I can't believe I didn't see Cowboy Bebop in anyone's list. Are you people mad? By the way, I know you said you wanted less than 50 episodes, but Fullmetal Alchemist is only 51 episodes, and you would be seriously missing out if you passed on it.

So yeah, I recommend:

Cowboy Bebop
Fullmetal Alchemist
Berserk
Gantz
Trigun

I don't believe I missed anything there. Also, if you haven't, watch Firefly. Not an anime, I know, but that certainly doesn't stop it from being the greatest television series ever. Plus, only 14 episodes long.

Eh firefly is very... outlaw starish... I'd much rather just watch Outlaw star :P

As for Cowboy Bebop... it's a little overrated :( I mean its okay, but blegh

I hate FMA >=^(

Trigun = instant win :D

Yay Trigun fans, though the manga has a better story, better art, and basically it's just better in every possible way, HA!

Last Exile is awesomeness.
Trinity Blood is pretty good too.

I agree here with pretty much everything. The FMA anime is butchered trash. The manga is amazing and unique, while the anime is forced Shounen !@#$%. I was a bit disappointed by Berserk, personally.

I only gave 5 stars to series I can go back and watch over and over again like you with Elfen Lied. 4 stars is equally good but they are more of a one time thing and 3 stars is check out the first couple episodes before you download the whole thing. 2, and 1 stars aren't even worth mentioning.

I know other people have mentioned some of these but yeah. That's all the animes I have watched that you haven't in the length that you wanted. My ratings as well and links to wiki pages.

Trigun <3 Best suggestion on here. But uh, Mahoromatic, you might wanna check that one out Aaron. It's kind of a comedy, action type-ish Anime, but meh go for it.
