Hey dudes, first poll I've made in ages! Im considering cutscenes for my indie games and I have a choice. There's 3 possible ways to go.

If you guys can vote it'll be appreciated. Also, this is in terms of an RPG

EDIT: Damnit. Part of the topic is gone. That's strange. I'll rewrite it. Gimme 5 mins

Comic Strip Style - This is by far the easiest method of cutscene to make! It's pretty much each part of the cutscene is a panel in a comic strip. However this can also be a let down as most of them are never animated. However if you have an amazing group of artists this can be one of the best options.

In Game Scenes - Almost every rpg and adventure game uses this type of cutscene to my knowledge. The In Game Scene is when rather than being a Comic Strip or a Movie Time, the game is acted out in the same graphics as the gameplay itself. Sorry I can't be more explanitory with this.

Movie Time! - Great examples of this are Kingdom Heart's Intro and Ending scenes. These scenes involve smooth flowing animation in graphics similar to the Comic Strip Style (Or very detailed graphics) and voice acting. Now this is by far one of the better scenes in graphical terms, but it will need to be done right.

I chose other. I personally love it when a game has "natural" cutscenes. What I mean by this is when the game doesn't pause, or force you to watch, you still have control over your character. It really keeps the immersion going.

Half-Life does this well.

As soon as I read this, every PS1 and PS2 Metal Gear Solid boss fight bombarded my brain.
Best immersion in a boss fight I can remember.  Simple dialogue that kept the battle epic.

Ocelot ~ Moving won't help you.  -  I love to reload during a battle. There's nothing like sliding a long silver bullet, into a well greased chamber.

The you had Psycho Mantis talking about reading your mind during the fight.
Grey Fox..."More....more!"

Oblivion kinda had what you are talking about as well, seems like that is how I remember it, though there were times you cannot move your character.

The kind of "cutscene" I like is no cutscene at all. I prefer just having fast scrolling text so you can learn what the game is telling you, but you don't have to watch boring crap about legends of hyrule or some else useless like that

Not all games with cut-scenes are crap  :P,  I really like cut-scenes but after-wards the text can be added as well.
