Title: Metroid Fusion
Post by: Kyubi on March 23, 2008, 04:13:04 am
It's 4:10 am, I just completed it. No game has ever done this to me before, kept me up so late. Having played all 3 Primes and now I've completed this. I now love Metroid more than Mario, and it's on a par with Zelda at least. I can only hope Nintendo's big E3 announcement is Metroid Dread!

Ah, I remember buying Fusion for the first time. I loved it then, and I still love it.

I still haven't finished Fusion, I'm hopelessly stuck :(
I really like what I have played though
I agree that Metroid is one of the greatest series of games.

I don't know if its as great as Zelda, but Metroid is underrated. I definetly can't wait for the next Metroid game.

have you ever played super metroid?
as good as fusion is, super metroid is better in every way

And that's where I disagree. Super Metroid was good, but I really didn't like the movement. I fell off of platforms a lot because Samus always seemed to slide.

I never really got into Super Metroid. I beat the original, and Zero Mission (Plus all the Prime titles), but I just couldn't get into Super Metroid. Maybe thats just because I didn't grow up with the SNES or something.

I grew up with the SNES. In fact, it didn't exist when I was born, although it was the console that I first started playing. So yeah, I'm an SNES child.

I think Fusion is on par with Super Metroid, if not better. Fusion is, to me, the pinnacle of the Metroid saga.

*agrees with Taka*

Actually Super Metroid and Metroid Zero Mission have to be my favorites :P Fusion had a watered down control system compared to the both of them

but yeah, IMO the 2d metroid series is one of the best ones out there

I played through Fusion twice. I liked it. I love the Metroid series, especially Prime 1 and, to a lesser extent, Prime 2.

I'm not much of a Metroid Fan, it's one of my least liked Nintendo series.

I definitely love fusion, but it's controls have nowhere near the depth and elegance of super metroid, and zero mission to a lesser extent.

I find it rather embarrassing to admit that fusion is the first metroid I ever played, mainly because I thought it was !@#$% amazing and it had to be the best in the series, but after playing super metroid probably 50 times now, SM is definitely the best in the series.
You just can't beat the atmosphere, structure and gameplay depth, and this is gonna sound cocky, but from my own experience, you just don't know what you're talking about until you experience super metroid 100%

just the little touches like being able to launch yourself off enemies, even the glitches in super metroid are fuckin awesome

Fusion birthed my love for Metroid, and remains the best of them all.

Fusion and the other 2d Metroid games in general are awesome.  I don't really like the 3d ones, but I love the 2d ones.  The first time I played Fusion I was spending the night at a friends house and the friend let me play it, he got kind of annoyed since I paid more attention to it than him.  ^_^;

I agree. It's kind of upsetting.

I agree with Taka 100%.
Super Metroid is an amazing game. Definitely one of the best in the series, if not one of the greatest games ever.
And it became better when the Justin Bailey heck was made :).

Fusion was my first Metroid, and I love it so. Great sense of drama, great graphics, great sound, great action/puzzle/adventure gameplay. Great game.

Though I love all Metroids, I have to say playing Super Metroid after playing the Metroid Prime games feels sort of like playing A Link to the Past after playing Ocarina, Majora and so on. Not to say Super Metroid is a bad game, it's definitely an awesome piece of Metroid (I'd have to say it's better than ALttP) but considering Metroid Prime is sort of a 3D, more impressive version of Super Metroid, you have to appreciate it differently.

All Metroid games are great though. Except Hunters.

A little late? Anyway, Metroid Fusion gets the prize for being the only game to ever scare me.

Scared by a sprite-based game, haha... Oh, I suppose it can happen.

But seriously, play BioShock right now.

Or Doom 3. So I hear.

I was never scared in Metroid Fusion. Maybe cautious, and a bit frantic during that one time you have to get past SA-X and run away, but that's it really.

I need Bioshock, too.

Bioshock gave me the same feeling of fear for a brief moment at the beginning, and the crazy hook lady is trying to break into your little pod and disembowel you, but it was short. Seriously, those moments when you're holding your breath and listening to SA-X's footsteps coming closer, waiting for the right moment to run knowing full well that she could decimate you had me crapping myself.

I never feared dying in that game, so long as I was starting from a nearby save point, which I pretty much always was. So I'd just dive in and try it until I got it right.

Fusion is actually the only Metroid game I've ever completed.  Came close in Super Metroid I think, but I'm fairly certain I lost that save file by now.

I agree. While Fusion restricted your freedom by quite a bit, it still felt Metroid.  That, plus awesome music, great graphics and the bosses.

AND the plot-twist! They secretly bred Metroids!? Who would've known! But yeah. I really like Fusion.
Samus talking was nice too. It's cool to hear her thoughts about stuff, more of that please.

Super Metroid is a bit overplayed for me. And it feels unpolished in some aspects, but a great game nonetheless.

They need to get the Fusion team back together to make Dread on the DS, dammit.

I started playing my collection of Metroid games(Super Metroid, Zero Mission, and Fusion) after reading the speedrun topic, and I must say that Fusion is the easiest.  I'm not very good at it, but I think I'll play through Super Metroid.

Not in terms of gameplay. I mean, it set the standard for every future Metroid and raised the bar alot.
What I mean are the controls. Fusion/Zero both have smoother controls.  All though wall jumping sucks in Fusion.

Maybe dated would be a better word than unpolished.

YOU CANT TAKE MY FUSION LOVE AWAY FROM ME >:o
