Title: Promo Avy and Sig and an idea of link
Post by: Bludleef on March 30, 2011, 07:00:35 pm
OK since people obviously don't understand the term placeholder I will just remove the avy and sig until I finish the art I am working on based off of some of Dayu's design, but not all of it.

This art done by Dayu.  I kind of like the look of link. May be a good starting point for our link's green tunic form.

And now my art from the concept in the style of official MC art.

I could throw some art stuff together when I come home from school. Got some ideas  :)

Overall, I like the design that Dayu made.

It's a little off topic , perhaps we should make the tunic a little more worn for wear at the beginning of the game? Then as some point in the game a clothes maker fixes the tunic? Just food for thought.

I think the design for Link's tunic is good

Something I've always wondered stylistically, should he really wear WHITE tights? Aren't there any colors more functional for a warrior traveling across the land to wear...

Dayus green tunic looks awesome though, the layers of cloth over his shoulders are very fitting.

I think it may have something to do with Link growing up in OoT.
As a child, he was more care-free so he had no tights/leggins/etc.  He just had a tunic with no under clothes.  I guess that Nintendo wanted to present him more as an adult by adding the gauntlets and under cloathing as most adults across most ages in history wear under cloathing.

White is just a neutral color so it is easy on the eyes from a graphics standpoint.

Just my guess.

In the avatar, the bread looks more like a beard. Just saying.

Just food for thought here. Assuming Link is still a thief in the scummy part of Hyrule Town, perhaps in the actual game we should start him off with having a bit of stubble? Would make it a little more realistic (Bit ironic as it's a zelda game)

And it does kinda look like a beard

Promo art usually makes more sense if it contains images directly taken from gameplay or is done in the art-style corresponding to the game its sprites were based off of - Minish Cap game sprites -> Minish Cap style art.

I totally thought that as well, until I saw the bigger picture.

Not a bad idea imo. If it works with whatever sprite size and graphical style used for Link, I think it might be a good idea to give him a bit of that sexy hero stubble, at least for some of the beginning. I sort of glanced over the story, but I'm pretty sure there's a point in there where he could get a shave and be clean shaven from then on. Meh, whatever, doesn't matter too much I guess. Anyway, besides the bread looking like a beard in the avy, I think the art is pretty good, especially for Link.

I had a good idea? Wow that's new lol

What do people think of my torn tunic idea? (Gonna risk having 2/2 good ideas lol)
Quick question, how are we doing Link and Zelda's first meeting?

Pretty sure step 1 should not be promote the game with stolen art. Even if you're crediting him, he's asked people not to use it.

Temporary or not, you're still not permitted to use it "period", "end of story", etc per the creator of the piece.

Don't use google to find images you plan on using. Even google says that.

*sighs*

I feel tension, and the project hasn't even started.

Mistakes happen.

On the subject of Link having beard/stubble: What age will he be in the game? His age will matter both design-wise and how NPC will treat him, so... Anything decided? (Btw, yes I'm sticking my swedish nose in this project, despite not holding a position. I'm just so bored atm!)

Well right now in the story he is an orphan, but I don't think an exact age has been discussed, but usually when you think orphan you think young.  So dunno how a beard/stubble would work.

Actually that doesn't look too bad. What would he look like with a green tunic?

Working on that.  Mostly the same, but less patches and tatters a few changes other than that, but not much.  I am debating the cap though.

Actually I would suggest less patches but MORE tatters.

Same here. I'm wondering though, what are those brown lines that sort of look like tassels? They look a little odd to me. And I'm not a fan of the belt buckle style. Besides those things, I really like it a lot. Head design is great, and body dimensions and whatnot are good too. Nice artwork there Bludleef.

LOL yeah they were supposed to be a tarnished gold border that ran along the outside of the scarf, but it didn't turn out quite right.

Ah, I see it now. It would've really helped if you had made the scarf a different color. I actually like the idea of him having a scarf though. My advice is just to make it a different color from his main clothes and get rid of patches on the scarf and stick with tatters only. It would seem more natural that way imo.

Anyone?

I really really like this. Like, a lot. It gives Link a harsher look and I think it's very appropriate for the game we're making here. I would suggest maybe putting a few tatters in the shirt, but that's it. It's great!

EDIT: never mind, I see tatters. /noobs
