Kotaku covered this.

It was fun to follow this.  :)

I've been meaning to get back to Demon's Souls, but I'm stuck with Catherine for the time being. I will be sure to try out the Royal class when I get back to it, though.

Oh well it's good whilst it last. Still at least I'm the first on this forum to beat Ocarina of Time 3D's original quest :P
I beat the original quest the same day I got the game. I got it at opening hours and beat it before I went to bed.  ;)

You Swedish !@#$%, I have to wait until Sunday. >:(

Still, I'm excited for it, and it's good to hear that it's keeping to the values of the original. :D

As far as the OOT2D comment.. Well, see my signature. ;3
This is the first time since like Shenmue 2 something similar has happened!  :o I lol'd at the signature, btw.

King Tetiro, selected retailers in the UK also got green Link hats I believe. Very limited quantities were produced. Didn't Australia get ocarinas? What is America getting?

Entertainment / Ocarina of Time 3D
« on: June 17, 2011, 09:18:55 pm »
I picked up my copy this morning when the store opened. The pre-order bonus we got in Sweden is a little pin. The same kind of pin we got as a bonus when we pre-ordered Ocarina of Time likea decade ago. Anybody else got theirs?

I'm at the Forest Temple right now. So far the only con has been that Ruto's message in the bottle looked sort of wierd when Link got it if you have the 3D on max. The best improvements I have found so far:

  • The gyroscope controls for first person stuff. They work amazing and allow quick and accurate aim beyond what was possible before.
  • Mido's walking animation. Maybe it was present in the original, but it's really funny looking in the remake. It suits him well.
  • The rework that has been done on Temple of Time. Temple of Time looks absolutely stunning. Especially when Link is a child.

Some things have just changed though. Camera angles during scripted events is one thing that isn't particularly bothering me, but it just feels unfamiliar. Oh example is when Link is sitting on his bed (?) in the beginning and when Darunia is dancing to Saria's song. I can see why they didn't want the camera to spin like in the original because of the 3D, though.

What are your thoughts?

Entertainment / Re: 3 years was worth the wait: MGS4
« on: March 10, 2011, 01:47:13 pm »
I've played Twin Snakes, MGS2 and MGS3, and I've come to a conclusion that I do really like the MGS series. Mostly for the epic story, though a little anime-inspired (which does dull the experience for me), and the unique gameplay structure that I feel I could manage to be good at if I tried hard enough. I can understand why some people don't like MGS, though. I think the gameplay in the first 3 games is flawed in a lot of ways, a lot of people have compared it to Splinter Cell (namely Chaos Theory) and I think I can agree when they say Splinter Cell shits all over MGS, gameplay-wise. MGS has a certain charm though, and I really want to play MGS4, but I don't think I will until the PS3 experiences an enormous price drop, possibly in another 5 years.
E-bay or Amazon.

Hell, it's only $299...What, a $100 more than the 4gb 360.
But I don't know everyone's financial situation :/
Add and extra $200 or so and you reach the australian price.

Or just buy a US PS3 and jailbreak it so you can play games region free. WHOOPS! I think I just triggered a Sony lawsuit!
Unless it's Blu-ray you're after, the PS3 is region free. It is only Blu-ray movies that are region encoded. To my knowledge it doesn't help to jailbreak the system.

I don't see why an Australian wouldn't import a system if they wanted it so bad. I've gone through 3 360's during the lifetime of a single PS3 that I bought at the launch of MGS4.

Games made for a CRT display look worse on a modern high defenition TV, there is no denying that. Most of my retro games are PAL, but my NES collection is strictly NTSC. When I was playing Metal Gear the other day I had a blurry ghostlike figure following Snake as we walked around. It looks grainy, streched, and blurry, unlike when I played it on my old TV (RIP). For the record I play in 4:3 ratio with standard AV cables (not RF) on a NES-01, the 1985 Canadian version.

Graphics / Who made this Darunia sprite?
« on: February 08, 2011, 09:21:10 pm »
This is from a while back on ZFGC. I can't remember who made this Darunia sprite, but it is awesome and I would like to have the original sheet because the one I have is scaled down:

I would also like to know if there are more like it. It was too long ago, I just can't remember.

Making a NES region free means disabling the lockout chip. Remember that:

- NTSC-U and NTSC-J (American and Japanese) games run at 60Hz, so if they are played on a PAL-A or PAL-B console they will run 17% faster than they should, rendering some games unplayable. The same thing applies to playing a PAL-A/PAL-B game on a NTSC-U/J console except it will be 17% slower. To fix this you basically have to install a modchip that can switch between the 60Hz and 50Hz modes. It's a pain and not really worth doing, you are better of just getting another NES from the region you desire.

- Japanese NES games don't exist. They had the Famicom instead with entirely differently shaped cartridges. They will NOT fit in your regular NES unit.

- It's just a pain and not worth doing in my opinion. Get a Famicom!

Loud Pipes is probably my favourite song with them. Wildcat is classic too. I really like the new album as well, in particular I like Bilar and Drugs.

It's hard to put Ratatat in a genre. In my opinion it's electronic rock, what's your opinion?

I enjoyed Assassin's parkour, but in my opinion it was a bit to repetitive. Dead Space is a great game, I just haven't had time to beat it yet.

While I value your opinion and respect your right to express your opinion, whatever it is, I must kindly ask you to go !@#$% yourself and have a nice day.

Assuming you've missed my question, hence not answering it, I quote myself to bump it.

Are you going to release the source to the Wind Waker graphics demo?  I'm sure it would be useful to many.

I really don't like the way this looks.  I can't see this making it all the way through development.

Hmm, so you like sheeps? XD

Spontaneous OT lesson of the day:  Sheep in plural is still sheep.  Just like fish.
