifications
« on: July 09, 2012, 04:13:32 am »
A few days ago I noticed that the gender in my profile was switched to female. Thinking that I may have switched it by accident when I modified my signature, I changed it back to male. Now with certainty that I haven't changed my profile since then and knowing that at that time I had absolutely set it back to male, someone or something has changed my profile again so that it says female.

I would like whoever is modifying my profile to please stop doing so.

Side Quests / [Submission] Kinstone Coins
« on: July 03, 2012, 05:17:15 am »
Coin Collector / Hobobum
An old man who acquired a wealth of treasures from his world travels. He became withdrawn from a society which only valued the monetary value of his collection over the stories he told of attaining them. Over the course of many years of the rich trying to ruin him so that they could take his treasures cheaply and the poor trying to steal them to sell for a quick profilt, the old man built a series of vaults in the sewers under Hyrule Town in order to safegauard all of his treasure. Eventually he came to spend most of his time outside the first vault door.

When Link first meets him, Hobobum is hostile but unassuming in his disheveled appearance and location. If Link comes back to talk to him after first finding a rare coin - he will recognize Link as a true adventurer, open up about his past, and give him a heart piece as an incentive to see if he can find any more of the coins throughout Hyrule. The more coins you get the further into the vaults Link will be able to go.

The Treasure
This could be any item found in the Zelda series not necessary for the game completion. The items though would provide some benefit as their own unique item or as an improved/varied version of an existing item. Hobobum views Link as worthy of having the items because they would help his adventure.

The Coins
Ancient kinstone coins which can be found across Hyrule in small chests, buried in certain spots, or as something that can be obtained through side-quests.

Minish Cap GBA Programming using C/ASM though Tonc

I am currently working on trying to understand how to program in C/ASM using Tonc to make games on the GameBoy Advance. This topic is to keep track of my progress in learning how to do that and to share my code with those who might find that useful. Eventually I plan on including documentation and tutorials on what I did, but this will be released after I reach and refine aspects of the coded features.

Updates
06/25/2012 - simple sprites, background graphics, framework for having more than one room
07/08/2012 - palette changing, having rooms larger than the screen size
08/27/2012 - simple animation, Link's standing and walking graphics converted
09/03/2012 - improved and irregular animation rates, movement added back in
02/03/2017 - redone various improvements

Entertainment / Toonami is Coming Back!
« on: April 01, 2012, 10:32:18 pm »
Did any of you see it? I ended up missing the first part of it because really Adult Swim on Saturdays always leads off with non-anime so I usually just watch the repeat of the first anime that shows. Otherwise though it was pretty epic waking up after being semi-passed out to see Tenchi Muyo on the television. It was kind of a cruel joke though because of the Toonami nostalgia but it was cool to see it around even if it ends up being for just one last time.

But yeah, here is a video of the transitions that someone posted on YouTube. The episodes they ended up covering were all pretty good ones too:

Updates / Administrative Changes
« on: March 25, 2012, 07:46:26 pm »
Hello everyone. I have been an administrator here off and on for many years. There have been some good times and bad times, but more recently I have not been as productive as I could be and I have made those on the staff feel less welcome here by being too much of a cold-hearted taskmaster. Additionally I lack the abilities to update the site or the creativity to make it something better, and only a team of people of somewhat equal skills could do that - and I am no Xfixium.

Last night I was contacted by Minalien who had talked to metallica48423 and Vash and we came to the conclusion that it would be best for me to step down as administrator. I will be moving into a role as a global moderator to help out with maintaining some of the old topics on the forum, assisting in the coding boards, and possibly helping out with graphics cleanup. Well really it'll be what the group of people below decide.

So as my last act as administrator and with the go ahead from Vash and metallica48423, I am demoting myself and Xfixium to global moderator and promoting the following to administrator - Minalien, gm112, Starforsaken101, and MG-Zero. As for what that group will be doing, I will let them tell you what that all is, but please welcome them and give them your support as we all want what is best for ZFGC. Let's all work to make this place better!

Updates / Moderation Change
« on: March 08, 2012, 09:56:51 pm »
Because the level of negative user behavior and forum activity are both down, there is less need for a global moderation presence. Thus the structure of moderation is being changed. I have readded Martijn dh as a global moderator because of his plans to clean up the Graphics boards - he will be the global moderator at its lead. Niek is going to be the global moderator in charge of the Coding boards - as he has experience with doing Zelda coding and is active in moving topics. The rest of the global moderators are being converted into local moderators.

Here is how the the moderation will now look:
Quote
Niek //Coding
 MG-Zero
 Starforsaken101
 Theforeshadower

Martijn dh //Graphics
 King Tetiro
 MaJoRa

This is not final by any means -  those who feel and can show that they are willing to work outside of their Coding or Graphics board assignments may be considered to be global moderators in-full and will have your rank made to reflect that. In terms of handling Coding and Graphics, because we all as the community should be involved and the process should be open. That means when talking about how to improve those boards from now on that we'll discuss the changes there rather than in the Staff boards - if need be, Feedback may also be used.

If you have any questions about this, please post here or feel free to PM me.

Updates / Graphics Requests
« on: December 25, 2011, 01:32:33 am »
This has been in the works for a while but got delayed somewhat due to schoolwork. Anyway, a few months ago some global moderators and I went through the Graphics board. We found the request topics, sorted them into their own board, removed the topics that had no content or where the content no longer existed, and sorted some of the topics into categories (this last item wasn't completely finished). The point of all of this is to have it so Graphics can be seen as a place for graphics development whereas Graphics Requests would be for a more refined request system.

The continued sorting of the Zelda topics will progress onward later.

1. Requests, indicated by the [Request] tag, must:
  a. not be for too much at once.
  b. not be made frequently by the same user.
  c. not be ambiguous for what they are asking for.
2. If the request is met, then:
  a. the [Request] tag in the first post should be changed to [Solved].
  b. the topic should be locked by its creator or a global moderator.
  c. the topic should be moved to a subcategory if it is Zelda-related.

Feedback / Password Entry Errors
« on: December 17, 2011, 05:01:15 pm »
I was wondering if anyone has had any issues with logging on to the the forum. There has been a lot of incorrect password entry errors in the error log and I wasn't exactly sure if that was just because some people may have forgotten what their passwords were (they were logged-in forever on the old forum and did not have to actively have it memorized) or that there is a genuine forum bug.

Updates / Some Stuff
« on: December 16, 2011, 08:00:58 pm »
SMF 2.0.1 Upgrade

The forum has been upgraded to SMF 2.0.1. An old backup version of the forum can be found at www.zfgc.com/old/index.php. The old version of the forum will be phased out over time and is kept mainly as an access point to the old project/resource systems - the forum content is otherwise completely converted in for this version of SMF. If you are experiencing any errors, please post them in Feedback.

Minish/Vaati Themes

The Minish theme is an upgraded and simplified Kokiri theme that was the default of the SMF 1.1.15. The Vaati theme is a shifted and inverted version of the Minish theme for those who like dark themes. The Vaati theme will be modified in the future so that its CSS is more consistent, and some of the SMF default images will be lightly adapated to be more Zelda in theme (e.g. instead of the square block head, it'll be a Link head).

Future Site

The idea of having a site is being shifted into having an expanded forum system. Instead of there being a site homepage, the forum index may be converted into having project/resource updates in a box where the current News box is located. Additionally the project/resource system may be either adjusted and converted from Windy's system or rewritten integrated into the SMF forum code itself. Both ideas may take some time.

Advisor Rank

The Advisor rank as one that is publicly shown is being removed. Those who were advisors still have administrator permissions so the Advisor rank itself was really just a status one. Additinally, Windy and metallica48423 are now listed as Managers because of Windy's work on technical stuff and metallica48423 being the future host provider.

Member Post Ranks

I removed them all and just left a Member rank. There may future member post ranks in the future which might allow for things like being able to moderate your own topics if you have over a certain amount of posts. SmF 2.0 allows for new group based rank settings where membership may be requestable - future ranks may tend to be requestable for things like team projects.

Updates / Posting Projects
« on: December 13, 2011, 01:01:11 am »
I altered the site system so that creating a project page no longer creates a topic on the forum. I also edited the board permission settings so that new topics can be created in both Zelda Projects and Other Projects. The reason for doing this is so a potential future upgrade can happen to the SMF software here without worrying about if the project system will have issues with it. You are still able to post projects on either the forum or site though.
