Title: LTTP Style OOT Lake Hylia Update
Post by: MaJoRa on August 10, 2006, 04:56:07 pm
Well as a lot of you know i hit a tiling spree the other day and I've been doing a few things for fun, one of which was to update my Lake Hylia with a few of the missing details. New features include the northern waterfall, a custom sprited tree and rock (where you shoot for the fire arrow), and the sign on the entrance to the fishing area. I have also changed the background tiles to match the ones on my Hyrule Field (as it seems logical to), so here you are, and enjoy:

OLD POST:
Well personally ive been working my ass off on this for quite a while now, as a request from AleX_XelA on making Lake Hylia from ocarina of time, in 2d lttp style. The final result, soon to be on the fendez website, is here:

There are a few large difference due to the conversion from 3d to 2d, for example to entrance to the temple will now be on the south side, instead of the north so it is acessible, and the house with the scientist in now has a southern door, not western, as does the fishing area.

The link to the actual file is here as the forum resized it:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v173/Zeldamo/LakeHylia.png

Use if you wish, credit to me of course.

edit: Added the top part to the scientists home, and made the fire arrow stone larger, couldnt sprite the dead tree...

The grid doesn't effect you if you use game maker. In cell seperation you just put one.

If the grid is such a large issue for gamemaker users, and not, i think il have to make an application that is capable of removing it. :D

Nice!

Couple of things though :

- The tree on the most Southern part of the map, should be a dead tree, as seen on the pic named "THE LEGEND OF ZELDA-21.jpg". You could try spriting it?
- The scientist house has an upper part, where a piece of heart lies. You should add that too, and try to change the roof's colour to a more purple one.
- On the island southern-west, it should be a tomb instead of a black thing.
- Finally, on the same island as the dead tree one, the stone thing should be twice as big! Look at  "THE LEGEND OF ZELDA-22.jpg", it's bigger than Adult Link! And you should add more detail.

All in all, the planning, design of the map is AWESOME, but you should put more detail by adding your own edits to the house, tree and stone thingy.

Keep up the awesome work!

Right now I can say if Gamemaker users look carefully at the Background tiles options, they'll find the options to ignore the grid. No need for any applications.

I shall attempt the dead try.
The upper part of the scientists house, i forgot about, that can be change :D
The bit where the tomb should be, is a hole, so the user can put his own tombstone there, and when itt moves, the hole will be revealed (done on purpose)
The stones, twice that big? I shall work on it.

Thanks a lot MaJoRa, you have good skills for mapping out things! Keep up the awesome work!

Laigonaz, I believe there are other ways to make a game than Game Maker, don't you think? Having the map without the separations is a good idea, care to take care of it? Just load the bg and make a new room, then print screen and voila!

If you want to go ahead, im sure people would find that to be very useful, but the official one stays like this, hehe.

Pretty awesome, nothing to complain about except for the things that Alex_Xela already mentioned. Nice solutions for the 3D-2D-problems, too. ;) But yeah, the grid is annoying for GM-users...

Right, here's Part one of Lake Hylia. without the grid Majora. I'll start on Part 2.

LMAO - why don't you just use the de-gridding program whathisname made?

You can remove the grid in 1 second!

Pretty good!

Here are some cliffs :

Taken from Kousougames.co.uk

I'm still not satisfied with some details, but I guess I'll just have to make a request, the stone thing next to the (supposedly) dead tree, should have the royal mark on it, heck it should be a lot more detailed.

One thing you could sprite though, the Fishing Pond entrance, as seen on screenshot "LEGEND OF ZELDA-18.jpg", has a marking on the left side, should be quite easy to sprite. Apart from that, this is awesome!

Keep up the amazing work!

Edit : Here's the ref for the fishing pond mark :

Wow thats awsome MaJoRa ^^ Though one thing, the Firearrow stone, perhaps make it one tile more over, or down, because you need room for the fire arrow AND Linky :P ;) But yeah, its really awsome eitherway ^^

Yes, i will do, but for the moment im not at home, and the computer im using has monitor issues, so i cant sprite with it, you will have to wait until monday night for that.

You forgot my favourite part of the whole lake, the water fall just under the bridge. Other then that, its great. (Especially for the first one to make a lake hylia)

I don't like the way you used grass details to make paths.  That's not how they were used in LttP.

IIRC the island before the dead tree one has a grave on it.

Shefali - You're right, that is not how they are use in Lttp. However if you look at the sprite itself it is more like stepped on grass, than grass itself. The areas where people are most likely to walk are the most likely areas to be stepped on, therefore this use is logical. It is also used to create character and feeling, to prevent the scene from appearing bare. Although I do appreiciate some people do not feel comfortable with it, saying which the grass is the most simplistic part of the map to remove if you see fit.

Jeod - Well it would seem you are also right, if I remember correctly when I originally posted this I left that as a hole so that people could sprite their own if need be (because I was not a experienced enough spriter to make it look correct). Although now I suppose I am capable of making such a sprite, when I have time I shall add it.
