Mark: Only will work on windows
LynkW:And Linux?

So here we are. I have GM6 Running on Ubuntu now. It works fine, except..Games will always crash. Using LynkWLogic, I think we need some kind of DirectX Drivers.

Don't use that proprietary !@#$%. In fact, I'm glad it doesn't work.

I tried it before, games made in it (exes) work, but you can't run them from GM.

They do? Good.

Look, I'm a 7th grader, so I know apples about C, so I just stick with GM for now.

I'm a ninth grader, and I'm a noob with C too. I recommend Python.

I recommend C#, it's extremely easy to use and it help you to think in terms of Objects, which is always good programming practice. It's also a lot easier than C++ too (which is odd, because most C# tutorials seemed to be aimed at people leaving C++) :P

Mono.net is a linux version of the .net framework, so should run on Ubuntu, right?

BTW, GM6 is not perfect, its slower and slightly weirder, but its still bearable.

You should check out Stencyl. I'm not sure if it will be able to run on linux, but its an open source game development tool thing that's in development. Hopefully something will come of it soon.

Python's NOT a Java derivative. It has some things in common though.

Python's WAY easier than C#, and faster/better supported too.

Stencyl probably won't come out for a while, and you can't do nearly as much in it as in Python.

In terms of difficulty, Python is around the level of Blitz BASIC. Download Python and the Pygame module, and you'll be able to quickly and easily make games that aren't tied to any company or proprietary product. ;)

Holy !@#$% Stencyl has a Mana engine right off the bat!  I may have to put my Zelda fan game on hold until it's released.  I am going to use a Mana style engine for my Zelda fan game and this would help alot.

Stencyl? I wish. it won't come out for a while.TFS, your better off learning PAlib or GML than waiting for Stencyl.

GM will not work on any Linux distribution, it relies on DirectX, which is a proprietary software by Window$.

It *can* do DirectX, and it's constantly getting better.

I concur. It's getting bloody brilliant. Also, doesn't this imply that the development of Wine will become a lot easier soon?
That's good to hear.
