I was actually reading it myself when it was released. Normally I look at who wrote the update/articles/news post/whatever. When it was about fan games, I had to check who wrote it and I was surprised when I noticed it was you. It was a good piece of writing about fan games nevertheless.

So how's Zelda Informer? Figured I'd ask as my site is an affiliate. XD
Ah really? Which of our affiliates are you :p?
And yeah, writing for ZI is pretty awesome. I'm so happy I go the job, haha.

And thanks everyone for the comments!

I now write for ZeldaInformer, and I wrote up this little article not long ago, just discussing the culture of fan games a little bit. Just thought you guys would be interested, I mention a few classics from the olden days of ZFGC and a few other gems I've stumbled across too! Let me know what you think :)

These all look great, I just wish someone would take the initiative to mix these up with an A Link to the Past engine and make Ocarina of Time 2D! How hard could it be?

I caught the 18-pounder (as Adult Link) and I still won the Golden Scale. Only took me about 40 minutes. The trick (like fishing IRL) is just patience. Don't get mad about it, try to have music or a movie going on in the background as you fish. If your aim is right, the Hylian Loach will take notice of your line. It tends to lose attention pretty easily, so don't get mad if it does. I found a good strategy was to wait until it stopped wagging its tail and then shift the line with the joystick. Keep doing this, and eventually the fish will lunge at the line. It's tricky to reel it in... the trick, I found (I'm not sure if it works) is to pull the joystick in the direction the loach isn't moving (so if it's pulling left, you pull right, if it pullls away from you, pull it to you). The Loach changes direction a lot. Just keep at it and you'll get it in time.

I find it awesome and weird not sure what that means but I can't beleive they are still stuck with OoT, I mean I understand it's awesome! but all console games after OoT use songs of that game >-<
Technically the song first appeared in A Link to the Past :p

Sounds like a lot of the FF games aren't even too great. FF3, 7, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14. I suppose the series just rides on the success of 4, 6 and 9.
As for me, I've never played Chrono Trigger. Not really sure why.

Thanks Dantz :D! Appreciate it heaps.

I have a screwed up eyeball too. Go to 3D movies, and I can't see no !@#$% coming out at me, or whatever. Glasses don't help, surgery might, but anyway, 1 in 10 people can't experience the 3D effect. So, obviously I don't plan on using it on the 3DS. On the other hand, I can see how Nintendo will make the 3D effect fun. Shiggy said something like, actually incorporating the 3D effect into games like Super Mario 3DS, and I went to have a think about it, and I came up with the idea that they could totally have like (in a sidescrolling context) platforms to jump between, except only when the platforms are on the same depth plane as Mario, which may be when they come out of the screen or when they're not. The same thing could totally be done with vine hopping in Donkey Kong - rather than vines swinging from left to right in a sidescrolling world, swing from away from you, to you. It's sorta like Super Paper Mario in reverse. Anyway, if I could experience the 3D effect, I think that would be really rad.

Woe is me.

don't blame Shiggy blame Eiji, he is the one behind zelda since MM :(.
Actually PH and ST were directed by some other guy, with a significantly smaller development team.
And yeah, I agree with FISSURE in saying that these two games were good games, but only okay Zeldas. I can sort of feel Skyward Sword is going to take a similar path as well...

re-reading and putting on my favorites. This is so awesome! I LOL:d so hard when you cuddled with your yoshi doll and mentioned your girlfriend, I yelled at my boyfriend and started spouting some random good-humored, "look look, they have a yoshi doll as well! :D" haha....
Hahahaha! Thank you, I'm so happy you like it :). And yes, I brought home a Yoshi doll one day and my girlfriend was just like, "why didn't you bring home a TOAD DOLL?!" But in truth the Yoshi doll makes me happy enough :)

Thanks guys :). I'm glad you all like it. And yeah, Tumblr is quite prone to server overloads... it's a little bit frustrating :/

http://world1-1.tumblr.com/

I'm not sure if anyone here is actually stupid enough to use tumblr, but well, this would be my new writing project, central to games. It's actually an assignment (where we were told to use tumblr) for my Networked Media Production class I'm taking this semester, but I've gotten really into it and I'm sort of planning on continuing to post on it after the assignment is due, if I can gather a decent reader-base (and hopefully attract some good contacts in games journalism, but I'll need to pick up my game to achieve that).

So uhh, yeah. Follow it, read it, show your friends, comment on it, provide some feedback here if you like? Any attention is good attention.

Cheers guise!

Entertainment / Re: 3 years was worth the wait: MGS4
« on: March 09, 2011, 01:39:51 pm »
I've played Twin Snakes, MGS2 and MGS3, and I've come to a conclusion that I do really like the MGS series. Mostly for the epic story, though a little anime-inspired (which does dull the experience for me), and the unique gameplay structure that I feel I could manage to be good at if I tried hard enough. I can understand why some people don't like MGS, though. I think the gameplay in the first 3 games is flawed in a lot of ways, a lot of people have compared it to Splinter Cell (namely Chaos Theory) and I think I can agree when they say Splinter Cell shits all over MGS, gameplay-wise. MGS has a certain charm though, and I really want to play MGS4, but I don't think I will until the PS3 experiences an enormous price drop, possibly in another 5 years.

The thing about these big new directional ideas is that they never go anywhere because no one is willing to put in the effort.

I'm not against change, just, make sure we're making small changes gradually as we get to something bigger. You can't really go from zero to hero in an instant.

Mostly, I like the little community feeling. It's nice, quiet, there's no real faggotry. But hey, whatever.

It's weird how the main character not talking in a game can somehow break down the wall between you and the game's world. I guess that's how you establish the "link".

I just want to own the console. It's nothing to do with playing it on a TV... I can do that anyway. I just wanted to own the console in physical form, because for some reason it makes me happy, I dunno.

It's really quite good MaJoRa, well done. I guess, I just have an issue with 3D maps that are built around using the Hookshot and Longshot to get around, being translated into 2D. It just seems the roofs of Gerudo Fortress would be odd to navigate, just looking at it, like that. Or maybe, they just wouldn't be very fun. But I like your work, it's very accurate to both ALttP and OoT, and it's well-thought. Nicely done.

XD I don't think there's a positive side to Tingle :P

For me, Tingle represents a time when Zelda turned into dribble. I suppose it's different for people who actually enjoyed Majora's Mask though.
Well I think you deserve a smack to the head for not enjoying Majora's Mask... no offence Mammy :P

I don't have an issue with Tingle appearing in Zelda games, because I guess at the same time there a lot of awesome characters too... Tingle is just, the epitome of, something awful. I mean in Majora's Mask you had cool characters like Skull Kid, Darmani, Mikau and Kafei, fun, playful characters like the Bombers, Romani and the Deku Princess, beautifully-composed characters like Anju, Cremia and Lulu, and quirky, weird, mysterious characters like the Deku Butler, Kamaro and Igos du Ikana. And then you have Tingle. You don't have to put up with him for the whole adventure, he's just kind of... there. If he was there in larger doses, he'd be really friggin' annoying.

Anyway, I think Tingle is a character who was just better received in Japan, and the Tingle DS games were meant to be distributed in Japan. That's pretty much why they weren't released internationally. So threads like this on Zelda forums like this wouldn't be made.

20
Why did you buy a game with Tingle on the box?

Eh, I've discussed this topic until my eyes and fingers have bled. Yeah, Nintendo's changed it's dynamic, they're pretty !@#$% now. As a cause of that, I've just been picking up games that I've heard are pretty good, of which there are few, but you know, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Donkey Kong Country Returns... I also got Metroid: Other M this year, but I didn't like it at all.

And I guess I'm cool to mix that up with the occasional 360 game.
