Title: [Submission]Volcanoraxus
Post by: Kami on June 04, 2012, 12:59:04 am
Note: I'm going to update this later, after I find the paper that had the rest of it's info.(It's battle flow is missing)

Name: Volcanoraxus
Location: Earth Temple Boss
Floor of Dungeon: B2
HP:12

Description: It's a large spider made out of stone. It has magma seeping out of it in certain places, and has three large glowing blue eyes. A sprite of this monster has been attached to this post for better referance.

Attacks:
Bite- 1.25 HP damage to player
The monster bites you and tosses you across the room.
Ram- 2 HP damage to player(Without Shield) .5 HP damage to player(w/ Shield)
The Monster backs up and then rams you knock you down if you don't use you shield, a shield bash stuns the monster.
Jump- 1.5 HP damage to player
It jumps up and you see a shadow, were the shadow stops is were the spider will land. It causes a couple of short distance shock waves once it lands.
Fire Spray- 1 HP damage to player
The monster steps back and spews a stream of fire. It link touches the flames or their embers(Which appear after the fire fades away), link will catch on fire and start run around the room until the fire goes out, making it hard to control what direction he's going.
Carbon Web- 1.5 HP damage if link touches burning web.
If spits a few blobs of Web, when the web blob hits the it's target area or link, it will splat and a web will be on the ground. If link touches the web hes temporily stuck, after a short time the Webs will suddenly burst into flames, damaging link if he touchs it.

Wow, I love the idea of a Magma Spider, and that sprite is killer. Obviously, your post isn't finished, but to comment on what you have already:

He seems a bit easy. Well, so far as the damage he does. Seems low to me. We'd have to adjust it with play testing anyway, but still.

Also, the door of the dungeon he lives on is kind of an irrelevant detail, because that would be dictated by the dungeon design.

I've started on the dungeon layout for this bosses dungeon for it(as seen in a post in dungeons section)
Also, I've found my paper with the info, after 3 hours of tearing my room apart. I kind of thought since the earth temple was probably going to be near goron mountain, that there should be lava in the dungeon somewhere.

Edit: Upped the damage he does.
Also the reason the paper for Volcanoraxus's info was lost in my room somewhere, was when when I knocked over my desk while I was in the process of trying to rip a MC Darknut.

Correct, the Earth Temple resides in the Goron Carbon Mines.

Looks like a solid start.  I'm confused on how his firespray works, specifically how he shoots the projectiles.  Is it a spreadshot, a focused cone of fireballs, several shot to random locations, ect.

I approve of this boss, however he is a spider... in Carbon Mines... so why not give him a web spew attack? Or even better a carbon web based attack. He could spit it out to cover a small area of land each time you hurt him. If you step in it, youre stuck until he sets it aflame and burns you out.

The idea sounds great, but I imagined the spider to look more like stone, like if he was made out of boulders. I made a quick sprite sketch on how he could look like.

I like the overall appearance but were's the Magma on him? He's technically a spider volcano if you could put it like that, he needs more magma and fire.  XD

Also I know it's a quick sprite, but why does it have red/orange eyes? Just wondering.

I thought that red eyes would fit better and to keep a good colour palette, but I can change them :P

EDIT: Added some quick lava to the sketch. The legs could use some lava too, but you'll get my point.

Yeah, I didn't know what his weak spot was so I randomly made a crystal to point it out. A very classic one though :P

Sorry if I offended you, I kind of went to the dentist earlier and my mouth is sore, so I'm kind of in a crappy mood.

Well it does look cool. Maybe his eyes could even look mineral...y.

Should we make a seperate topic for the sprite stuff to this guy?

Anyway, I got two versions of the head. You guys can decide :P

Blue eyes, still look good, they eyes are weak so it needs to stick out from it's redish-brownish surroundings.
When it gets damaged it's head could flash both colors.

For the sprites, I'm just going to add the newest updated sprite of the creature or charactor to my first post of the topics I start.

Yes, It isn't wrong to make a quick sketch if you have difficulty describing the looks. But if you are going to develop sprites and concept art there is a seperate board.

I know that,
Though the sprite board is hidden, so now there's only a concept art board until the sprites are needed.

Edit: Going to Revise this over the weekend.

You guys are welcome to sprite this to your hearts' desire, but this tic is mainly for developing the concept of the boss. If you want to argue about how his eyes look, that fits here (although it's kinda silly) but we don't have the sprite board open yet because.... We haven't chosen what we need to sprite yet! Haha. No sense in having people sprite things that won't even be in the game.

That said, though, there are other forums of ZFGC where the main focus is developing graphics... The graphics board.... :p
If you want to develop a sprite, related to KoT or not, that's a good place.

I'll start a topic there for me and a couple others to develope sprites then.

We have a sprite board currently, however it's not open yet as we don't have a need for them yet.  Just an fyi.

Just so you know, we won't accept any sprites without conceptual art being approved before hand. You're gonna waste your time if you start spriting. Just letting you know so you don't get mad at us for following the current game plan we laid out.

Nah, I won't get mad, If they aren't used oh well. I'll have to get started on their concept art once they're design is done.

:) Well I just wanted to be clear, that's all. It makes sense though, doesn't it? Concept art->comments->revision->approval->final sprite.

EDIT: And I'm gonna shut up so this thread can get back on track >_<

I does make sense, though my printer and scanner crapped out a couple weeks ago, so I won't be able to post any concept art.
(I usually make it on paper, then outline it then color it, I can only make it from sprites for now, because it takes alot longer for me to make concept art without the basic outlines.)
