It'd be pretty depressing not being able to pass on my own genes.

However, just as everyone else has stated before me, adoption would be second down the line if I couldn't have my own.

After all, being the biological father of a person doesn't matter much besides passing on your DNA. They grow and develop however you educate them so ultimately, it'd be the same experience.

I'm not sure I'd be okay with adopting. It may sound kind of douchy, but I'm not sure I'd be able to care for the child in the same way. I mean, legally, it would be my child, but that's it. Also, despite what Juan said, a large portion of the kind of person you are is determined at birth. I used to think that wasn't the case, but being a psychology student has led me to discover that it's true. This fact would make it very hard for me to adopt. I'd probably still consider it, though. Having my own kids just not something I think I'd like. Often I can be...snappish around children. I went down town once (dragged down) with my Mum, Sister, and two Cousins (long story) and ended up getting really annoyed at my Sister and Cousins (all of whom are below 10) just for doing things that people their age do whilst out with their friends, because I found it really annoying. Kids, they annoy me.

And Shefali: I think he's saying he'd rather know the background the kid came from, aka. his own. Adopted children can be...troubled.

And while I can take care of kids pretty well, I find myself annoyed very quickly with them (or perhaps that's just my family, 'cause they are really annoying). So in the end, I couldn't are less if I had the ability to procreate or not (and for passing on my genes, well I seriously have no desire to do so). Logged
