I was thinking, maybe have weekly (or every-other weekly) online multiplayer matches for a game or something?  Seeing as we ARE a gaming-related community, something like this would make sense.  Something like Phosphor (LINK) or Quake 3 Arena would be good... or you could all download this 86MB 7z Quake2 game folder I uploaded for personal use (I also let Sol download it >_>;) and go insane with its multiplayer and it's maps :P (no CD required for multiplayer), though that's probably not legal.

I thought of this after I just had a nice multiplayer match in Phosphor with Fernando.

It would be quite fun to do this and bring a community feel to it.. We could even not limit to to that.. we could do DS games, and other fun things. :)

Wouldn't be too hard to organise either.. Simply put time slots up on here, with certain games, and people just book into those slots.
A sub forum would be cool for this kind of thing.. then each match could get a topic, with someone commentating >=D, and pictures of the game (if possible).

A better idea would be open source games, free ones downloadable from the internet, then anyone can join in, oh and Multi-Platform.

Try;
Open Arena Don't know whether it is Multi-Platform

I don't see why free games couldn't be included in this.. along side commercial games such as Counter-Strike, Mario Kart etc

But then there's the part where someone needs to donate PC time to host the game server/s...  And since it's a game server, some old 700Mhz Pentium 3 PC with 128MB RAM isn't going to cut it :P

Host what servers? Things like CS, it's easy enough to find empty public servers.

I was mainly thinking of Phosphor, which isn't very deep, but works on all platforms with shockwave.

It's good for something relatively simple.

nono, I don't mean that as the only game, I'm just saying of all the games, Phosphor would be good as a "beginner" game.

Limey, the problem is that not everyone is gonna have those games for 2 reasons, they cost money and aren't PC (except for shadowrun).

We should try to keep this exclusive to PC games since everyone here is 99.99% of the time accessing ZFGC through a PC, so this will allow as many people as possible.

But a little exclusivity is good too... people who have Counterstrike would much rather play that than some little freebie game. Right?

well, CS at least IS PC based, which should be the bare minimum I think.  Console games probably wouldn't work as well.  I was just saying that there should still be free games though.

Better Idea would be to make a list of games that we can play and what not.

(btw just played Open Arena it is all platforms and <3 it)

Hmm... I suggest Sapphire Tears. It's a great online multiplayer shooter where you build your own bases each game and you could make clans. It's small, but great, and light to download. Sorry for sounding like I'm advertising, but I'm not.
