!@#$% right?
!@#$% NO!

NEW UPDATE!!!

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t89WwcsOj9U" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t89WwcsOj9U</a>

Update: Bell Canada and TELUS (formerly owned by Verizon) employees officially confirm that by 2012 ISP's all over the globe will reduce Internet access to a TV-like subscription model, only offering access to a small standard amount of commercial sites and require extra fees for every other site you visit. These 'other' sites would then lose all their exposure and eventually shut down, resulting in what could be seen as the end of the Internet.

Dylan Pattyn *, who is currently writing an article for Time Magazine on the issue, has official confirmation from sources within Bell Canada and is interviewing a marketing representative from TELUS who confirms the story and states that (link)TELUS has already started blocking all websites that aren't in the subscription package for mobile Internet access.(/link) They could not confirm whether it would happen in 2012 because both stated it may actually happen sooner (as early as 2010). Interviews with these sources, more confirmation from other sources and more in-depth information on the issue is set to be published in Time Magazine soon.
What can we do?

The reason why we're releasing this information is because we believe we can stop it. More awareness means more mainstream media shedding light on it, more political interest and more pressure on the ISP's to keep the Internet an open free space. We started this social network as a platform for Internet activism where we can join forces, share ideas and organize any form of protest that may have an impact. If we want to make a difference in this, we have to join together and stand united as one powerful voice against it.

Join the movement.

Don't let the Internet evolve to this:

I feel like saying that I really do not care what happens in Canada, if cakefarts gets elected this could be avoided in the United States, and at least in my case I have seen so much pornography in the span of a few years to the point where it is all boring and repetitive it loses its value.  I am actually kind of ashamed of myself for liking such smut.  I could better occupy my time by reading books on philosophy or physics.

Another update? Confirmred!?

Damn $#!% greed!

First the sky-rocketing prices of fuel, now this!?

Seriously, if this happens for real...what the heck am I meant to do about my music software? Purchasing new plug-ins and such, so much for wanting my own website to put my original songs on.

What about band websites? Game websites? Game companies? Small Businesses? Far too many websites are going to suffer for this. So if this is going into time magazine, hopefully it'll spread the word.

Anyway I'm glad you put this up Ryan, otherwise I would have never of heard about this threat.

hmmm If you ask me most of the internet services will include this, meaning that you will not feel you are paying much, but if it is not like how I think then it sucks, and yes it will affect many small sites but again probably in the lowest package it will include many of the small sites, like this one for example, I have been doing some research on how it will affect Mexico and there is really that much to talk about, my only guess is that the internet services will include certain webpage depending in how much you normally pay, but again I really doubt it will affect that much people will always find a way to stop this, again I find it wrong w hat they are doing and I hope this is not allowed, since Internet is the only way to express yourself with the world.

"Speculation"

This whole thing is just because Warner decided to have an internet service that charges for extra bandwidth usage beyond a specified limit. Same speculation that says RFID will take over the world. Same speculation that says global cooling will cause a new ice age.

Sorry, it's propaganda to support a flawed movement.

Agreed.  Not to mention the anti-trust issues associated with it.

<sarcasm>I personally think this is an excellent idea!</sarcasm>

I mean think about all the negative effects it would have on the GLOBAL economy, the nation's education, the media industry, and pretty much every aspect of life in our current generation. People would have to be complete idiots to think that this is a good idea. I'm all for limiting the internet; it's called security features built in most modern day browsers to protect our computers from malicious websites. I just hope the people who ultimately decide the outcome of the internet realize how important of a tool it is for everybody.

Personally I am not too worried about this happening though. I mean who's going to stop someone from opening up a new internet service provider that offers access to the entire internet for a cheaper price than the competitors. The government? That will be the day I leave the United States for somewhere that actually still has common sense.

This whole idea is idiotic.

There would be a huge class-action lawsuit from the millions of webmasters around the globe that are pissed that nobody can see their sites. There is no way this would happen.

What about the number of pissed off internet users? I know without small websites, I wouldn't care to keep using the internet, that and the fact that there would be no way of starting my own personal website. Even if this gets passed, too many companies would suffer, crippling the global economy, and thus causing all sorts of chaos around the world.

This well-known illustration of why we need net neutrality turns out to be very close to the truth:

Fake if you ask me.  I mean, for the $49 deal you get Google, but what for?  It's not like there are gonna be any sites for you to search for, which makes Google = pointless, pretty much.

Also, I'm just gonna stay idle until something like this happens, if it does.  There's nothing to do now if you ask me.  But if they succeed on doing this, that's when we march the streets and boycott their asses.
