Thanks.  Yeah I am really happy with how the art turned out.  It has been a long road getting it this far, but a good experience for sure.  I'll look forward to hearing your thoughts on it then.    :)

The game itself runs pretty smoothly from my experience.  The lag I believe is due to the image capture.  Of course if you are experiencing lag when playing that is a different story.

Other Projects / AeroGames Presents: Tank Tactics [DEMO]
« on: March 08, 2015, 11:46:41 pm »

Hi guys.  I have been a member here for a long time and have made many games that some of you may remember such as Smash Bros ZFGC.  Over the years you have heard me mention my new game Tank Tactics that I have been working on.  It has been a really long road considering I am working full time and am only programming on the side (as the sole programmer for the game), but we have now released a demo in a greenlight campaign for Steam.  I would really appreciate it if you would take a minute to look at it on steam and up vote it and perhaps pass the demo around.  Thanks!   You guys have been a great resource for questions and answers over the years so thanks again!   XD

About Tank Tactics
Tank Tactics is designed to be a fast paced, arcade style shooter requiring high levels of dexterity, critical thinking, and a love of blowing the smithereens out of everything!  It features multiple play modes, difficulty settings, and interesting game elements like gravity wells and teleports.  And of course...  The ability to combine any two weapons you find into bigger badder enemy splattering rounds of ammunition!  Tank Tactics also contains both elements of high density action and mind bending puzzles.

Unlike other tank games you might have played the AI, on the more difficult play settings, can be extremely challenging as the enemy CPU will actively look for ways to blow the tracks off of your tank by calculating bullet trajectories around corners and actively dodging and shooting down bullets you fire at them.  You must out think and outplay the enemy in order to take the victory!  Do you have what it takes to save this future syfy appocolyptic world from the ravages of these tank tactical overlords?

System Requirements:
* Decent Windows PC running Windows 7 or newer:  Specs are in the process of being determined so please feel free to post your specs and game play experience here!
*We will be releasing Tank Tactics on multiple platforms, but since we are currently working to get the game on steam we are focusing on our PC build

I would love to hear about your experience playing the Tank Tactics demo so please feel free to comment and share your thoughts!

Okay.  Little Update.  I had two very generous individuals offer to make a logo for me which both turned out very well.  I am sad that I cannot choose both.   :(  After showing them both to the guys I am working with we ended up deciding to stick to the design that was more along the lines of the original design that Sinkin made years back.  I attached an image of the updated design to this post.  I spent the last two days figuring out how I wanted to animate the logo screen, and it has turned out quite nicely.  Thank you Sinkin for both your original design and the new one.  I really liked it and I was torn between them both.  Obviously since the new design is based on your original work I will make sure that it is credited.  Thanks again for all your help!

Hey that is really slick!  Thanks! that turned out really well!  The higher resolution version would be great, and on a transparent background would help to.  At full res it should be confortably displayable on a 2048X1536 canvas.  You rock man!

Hey Sinkin.  A friend of mine has also offered to take a stab at making the logo.  If you are still making one I would love to have both options to present to my team as I know that you do great work.  I would like to credit you though regardless of what is used for your original inspiration of the design of the logo.  If you wouldn't mind PMing me the name you would like to be credited to, I will make sure it is taken care of.  Thanks a million man.  I really appreciate it!

Yes actually.  I am still working on the same project though.  I haven't posted a whole lot about it in quite a while because I could tell that it was going to take much longer than I first expected and I didn't want it to start to feel like vaporware.  This is partly because I am working full time to stay alive while trying to finish it on the side and I am the only programmer on the team. but I have been working consistently on the project for the last 2 1/2 years or so.

Much has changed though.  For instance I am not working with Gamious any longer.  They decided to back out which was, in the end, mostly a good thing because the people I was working with the closest decided to stay on and see it through to the end.  So we are taking more of an indie approach now.  The biggest news though is that we are finally at a point where we are ready to release a demo.  It has been a very long time in coming, but short of a few finishing touches like a good logo to show off at the start, it is ready to go so I plan to be posting here as soon as it is actually ready.  I have been wanting to show it off for a long time now so I am quite excited for the prospect.  All I can do is hope it is received well when the time comes.   XD

So years ago SinkinDevil made me this awesome logo that I could use for my games.  I really like how it looks, but now that I am trying to make more professional games it might be nice to have in a higher resolution version with perhaps a little more detail.  I have yet to actually release my first game so I have no moneys, but I would love to put someones name in my list of special thanks if there was somebody who would be interested in helping me out.

Here is the original (Credit to SinkinDevil)

I really like the color scheme and overall look of this.  So sticking close to this basic idea and color scheme is good

I would perhaps like to see deeper reds and gold and perhaps a wider gradiant.  Perhaps slightly shiny, but also old looking, and perhaps metallic.  My plan is to have the words fall in from the top of the screen and stop at the middle of the screen with a thud like they are pretty heavy, but I will animate all that myself.  I just need the basic image.

I am trying to develop with retina resolution with a screen that is 2048x1536.  The Logo should fit nicely in the center of such a screen.

Anyhow.  I would be very thankful if someone felt so inclined as to help me out.  If you have any questions or would like further clarification, please ask.

edit:  Not sure if SinkinDevil is active around here anymore or not, but if you are.  Thanks.

I am guessing about 490.  We hit the 160 mark pretty early on in the month, but I don't think it stayed at quite that rate all month long.  Yes.  It must be 490 XD

So what is the grand total for the month?  Wait don't tell me.  Maybe we should run a poll and see who can guess the closest?

Wow!  I am really impressed by this!  Great job!  There are little things here and there that I could try to pick at if I were to be nit picky,  But it is overall very cool!  Way better than I could hope to do.  Glad to see that progress is being made.  Kudos to you!

On a side note.  That background music is pretty cool too!  Somehow it makes me think of Zeal in Chrono Trigger crossed with ALTTP.  I like it!

Also, Aero, did you change the thread title to heck? That's hilarious xD

Ha ha!  No, unfortunately I can't claim credit for that, but now I wish I could!  That is funny!

Cool!  One question though.  Since the pendants are changed to the triforce pieces...  What do you get at the end of the game?

Thing is my dad works at Nintendo and he told me they'd never make a Zelda the hedgehog for tv again

That would seem to be quite a reputable source.  Probably for the better.  It would be very difficult to make it actually work out in the end.  Especially because the fans of the series would undoubtedly pick it to pieces.

Maybe not.  It does seem more legit than that april fools vid IGN ran a couple years back.  Seem to be more sources indicating it is at least in discussion at this point.

I think I understand why you hate the Lens of Truth in this game, but out of curiosity, I was wondering if you actually had an alternative suggestion. How would you implement the Lens of Truth?

One thing I did in my old zelda fan game was to make the viewing lens smaller.  I used surfaces to uncover secrets as you scanned the room with the lens rather than making everything just appear when you hit the button.  It made it feel more authentic.  At least to me.  Admittedly this method is more difficult to implement though, but the result left me feeling more like I was searching through a lens.

Kinda cool!

Ha ha!  Way to go FF6 for not being able to be summed up in 60 seconds!  Always thought it had the most intricate and involved story.  Though be be fair I haven't played any FF past 7.
