Title: [SOLVED] Gameboy Hookshot
Post by: Jeod on April 03, 2009, 02:11:31 am
TSR, Shyguy Kingdom, Google...none of them turned up any results. I can't find the gameboy hookshot animations. And unfortunately my ROM ripping software isn't working properly.

It's here (http://www.spriters-resource.com/gameboy/lozla/sheet/9450), actually. Look closely.

Then I must be oblivious, because searching "hookshot" doesn't turn anything up.

Did you click the link? http://www.spriters-resource.com/gameboy/lozla/sheet/9450 (http://www.spriters-resource.com/gameboy/lozla/sheet/9450). Just above the "Piece of Heart partials", next to the Ocarina.

Hyperlinks aren't obvious in the default theme, 'cause the text is the same colour.  That's why I prefer to type out my links like this: [link (http://www.spriters-resource.com/gameboy/lozla/sheet/9450)]

Stupid text color... This'll always work for me, then.

Ah yeah, the hyperlinks aren't too obvious. And it isn't often when I drag my mouse over text on purpose.

...Did you find the sprites, at least?

Nope...that's the hookshot ICON, not the ANIMATION. The animation part is when Link uses it.

The usage sprites are right next to the icon.  That bulky diamondish thing is the hook, and the green dot is the chain.

As an add-on, as Shefali beat me in seconds on the reply, it doesn't really animate, it just flies out of Link. It looks nothing like the icon, which always bothered me.

AH! Thank you for pointing that out!

*sigh* 'Kay then, now that we understand each other...

Yes that's a very poor way that Nintendo made that animation. Recycling... again...

Yes, I was unaware that there was not a separate animation for Link using the hookshot. Seems he just used the swinging sword animation, minus the sword.

That pose gets used a lot.

Sword, Magic Rod, Cane of Somaria, Slingshot, Seed Shooter, Hookshot, Switch Hook, Rod of Seasons, etc.

Basically anything he swings or throws then. Okay, I can manage it. Thanks!

P.S. Does anyone know the maximum chain length for the hookshot?

In Pixels? End of the screen, whatever that was.

Thought it was half the screen. But end of the screen sounds more accurate.

For the original Hookshot (the one in the GB game), it was the length of the "visible" screen.
In OoA, the Switch Hook 1 was about 5 tiles or so.
The Long Hook (Lv. 2) was the length of the visible screen.

Yeah, I think that was it.
