HOLY CRAP at this SVG image

Ever since I downloaded Firefox 3 I've been playing with its much faster SVG rendering (compared to Firefox 2) along with the zoom function.  Now before SVGs took several seconds to load and made things considerably slow.  Firefox 3 changed all that and they were suddenly usable in real-time!

Well today, I was looking for some anime-styled things that happened to be in SVG format.  I really couldn't find anything, until I eventually stumbled upon an SVG image on the Wikipedia page for Anime (go figure, I was just there last week and didn't even realize the image was there)

Now, I was amazed at the quality of the image for being an svg.  That high quality comes with a price though...

Link to SVG image: http://static.wikipedia.org/new/wikipedia/en/images/shared/1/14/Mahuri.svg
Image info and PNG preview: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Mahuri.svg

Needless to say, that thing MURDERED my CPU more than Crysis ever would.  I even had the brilliant idea to zoom in 200%.  That in itself took like 20 seconds to re-render, but then I attemped to scroll down.  HO BOY, that took pretty much an entire minute to complete the action!

My CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2100+ OC'd to 1.95 GHz

Anyone out there daring enough to put their CPU to the test?  The image looks innocent enough... but I tell you, that innocence IS A LIE.

It loaded, displayed fine on my laptop, in High Performance mode, but did chug a little and mess up the music I was playing. !@#$%, I hate to think what would've happened on Power Saver mode. o.O

But did you zoom in 200% and try to scroll? Hmm?

that only happens because firefox has an autoblur effect when you zoom images..

um... it's an SVG AKA Scalable Vector Image.  When you zoom in on an SVG, it's like increasing the resolution of a 3D polygon. (except this polygon is 2D :P)  All detail and sharpness is preserved unlike standard raster-based images (PNG, JPG, etc)

...seriously?  I could never get SVGs to render at a decent speed in Firefox 2.

Yeah, it does seem pretty innocent. I've got a decent machine, loading didn't take too long, but scrolling did give a hiccup. Nice though.

Wasn't so bad. Loading took a second or two, as did scrolling at 200%
