Zelda Projects / Re: [W.I.P.] TLoZ: New Beginnings ver. 1.4
« on: April 01, 2016, 05:06:06 pm »
It's end of march and I am impatient :P

It will be here by the end of today, I am at work still. ;)
But for the heads up if anyone doesn't know 1.5 is major updates from previous version, mainly from what I observed from others playing the game I was able to make some fixes found by the Youtubers who played the game. Was kinda hard to determine some issues due to little feedback but the things found out in dungeon 1 had been fixed (For the random guy who said hero mode Blind was overpowered, it isn't that hard if you move fast and be watchful of a lurking shadow xD).
The second dungeon will be will be playable for test/feedback purpose since the overall story of the dungeon had changed.

Also if you were stuck on dungeon 1, someone did a speed run completeing the dungeon 100%, finding Ralts and doing Hero Mode: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZ-5LYqqbro

What do you guys think? What should be added that isn't in the video?

Looking good so far XD
Have you added NPCs yet? You can do something where the player can do a quick event sort of thing when adding an NPC with it's own text, which can be edited. Not sure if you are familiar with Seiken Densetsu 3 any of the mana series games, but something similar to that, the innkeeper from those games for example. If the player wants the NPC to say something else, they can edit the textbox message for the already added NPC on the Legend Maker Map. For example: randomly added NPC has it's own test saying "Hello, nice day isn't it?" The player can click the npc again and the textbox can open up from there you can edited it, having the NPC say this time "I really hope it rains today." Something like that.

This can go hand in hand with making main/side-quests things too. Giving the player more options with the textbox edit to add some sort of objective and or quest that involves Terminating X amount/certain enemies, collecting Y amount of specific items or speaking to this NPC, etc.

I'm just throwing ideas out of the blue lol but you can probably mold it into something unique. :D

Welcome to ZFGC.
As for what you are looking for, I can't say I've ever seen one made in TMC style, probably there is but it is buried somewhere in graphics section. If it must come to it, you might have to re-tile this map in TMC style and or find someone who can do it for you.
I'll try to look, but I can't guarantee you that I would find anything, but it is worth a shot tho.

Wow, that looks awesome! :o
Well, the plan was to make this open source from the beginning so that anyone can contribute. Ideally I won't be working alone.
Thanks! Seems like the forums are a lot less active though...

Yeah lol. KOT community project, Horn of Balance and my project is still active and doing well with progress, I think there is a few other Zelda and non-Zelda projects active as well.

With what you have currently you can make a short Zelda game of your own.

Also welcome back, dunno how long you've been out for XD

Well you have a point there :) I'll clean up the front post tommorow. Thanks!

You have a long way to go if you are going to restart. Are you working on this by yourself? It isn't easy working on a project alone XD There's also another OOT2D project, don't know if you are aware of it.

Anyway, welcome back

Entertainment / Nintendo Strikes yet again!
« on: November 16, 2015, 08:58:08 pm »
Well it happen again, Dream Mix, the creator of Zelda Maker got a C&D from Nintendo. This is what probably happened to oot2d as well. :-\
Makes me wonder why Nintendo has so much bottled up anger for fan games being made :S.
But for me, I think the more publicity a game gets when it's not completed yet, the higher the chance Nintendo will creep out the cave and starts taking things down. There shows showing our creativity.

But Dream Mix has changed up the engine to Legend Maker, so not all hope is lost, something very good will come of it.

Its been over a year since my last visit, but life has been very busy for me. Still is actually, but I thought I'd say hi. Made a small change to the bombs, might fix the problems people had, though not sure as I never had the bug myself so its hard to test it.

To exit the game one can use esc in the start screen of the game

to resize you can use keys 1 2 3 or 1 2 3 on the keypad

Welcome back. I'm sort of in the same boat too, but I at times get some good amount of free time to work on my game, I just never post bring it up on discussion board.

But good to see another great project back, other than the usual lttp/mc designs lol :D

This is obviously because of the fighter ballot (people voting to get their favourite character in smash 4), but such things, while may have been fantasies for many people, were simple just that. Nothing more than a silly fantasy, and we all knew that.

Nintendo is known for having a lack of, or just weird common sense, and they tend to seemingly ignore the obvious from screaming fans (probably because of the differences in a screaming fan only thinking about their current selves vs a company that has survived over a century, thinking well into the future), but every now and then, they just go and completely destroy such "common senses" (or more like decided facts - that such a thing is just far too impossible) like this.
I think it's brilliant!

Of course when watching the Nintendo direct and it ended, only to show a black starry like screen with music quite similar to FF7's, my mind was just thinking it must just be a coincidence that it's similar. Of course it wasn't just similar, it WAS the FF7 music, but it was just too far-fetched to believe until it was spelled out on the screen.
Saying that, this is a great reaction: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CK5gdf5cMPM The way his eyes light up as soon as he recognises the music haha

Yep, these reactions have massive hype behind it, literally :D

When I saw that I thought it was like those project M mods, then I clicked on it and went :O.
This pretty much paves the way for either Sora, Sephiroth or any other FF character to show up in the near future.
But man, I have high hopes for Terra Branford, but she is soooo underrated and possibly forgotten:C. In my book, FF3/6 is close to FF7, it's the Majora's Mask to FF7's OOT.

Best thing of all, Link and Cloud can finally fight/team up with each other after all this time.

What was a bigger show to me is that they made Link into Linkle

Welcome and nice work man, I ran into your video recently ;)

74
I'm trying to narrow down a few pages I have currently, I'm not sure if just remove everything on a single page will delete what I'm trying to get rid of or not, in a way I'm simplifying everything I've edited/added in the past.

Sorry for the random out of the blue question.

75
I think you missed this one lol XD

Here is the lifestream made if anybody missed it (check at around 8:00):
http://www.hitbox.tv/video/652938

Some of the comments are a little harshly worded, but don't let that bother you. The guy is always like that.

Yeah, he played my demo too, but the whole dungeon part was grayed out, so it was hard for me to determine, what to fix and what to correct. The only thing I was told about was the dungeon was a bit dark, so I changed that.

What I noticed is, well it's obvious, there is more Mario games than there other games, even Zelda combined lol. It use to be even out before, but I guess Mario is just bigger and easier to make a game out of.
But with criticism and feedback, there is always a window open to go back, remove or modify some items.

Yea I didn't put much of an indication for the demo.

So it looks like the freeze glitch happens when you pick pocket the moment they turn around. I'm gonna see if I can reproduce this to a science.

Nice, that old man was suspect when he got me lol XD

It sure does XD, reminds me of Xfixum's remake of LA.

Dungeon making isn't easy either lol. I remade 2 dungeons I've created in the past for it was way too easy and way to short, right now my first dungeon takes 15-20 minutes to complete it, even if you speed past it without accidentally triggering Hero Mode, which I did in my recent videos and got owned when I purposely enabled hero mode in a boss fight.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-V_uHQY3_M
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYLCLvbHT_g

But in the end, you HAVE to play through what you made like a hundred times just to see what is missed or needs to be fixed, just like I have when I remade this dungeon, this was before. Martijn dh posted a while back on what needs to be done to make a good dungeon, that's why the 3 I already have are being re-worked and it takes time to make it how you want it, adding things in their to challenge the player.
What I do differently is add passive/primary choice for the player to do via taking action in the overworld or in the dungeon. The first dungeon has a passive quest to save a deku solider or just ignoring him, later on in the game it will cost you something depending on the end result.

Plus it is good idea to brainstorm, get your ideas on a piece of paper or just use ms paint to make maps, doors, etc.
Also puzzles, thinking of a few is another thing as well.

I don't mind testing. Also you want us just to play it all the way through and see if glitches and ore bugs exist in the game as well?
