Agreed to the power of ten.

Though I think it's a special case when the game is "unobtainable" or out of production - for instance, if I wanted to play Earthbound, I would either have to move to the US, or buy a US SNES, an American TV, plug adapters and a couple of transformers, not to mention the game cartridge itself.

And in doing all of this, Nintendo makes no money because they stopped printing the game years ago.

Agree with Pyru. I download NES, SNES, GB and even a few GBA roms. I just figured that Nintendo doesn't lose money, and theres no way to fit all these games on a Wii Virtual Console.

I don't steal roms because it's illegal. But I understand when something is like Earthbound, Super Mario RPG, etc. and they are difficult to get. Virtual Console should probably fix that (should, but sometimes Nintendo is really stupid).

Sadly it hasn't been used yet to release games that were never localised (at least not in the case of Europe).

That, and not all games will be released on the VC, XBLA, or whatever the Playstation equivalent is called.

Break into someone's house and take 'em. Could be in the form of the original cartridges/discs or their hard drive with the data on it. :P

The funny thing about laws is that no human being can exist without breaking at least one law somewhere in their life. It's not physically possible...it's quite strange, when you think about it. The one thing that protects us from the rest of society is actually the one thing society couldn't truly exist without going against in some form...

I pirate because I'm poor. Yes, I would pay for it if I could...but I can't. And I still want to play games and listen to music.

Does that make it right? No. Am I still going to do it? Probably.

How about you cut this holier than thou !@#$%.

I still buy everything I want to support, I have dozens of games, dvds, boxsets, and CDs.
It doesn't change the fact I have to use what I think is a broken and overpriced system.
I and most pirates don't consider themselves noble freedom fighters as that !@#$%-worthy 'article' presumes, it's just a far superior alternative that fucks with the people that would love to !@#$% with me.

Uh.

Making an exact copy of something != stealing.

If you make a copy of what you have, it is a legitimate copy.  If you get a copy from someone you know, it is sharing.  If you search out and get something from someone that you do not really know, then in essence you are getting something that becomes stolen or at least legally something that doesn't belong to you legitimately.

Oh, and I do pirate some things, but that is mostly games that I need to work with on an emulator and I usually own a copy of the game or plan on getting it later; like I might download a Japanese game to see what it will be like so I do not have to wait until it is translated.  Anime is also cool to download because I am then able to enjoy something that others may not know about as well and it is good for the industry anime importers who do dubbing because it shows them what to spend money on reserving the rights of.
