I already have a thread in recruiting asking for others to help join on this project I'm working on, but here's my showcase of the creatures I've finished thus far. Constructive criticism is welcome, but keep in mind these are all in the pixel shading style of Heart Gold and Soul Silver :)

Young Deku, will need a custom name in-game. This will be the grass starter.

Baby Zora, Water Starter

Baby Goron, Fire Starter

OOT/MM Oktorok

OOT(Navi) and MM(Tael)

Oracle of Seasons/Ages Moosh:

Oracle of Seasons/Ages Ricky:

As I work on these I'll update this post :)

If you think this is cool or want to help make some of these, check out my thread over here.

Very nice job so far. Also, I modified your post so the hyperlink at the bottom works (it wasn't before).

This looks really interesting, I'll be following this daily, for sure.

Have you thought about modding or coding a fan-game based on this?
A Hybrid of Pokemon and Zelda could go really well, especially if you took in certain aspects of both respective games.

I've never played Pokemon, but I definitely would play this, eventually, anyway. (I may want to play my first Pokemon game before I do so)

If this goes on awhile, I can't wait to see the bosses rockin the spots of legendary Pokemon, if that's how that'll go, anyway.

That's the plan :)

The main thread for the game is over at Pokecommunity.

Right now I'm working on the Deku's backsprite. (He'll be like the new Bulbasaur)

EDIT: Finished. It's up in the first post :)

So, it's a heck after all.
I'm more used to Zelda hecking myself, even though I'm working on an originally coded game with Cheerful Sage, but I know that hecking in the Zelda world is very limited.

However, I do know it can vary greatly from game to game.
Since it looks like you're an experienced modder on that forum, I want to know:
How limited is Pokemon hecking?

For instance, are dungeons really a plausible idea?
And how crazy is the idea of your heck, possible or not?

(BTW, I don't think you should replace pokeballs at all. I think a dimensions colliding kind of story is a lot more fun than a Zelda parody.)

We're replacing Pokeballs, and it's not a parody at all, in fact this is intended to be an all new Zelda game, the only difference being the combat mechanic is switched to Link being a monster tamer. Pokeballs are being replaced by crystals, and only those who hold the power of the triforce can capture them, or at least that's what we've come up with in the thread so far haha.

Dungeons are completely possible, Pokemon Häcking(sorry, I hate this heck stuff) isn't very limited at all anymore, at least for Fire Red. There are many great tools and many people with coding knowledge that can implement all sorts of cool stuff. Mapping is very easy, too. :)

I haven't gotten around to making their backsprites yet, but here's a sampler of the starters:

Here are a list of all enemies in Zelda, sorted by type:
http://zeldawiki.org/Category:Enemies_by_type

Here are a list of all races in Zelda:
http://zeldawiki.org/Races

I wouldn't suggest naming any specific characters as a creature final evolution.

For Goron for example, why not go:
Baby Goro > Goron > Biggoron

Also, I think Goron would more likely be a rock type, because they don't really associate with fire, other than growing bombs, they are just resistant to it.

Yup, thought of all that before, dxceptmi said ground but youd be right that theyre rock not ground. Yeah, now that I'm thinking of it, theres no reason why I would need a fire type starter.

Updated with Ricky, his 'shiny' colors are taken from Kangaskhan.

Also, here's a little preview of the look of the game:

This is a more updated look at how it's going over on the game:

Here's Link's trainer sprite and overworld:

Here's a mockup of the titlescreen, too:

And here's progress on Dimitri before I do his backsprite:

Huh... Yeah that's annoying. We've got a rogue mod on our hands it seems.

Here's some new stuff:

Two separate creatures, or does one evolve into the other?

If the latter, which evolves into which?

The Windwaker/Minish Cap ChuChus evolve into the Majora's Mask ChuChus, and then maybe those'll evolve into the ones from Skyward Sword, only in appearance though as they'll all be electric types.

I've since edited the WW/MC ones to be smaller so it's a bit more apparent.

Maybe it could evolve into a Mad Jelly, or Cho Worm.
I would suggest a Big Chu, but that would mean reversing the order of the evolution, or making it go back to looking like a WW one, which would be weird. :P

Why not base the shiny version off Rare Chu's from TP? Not in shape, but you know, yellow, sparkling, and whatnot.

The third form is Skyward Sword's ChuChu, just haven't gotten around to spriting it yet. About the colors, there may be different spawns for green and red chuchus anyways, depending on how this game works out certain enemies may have a tougher version of the same enemy (higher base stats) in different colors.

I just hit 200 posts over at PokeCommunity, so I made this video:
