That's more in style, but I like the original better. Pretty it just needs an inside.

You wouldn't have to do that. The same amount of magic would just take up more space. For example, if the max MP is 100 and the length of the bar is 200, 1 MP would take up 2 pixels.

I added a little shadow-like border to the hearts and magic meter, and I think it looks a lot better.  Only downside is that the upgraded magic meter doesn't line-up with the hearts anymore.
You could make the magic meter longer.

I would use a lighter wood. I might also make the edges of the sides of the boat more obvious. It's not that you can't tell where they are, but I think they should be more defined.

I started a game of ALTTP today on VBA and was able to get far enough to rip the cukeman sprites. Yay! The electric animation repeats itself once (it lasts 8 frames). I'm pretty sure that if the room speed is 30, the animation speed would be 0.25.

47
I also found a gray cukeman sprite. They might come in different colors. I'll continue to search for animated ones.

48
When it's hit, it switches between blue and red. It seems that the mouth is blue if the body is red and vice versa. I found a still sprite of a cukeman that you can take the eyes and mouth from. Also, the cukeman and buzz bob sprites aren't exactly the same.

The view in PH and ST was from a higher angle. If you made this game's view from the same angle, the trees, rocks, etc. might look better.

I added Zelda to it. I tried to make her look more a part of it. The background is more like a painting and Zelda is a 3D render. I also gave her a shadow.

He knows how to use an image. He's trying to code the creation of an image from text using a sprite font. He doesn't want preexisting images.

I know of a website that successfully accomplished this in pure HTML and javascript. They didn't make a single image for each body of text, but  did use an image as a font. The website was called llamafont.com, but it appears their website is down whether it is temporary or permanent. They actually had all of the letters in one image and somehow drew parts of the image as letters without using a large amount of time to load the page. You could even copy the text and paste it somewhere else as text. The entire purpose of this website was to "say it in llama" meaning use a font that used llamas in various positions to create letters.

EDIT: I found another website that did this, but used an image for each letter.
http://javascriptfont.sourceforge.net/

EDIT2: I also found another method for this. This one is open source and allows copying as text.

For the overworld, you could use a ds_list or ds_grid.

In the GM room editor, you can right-click on an instance (if it is a version below 8.1, you must hold control and right-click) and click on "Creation Code". This is a code to be performed in the create event of that particular instance of that object only. You can use it to set a variable such as "rm" to the desired room and you can then use "room_goto(rm)" in the collision event.

Actually, you shouldn't be able to jump off the bridge at that point. The view (3/4) uses 3-dimensions, but people see in two dimensions and light is shown from a monitor in two dimensions. This means that the apparent x and y-values of the objects change even if only the z-value changes. This causes the character to appear to move north, south, east, or west when moving up and down. Normally when jumping over an edge, your x or y-values change only slightly, so the large change in position is an effect of the changing z-value. Jumping at that point causes your x or y values to change more than normally and not your z-value. The edge must be facing the same direction the jumper is moving in. Since I'm never able to describe anything simply due to my necessity to describe everything in great, somewhat repetitive detail to avoid misunderstandings, ultimately creating more confusion, I will also explain it visually.

A while ago I ripped the sign breaking for an engine I was making. I don't know if it's in the engine or not, but it won't hurt to post it if it is.

To get the images from the engine, just open it in Game Maker, open the sprites for editing, and go to file > save as PNG file.

I'd suggest making him a bit taller, mainly by mowing his head upward. It would also be more accurate (though you may not be trying to exactly copy him) to give him a different skin color and change the red thing on his spear to whatever is wrapped around his original one.
