Sonic Dash Open-Source WIP
« on: July 23, 2006, 06:17:29 am »
This project is now a collaboration between Midiman, Damizean, and me!

Features:
Original Gameplay Style
Automatic Updating (WIP)
Custom HUD/Menus
Paralax Background Engine
Physics accurate to sonic (thanks to the Damizean and The Taxman for value calculations)
Multiplayer (possibly online)
Original/Heavily Edited Sprites
Original Backgrounds
Features Music from Jumping Flash! 1 & 2 as well as some korean pop music

keep in mind that this is a WIP of the engine, and all level tiles/bgs are placeholders.

also due to my work schedule, i can now update this on an almost daily basis. just check this post for information on whats been added. ill also try to bump this topic when i update (if it's fine with the moderators).

screenies (as of 7/11/06)

Whereas it's a horribly good and intricate engine, it might be a tad too complex for early programmers. Perhaps include a handy overview file in which all the scripts are exlained?

Still, fantastic work. Very fluent, retains Sonic feel, and neat features.

im going to start adding explainations in the form of comments to code, as well as some guidelines for TGF or MMF users who want to use this engine.

i first started the project since around early '04, and now i have others willing to collaborate with me, because this is like a community thing.

EDIT: Updated:

whoa!
the physics and water effects are amazing!
nice one :D
i may use this to try to make a kinda prey/portal game :P

but the 1st spring underwater in the exe sometimes has the wrong depth i guess as i cant see it, but other times i can and also with the enemies underwater, it seems like i could jump over them (just), but i still hit the them (water effects on 4)

Gather a demo together and release it on z3 Al. I don't know if I'll be about to get my demo out in time, so you have to be a backup <_<

hehe, i just made some prey like thing where the gravity and view angle always equals the angle you're at, so you can walk up walls at any speed and when you jump, its as if that wall you're on is the floor

sure, anyone can use it, just make sure you give credit, and but beware, it is almost always being updated.

i thought Z3 registrations were closed, i was intending on entering Z3, as well as SAGE.

actually, that was already made, but it was disabled because of compatibility and accuracy issues.

This engine is pretty much awesome.

The gravity leads to some interesting things that can be done
