Should posts count in Spam?
« on: April 18, 2006, 02:55:12 am »
I believe they should, because a post count is just that.. A count of how many times you posted. It is not to show how many decent posts you have made. If you want to know that, then go to "Stats" under your profile.. It will show how many times you've posted in certain forums.

So.. Vote!

I said yes, though I'm not sure.  Maybe we should have 2 post counts:  Post count and meaningful post count XD

But it also discourages the posting of spam in other sections just to raise your post count

I agree completely with Sol. We've been through this more than once. Each time the post counts were revoked because of abuse. Spam is not where posts should count. Spam is meant to be a worthless place to shill out, and nothing more. Nothing is added to the community or forum in any way, so why should those posts be acknowledged?

-___- you guys are missing the point of what a post count IS though..

HOW MANY TIMES YOU HAVE POSTED A FRICKIN' MESSAGE.

I'd personally like to know how many times I've posted without having to go into stats and add "spam" onto there.. There's just no point.

If post counts count in spam, then there should be no spam. In spam, you're not posting, your spamming. The reason that spam is able to be so spammy is because it doesn't count for anything...

However:
People can post whatever they want in spam.
Some people want a higher post count, and so thats what theyll post for=> Post count wars.
There could be another post count i suppose, thats only avail in your profile for you to see: a total post count.

I don`t think spam should be counted as a normal post. It`s just a thing to raise your post-count. So i voted no!

Yes I fully agree....we let posts count in Off-Topic already, which wasnt in the original ZFGC.

But if you really want to keep a record, you could make a seperate pos counter for the amount of spams. Ofcourse, coding that might be pretty hard. But that would be sweet.

I know what you're saying Lunar. Post count=ammount of posts you've, well, posted! lol
But people will never get over the assumption that more posts=more respect/power/fame/whatever.

So, allowing it to increase post count will only up the number of spam topics by like 500 times the normal ammount, which is worthless and not needed. A "spam" post is also not concidered a "true post" by many.

Perhaps the post count should just be taken away all togethor? There are some forums that have done that in the past from what I can remember. That way, power is only determined by ranking (mod, admin, etc).

^Just a suggestion.

Yeah I guess I would/should change my vote... They aren't real posts, and why get a post count if its not REALLY a post.  Post count DOES give you some respect... So forget it.  I'll be fine with whatever happens :P
