Title: Gameboy Zelda Dark World Hybrid
Post by: Mamoruanime on April 18, 2010, 10:46:59 pm
I got bored, made a darkworld theme for GB Zelda's merging Tal Tal Mountains and the lttp darkworld theme. They fit well together D:

wowow 11 downloads already.

Anyway, new post simply because of the amount the original file was downloaded along with the fact that I've revised a few aspects to it. Also made a cleaner conversion from module to waveform format.

Sounds really nice Mammy and they really do go well together. I'm just not a big fan of the GB style of music.

Not too bad, could do with a bit more filling though. A bassline would be great, especially in the darkworld parts.
The upwards runs in the tal tal part at about 8 secs and onwards don't sound quite right, only because it's a major clashing with the minor darkworld theme. It's an easy fix, just lower the 2nd and 3rd notes of the run by a semitone.

I aint no muzakshun foo! >;o lol

Anyway; 4 channel maximum, and sacrificing the main darkworld beat makes it all sound stale; though I'm working on working around adding complimenting parts to the bassline to the darkworld tune channels. I've actually already started that a bit in a couple spots (compare the first upload and the second to see where :P). This is still a WIP (dunno why I didn't post that, I've said it to everyone I've shown XD). Still needs vibratos, and volume changes amongst other things.

EDIT: working on a variation, and possible revision for the main-

Sounds really GB-ish. These songs go ok together. Although it is still a lot of Tal Tal Heigths in there.

At first I didn't think the two songs matched, but in the "variant" version you changed a bit the harmony from the Dark Theme song so that they could match, now it's sounding good.

But there are still many points in the first half of the song where they aren't matching, I suggest you revise the harmony more meticulously there.

Apart from that, the GB-style work sounds quite good.

Yeah :P I'm still working on it quite heavily.

I'm thinking I might go with some elements of the variant, but stick with the original's base since I'm not completely satisfied with the variants direction. There are quite a few revisions in the variant that I want to keep though.

Here's an example of what I mean by the major runs, you still need to change them to get them to harmonize properly.

Yeah I know what you meant :P

It's not that I'm ignoring the suggestions, but rather I'm just working on seeing how well certain bars between the two songs fit together. I'm aware that there are harmony issues at this moment, but I've not even begun to start modifying the respective song's individual notes :P

I kinda really want to listen to this mix. Can't download anything that isn't a website on this machine. So I'm hitting "notify" to remind myself later. Such a thing requires typing a reply. Can't wait to hear this.

lol Well, the original upload isn't the greatest and the 2nd upload I'm not satisfied with at all :P Should wait until I get that happy medium back up. I havent touched this theme in about a week, but I'm working on readding the tal tal bass line.

Uploaded the version that I'm currently working on right now. As you can see, I've taken elements from the first one and the variant, and came up with a happy medium.

EDIT: removing the link for now; for some reason it didn't render to MP3 correctly :x fixing it now

EDIT2: For some reason, the vibratos are working fine in the source but not when compiled to MP3. I'll be removing them entirely soon.

Mamoru, I'm just thinking... maybe you should shift 3 or 4 tones on one of the melodies so that they could match... (maybe it's just my impression but) I guess the two melodies are in different scales.

Yeah I was actually thinking about shifting my 2nd and 3rd channels (the Dark World trumpets); but if I don't shift those then it'll be my first channel (the Tal Tal heights tune).

Biggest concern is that I'm multipurposing my 2nd and 3rd channels for certain effects; so most likely it'll end up being the first channel.

Did some modifications, came up with some things that I enjoy in this. I'm still a bit bummed that the vibratos aren't porting correctly with this when I convert to mp3 :\

What are you using to make this? FL? I could take a look at the project file if you are, see what's with the vibratos.
This version is sounding a lot better than the first. I think using the dark world as a base was the way to go.

I still think upping it to the original Tal Tal mountains tempo, or the dark world's original tempo would help it a tad. I threw the earlier .it's into MPT and upped it to 270 and <3'd :] <3 it regardless, but still!

I actually hadn't thought about upping the tempo beyond the Dark World theme's original tempo :p It never really crossed my mind D:...

I'll have to check it out at 270 like you said.

@ Darklight-

I'm using openMPT :P I've actually completely removed the vibratos though so even sending the sauce wouldn't really help any D: Once I get around to using one of the other tracker tools I have I'll readd the vibs

Sorry, I meant 275. I'm just sleepy :P

Checkin it out now- Sounds pretty sweet at that speed, though it almost feels too rushed to be used as a main overworld theme in the darkworld :P It'd sound sweet though if it were used in the same context as the Death Mountain Dark World theme (faster, darker, etc).

I must say tho; I'm glad I added the portamento to the last section of the Tal Tal Heights theme just before the switch to the Dark World break. It adds a bit of flare.

I'm actually pretty satisfied with the last one I uploaded... I just need those damned vibratos to work correctly.
