???I think the anti-Christian bias ??? it???s just got to stop,??? Mallory said.

LMFAO

It said she's an Evangelical Christian, which renders her opinions useless. It also said she wanted to replace the HP books with "Left Behind: The Kids" and that made me roffle. This is just another case of a tightass Conservative who tries to beat his/her religious values into her children's heads. It's no better than brainwashing someone, I tell you.

The worst thing is that she's not even the slightest bit knowledgeable about anything she's talking about. At least some of these crazy ass christians will actually read the damn thing.

This will most likely spawn into a debates topic.

I think people misunderstand so much in this world. If you're a person of any religion, its private keep it private, most likely no one else cares, if you wish to pray/worship in a group, do it, and do it with your group.

It really amazes me at how she thinks she can assert her (what I see as an equally bias) opinion into peoples lives.  The opinion she is asserting, and seemingly getting away with, is that Harry Potter is 'evil' and bad for the children, bad for all children. Why is it that parents today assume that rather than watching their children they can just substitute it with laws and policies that restrict all children from doing things. American society is so lazy and absurd anymore it amazes me.

Tell me are we going to rip Lord of the Rings off the shelf now too because it speaks of 'magic' and things that don't seem 'Christian'. How about Ender's Game because it speaks differently of God and life (though Orson Scott Card is a devout Mormon). Maybe we should get rid of the coming of age novels because they cause children to think about life. No more Lord of the Flies, get rid of a Separate Piece.

I understand that people have 'family values', but keep your family values within your family, not all families respect/recognize the same values. Thats something that belongs in your home and away from public areas. If you do not want your child to read something, tell them specifically they are not aloud to read it, if you catch them reading it, punish them for it. Its a private matter not a public one.

In other words, Christian/Jewish/Muslim/Buddhist/Atheist/, whatever, get off your lazy !@#$% ass. This is "America" land of the free, which means keep private matters in your house where it belongs.

(Since I took it there, moved to debates <3)

I don't like the Harry Potter movies, but why attempt to ban them? O_o, Its not violent, its aimed at kids, its based on the worlds best selling novel.  The only reason why I don't like it is because its crappy directed and just boring, not saying I can do a better job... because I can't.

Andrews post just says it all really (Unless I misread it) Christians shouldn't control everyones life and teh choices they make, instead there own lives.

I am a Christian, and I can tell you from a christian standpoint that this woman is a lunatic. She says it would be hypocritical to read the book, but that the fact that she pays taxes allows her to speak out against this book. Fair enough - but that applies to only books in generla. What would entitle her to speak out against a particular book? Knowledge of the book. She says she has "researched online", most likely reading book reviews and biased articles also objecting to the book's content. This in no way gives her any justifiable knowledge of the book itself - only select people's opinions on it. She says she would not have to read an entire porn mag to know that it was obscene. However, if somebody defamed a softcore pornography magazine or titillating advertisement in a way that made it sound obscene and she mistook it to be of worse content than it was, that would not be grounds for argument either.

Also, the fact that she suggests C.S. Lewis' "Chronicles of Narnia" series to replace it seems very, very hypocritical to me. It also contains witchcraft, magic, evil themes, witches, fantastical settings and actions, and nowhere does it promote Christianity. Christians simply jump to the conclusion that it does because it was written by a Christian author and it's story has a few parallels, mostly in the character fo Aslan, who appears to me and others to ahve been inspired by the character of Jesus Christ. But where, exactly, did Jesus fight off witches, lead gigantic wars, or make four children kings of the world?

Her argument is highly ludicrous, terribly biased, and absolutely uninformd. If the school board approves the removal, I will eprsonally send a protest letter, probably containing this post. This woman has no right to make these claims, based on what she herself has said.

I don't see any reason for her to protest like that, it's not like the books are based on a true story or something. ???
It's just a book, and if people want to read it, let them.

That would be the inquisition era europe. The four kingdoms that were made were Spain, France, Germany, and England.

People hate that which they do not understand.  If it offends you, don't read it.  Don't force your strict-ass beliefs on your children, and the children of others you stupid !@#$%.  This is almost as bad as people trying to get rid of Christmas because it offends Jews or Muslims.  If it's not your holiday, don't celebrate it.  You think I'm going to celebrate Ramadan?  No.  Does it offend me that people of that religion celebrate it?  !@#$% no.  I guess some people would get annoyed that there's Christmas propaganda everywhere even though they're not of that religion, but honestly, who cares?  If a store wants to have a Hanuka sale, I would not be opposed to having Jewish music and all that everywhere.  If you don't like something, don't do it retards, don't make other people suffer because of your diluted and misguided beliefs... >_>

Wait, is this the same woman who claimed that warlocks are enemies of God and then started calling all the kids hypocrites? Yeah, we had an extensive argument about her on ZP. Personally, as a Christian myself, I find it offensive. She is the very reason no one likes Christians.

Who said no-one likes Christians?

It's just a lot of people find Christians who let religion be their sole motivator for life, and let it creep into every aspect of it, very annoying.

Quote from JK Rowling's official site regarding the ban issue: "Once again, The Harry Potter books feature on this year's list of most-banned books. As this puts me in the company of Harper Lee, Mark Twain, J.D. Salinger, William Golding, John Steinbeck, and other writers I revere, I have always taken my annual inclusion on the list as a great honor. 'Every burned book enlightens the world' - Ralph Waldo Emerson"

Hmm...she doesn't seem to mind much. That is true though, a lot of classic books make the burn list just because they're considered controversial...and people eat that crap up. So sure...some stupid old lady thinks that Harry Potter undermines God...doesn't sound like a problem to me. Let the banned books keep enlightening our world...we all know it's the good books that DON'T get banned that we should worry about.

Can you be intelligent, ever?

Personally as a (former) Christian and a lover of the books, I think this woman and everyone else who wants these books banned is batshit out of their minds. It's just like banning other forms of media.

The majority of books that are banned are worth reading.

I think this woman is crazy like I said before. My post however was not 'anti-christian' really, it was more or less anti-idiotswhothinkwithoutspeakingmuchlikedouchebagcongressmenfromvirgina.

People hate that which they do not understand.
First, people fear what they don't understand and hate what they fear.

Now, This lady seems to just be one of those people who hate something, wants to get it off the face fo the earth and tries to keep people from recieving these things. An example of this is Jack Thompson and Video Games. She does seem extreamly bias, and saddly, like most people, will never keep an open mind over this kind of stuff, and will keep trying to get what they want at the cost of everyone else's beliefs.

What I don't get is why she has to make everyone else in the world care. I mean sure...she doesn't like Harry Potter and the 'witchcraft' ideas it promotes...then don't effing read them, you hag! No reason to make the rest of the world hear your stupid opinion and make them all hate you just because you don't like what you didn't have to read in the first place. I get that she has freedom of speech...but that doesn't mean that the rest of us care about what her speech entails. Some things you should just keep to yourself.

Well, no. If she doesn't like the Harry Potter books simply because they're not her cup of tea, it'd be different. But, she believes that they are harmful. It seems like a good idea to me to let people try and save others from harm, be they wrong or not. I don't believe the books pose a threat, but, hypothetically, were she correct and succeeded in banning the books, she would maybe prevent some children from being harmed.
