This Fall, PSP will gain direct access to the PlayStation Store. This long promised feature will allow for PSP users to download demos and more directly to the portable without having to go through the PS3 or PC.

Perhaps more significant than both these developments, Sony will be offering PSP players some new connectivity options thanks to a new service that further ties the portable with the PS3. This Fall, select PSP titles will allow players to go through the PS3 to take their ad-hoc multiplayer modes online. When playing in this fashion, the PS3 can be used for text and chat messaging and also for matching.

Currently, Sony has confirmed that Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G will be compatible with this new service. In Japan, this is big news, as that title has sold over 2.4 million units.

Other titles, as well as further details on the service, will be announced in the near future.

Both these features will be compatible with all models of the PSP, from the original up to the new PSP-3000.

These two new features will be included in firmware updates later this year.

Discuss.

Kind of makes me wish I had a PSP; then again, I borrowed my dad's for a while and the only game that I played was the enhanced version of Lunar Lander for the Atari Classics.  I do not really know why.  But the news of those new features is great though.

I had been waiting for this! But now I can just go through the PS3, so it's only good for me when on the go.

Hey look, another idea stolen by Sony. <_<
Last time I checked, Wii did that first with the DS and Wii's wifi.
Can game companies become more original, please?

Since when can you buy and download entire DS games through WiFi? Can Faldomars be more knowing what they're talking about, please?

It's not my point, I just want game prducers to stop copying each other. And yes, the Wii can download games onto the DS, go try it out. I distinctly remember playing a Ninja Gaiden DS demo I downloaded from the Wii.

They could easily make it so you can download a full game onto it. But anyways, it's still the same idea, use the major system to download a game onto the portable system. The only difference being that the PSP can actually store the game because of the memory stick.

And I have a Wii, PS2, and I play Xbox 360 at my friend's houses all the time, a fanboy I am not.

So you have other systems and you play other systems? You're still a fanboy crying because someone copied OMG NINTENDO.

And because Nintendo has an "Online Store" no one else is allowed to?

This is so that the PSP can download it WITHOUT the use of PS3 or Computer...

I'm complaining about all the copying that the three game consoles have been doing recently. I could totally see Microsoft coming out like like... a Xbox portable system sometime soon. Then everything will be equal. *yawn*

Let's quote something someone smart said.

If nothing was ever allowed to be copied the world would be in a real !@#$% up state.

Seriously, the ignorance coming out of your posts is just ridiculous.

Copying isn't the same as redundancy and quoting someone "smart" after quoting someone else is like saying that someone else is stupid.

However, upon further inspection, "inspiration" isn't totally copying, it just bugs me when portable systems get to the point of being so similar to the consoles they are related to, because then it just makes me not want to have the console.  Arguably, "copying" is cool if you can do it better.

Maybe I had the wrong choice of words, but this is also where I am getting at. What's the point of having a different console if it provides the same exact stuff as the other consoles?

I dunno, perhaps the different games...or the different control methods (aka the Wii)...theres more to a console then just an online store...
