Title: Changes in game design
Post by: MG-Zero on November 17, 2011, 02:49:33 pm
Ok, so it's been an issue for some time now and we attempted to resolve it by splitting the division into groups, but the game design division is too large.  As such, we're making a few changes to it:

The division will be split into two divisions: Design and Levels.  Design will handle anything related to story and gameplay.  Levels will handle all overworld, dungeon and interior design.  Currently, there are 9 of you in game design, so a 5 - 4 split is ideal, although still pushing it.  Groups are also being abolished, so anyone in design will work on everything and anyone in levels will work on everything.  However, only one aspect is to be focused on at a time.  Currently, Max will direct the design division (and welcome aboard!).  At this time, 2 members have been suggested to work on one of the divisions.  Of course, they still may choose where they'll be.  The two are Master Paul on Levels, and DarkHylian on Design.  So, on that note, please post here for which division you wish to move to.  Remember, this is a first-come first-serve basis.

I'll go with design, so I can help out with the story.

Awesome, I got Mirby!
Story will be covered a bit later, once gameplay is all worked out. We're gonna tackle this one Nintendo style.

MG, are levels and game design working simultaneously? I ask because, although I'm directing one division, I was wondering if I could help with the visuals of the levels. Since the art people aren't kicking in for a while, I was in there, I thought the levels could maybe use some concept art?

I also picked story because, once upon a time, I was ZFGC's Story Editor. :3

And I'd like to know this as well. Curiosity never hurt, after all.

I'm down for helping out with gameplay or enemy (story wise) design, too, if possible.

I'll help Max, we appear to get along. If not, I'll kinda just lurk and make suggestions XD

I have very, very little time with school, but if you guys want me as sort of an advisor for the story then I might be able to help.

Honestly, the less people the better per team is ideal. A project doesn't need that many.

We'd prefer if we just kept it exclusive to the 9 people in the game design division.  Also, because of the same issue, we also don't want people working in both divisions.  3 so far.  6 to go, I'll save my choice for last.

Does this apply for leads or just everyone involved?

EDIT: I get it. Nvm.

!@#$%.  I miscounted, there was 10 of us.  Alright, well, at least the teams will be even.  Master Paul and I will take on levels.  We need a director for levels next.  Who would like to volunteer?  It must be one of the 5, we're not adding any others.

I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this, but I can't find a "General Info" thread on this topic.

I would like to know more about what King of Thieves is.  I'm looking to get involved in a project of some sort - I have music composition and sprite creating skills.  As far as I can tell, this looks like a Community-made Zelda fangame, but I really can't seem to find any information about it that explains it in any detail.  I would expect to find something in the Project Plan (http://zfgc.com/forum/index.php?topic=38242.0) topic, but alas, not there either. :)

Well, seems an alright place to me.
I think the thing about the info is that this project has been around for a really really long time, and this is at least its second sort of reincarnation, haha. A lot of the old stuff that isn't really relevant anymore... well, all of the old stuff was archived, and isn't viewable by the majority of people anymore.

So, summary time! You're completely right, this is a community-made fan game!
This topic, current design info (http://zfgc.com/forum/index.php?topic=38443.0), outlines a lot of the plot of the game, at least, as much as we've decided so far. So that can kind of give you a taste of where the game might go. In the level design topic, there's a screenshot from one of the old King of Thieves iterations, which could give you a view artistically.

As for how to help out, the system in place now is that there are divisions, game design, software development, art, sound, and Level Design. People can join a team or two. Mostly just game design and levels are active right now, and those teams are already full, I believe.

However, as this is just a small internet forum that is apparently constantly on the verge of death, lots of teams have people going MIA. I'm directing the Game Design division, and I've had one of my team disappear. The Levels team seems to be at three at the moment, too. Anyway, since I'm missing a member, I'd gladly accept help if you'd like to join in with game design.

But when I last looked (which was just now), there was one more opening on the art team, which will be doing spriting. Sound team hasn't opened up recruitment yet. So just post something in the art recruitment thread if you'd like to help out with spriting, wait for the sound team to happen (could be a while... o.O ), or if you'd like to help out with game design, I'll welcome you to the team.

Also, since this kind of is the wrong place to ask, that makes this the wrong place to reply, so sorry, MG. But there isn't really a right place to ask/reply, so... : D
