Graphics / Katamari Damacy Models
« on: October 18, 2008, 03:46:53 pm »

Over the course of the day I've modeled, rigged, animated, and textured Dashing Prince and a Katamari. I feel special. n_n

http://www.wanilla.net/random/katamation/

Use Unity Player to orbit around the model, change animations, and zoom in/out. (Will update later to include the Katamari as well)

Honestly, why can't political campaigning be like this anymore?

Holy !@#$%, Video Games Live is in Boston this year. In other words, I could get on the train a mile from my house and arrive at Video Games Live in less than an hour. Now I just need to find money for tickets. :D

Graphics / 3D Figure and Animation Test

I made a simple little 3D figure, and a fun animation to go with him

Smaller window = less artifacts. Damn FLV player. :P

Entertainment / Help me pick an HDTV
« on: September 21, 2008, 11:28:22 pm »
Hey guys. I got a small boon in cash recently and I want to buy an HDTV for my PS3. Problem is, I don't know which TV to choose. O_o

I'm looking for something 19'' or higher. Less than $400, preferably closer to $350. It has to be good for gaming (good sound and picture). I really could care less about actually watching high-def TV on it.

I figure you guys probably have small HDTVs for all of your 360s, so help me out. ;)

EDIT: Also, realized that this might be better in Tech Talk. :\

Woohoo, finally, the amazing free update to Burnout: Paradise is dated. Burnout Bikes is coming to PSN and Xbox Live on September 18th, next Thursday.

Burnout Bikes will include four motorcycles, with male or female riders; a full day-night cycle with options for its cycling speed; a weather system; new Burning Ride events, which turn into new Midnight Ride events at night; 70 new Freeburn Online challenges.

:D I'm officially excited.

Yeah, sharing an internet connection (thus IP address) with an immature middle-schooler can suck sometimes. At least it's only a day (and I have a proxy).

Graphics / Playing with Blender's Fluid-sim
« on: September 06, 2008, 12:06:45 am »

APNG. Get Firefox or Opera, seriously. Even Chrome can't play this greatness.

My first time using Blender's fluid simulation. It's not too complex, but I think it'd take a while before I can make something that actually looks really nice.

Also, sorry for the black background. Doing it as an APNG was an afterthought, and if I had planned ahead I'd have made it transparent.

Graphics / MECHTOPUS

Click for Blueprints

Once upon a time, a scientist named Professor Harris was researching marine life. He built a submersible so that he could reach the darkest depths of the ocean. What he saw there was that every creature he encountered had a deep and unparalleled fear of the mighty octopus. Then his submersible was dragged to the depths by an octopus and he was never heard from again. Fortunately his research survived, and details of the power of the might octopus were put into print...

Years later, Harris's son decided to find his father's shipwreck, as he believed that his father is still alive. However, a normal submersible would be attacked by octopi just as his father's was. To this effect, Harris Jr. created MECHTOPUS, who can otherwise be described as a Mechanical Fire-snorting Octopus. Mechtopus has the powers of advanced camoflauge and underwater firebreathing. With Mechtopus, surely Harris will be rescued from what could otherwise be a watery grave!

Vote MECHTOPUS in Mr. Forum's Soul Contest '08 to find out how he saves his creator's father!

Entertainment / Crazy Taxi 3
« on: August 26, 2008, 10:01:10 pm »
Yep, the first XBOX game I actually bought (the other four I have were gifts). After playing it for all of 10 minutes, I am ready to give my initial analysis.

West Coast: It's the city from the first Crazy Taxi, except with nicer graphics and redesigned to have new areas and take advantage of the crazy hop ability. Here you play as Gus, Gena, BD Joe, or Axel. Pretty sweet. :D

Small Apple: It's the city from the second Crazy Taxi, except with nicer graphics and it's night time. Here you play as Slash, Iceman, Cinnamon, or Hot-D. Cool enough. :)

Glitter Oasis: It's a brand new city, based on Vegas. It's got some areas with shiny lights and neon, and others that are in the middle of the desert. Here you play as new characters Bixbite, Mrs. Venus, Zax, or Angel. Slows down when you're in the most heavily-lit areas of the city. :(

Crazy X: Compared to Crazy Box and Crazy Pyramid, Crazy X looks neat and has at least double the minigames that the Box or Pyramid had. n_n

Soundtrack: Every song from Crazy Taxis 1 and 2, plus a few new songs by the same artists.

Bottom Line: Grab this game if you're a fan of the first two. It's like both of them combined with extra goodies to go along with that.

Other Projects / [VIDEO] Superstar Galaxy
« on: August 25, 2008, 07:04:31 pm »
Hey everyone! If you're wondering why I haven't been working on Kirby's Rebound much, look no further. Superstar Galaxy will be a top-down space shooter game spanning three solar systems, with outer space levels as well as in-atmosphere levels! The full game will retail for five US dollars.

You play as Bell, a friendly young Catherdo alien who sets out on a journey to find his missing parents. However around the same time, a mysterious figure claiming to be the Galaxy King wraps a cold grasp around the depths of space. Can you save your parents and stop the Galaxy King?

This is a robot that analyzes the video data from the screen and plays Guitar Hero. It's not perfect, but it'd beat me. ;__;

Kinda old, from April. But I had never seen it before.

Entertainment / Crazy Taxi!
« on: August 19, 2008, 10:20:20 pm »
I recently remembered that I had Crazy Taxi for my Dreamcast. I've been playing it a bunch, so I decided to get some more Crazy Taxi games! Fortunately I found some great deals too.

Crazy Taxi 2 - Dreamcast - 6 dollars
Crazy Taxi 3 - XBox - 6 dollars

I didn't pay anything for faster shipping, because I don't really care when they get here. :P

Feedback / Database Listing Order
« on: August 14, 2008, 01:02:08 am »
Yeah, the order that entries in the various databases are listed is oldest-to-newest. It definitely needs to be flipped around be default. To make it worse, you can flip it yourself, but the site won't remember and will have immediately flipped it back by next time you load that page.

Entertainment / Burnout Paradise Updates
« on: August 12, 2008, 08:53:22 pm »
Last month's release of the Cagney update brought some new vehicles and a new sense of polish to Burnout Paradise. This month they're releasing the Davis update that adds Motorbikes, Day and night, and a weather system to Paradise City. Then there's the upcoming Eastwood update that adds a whole new island to the game. And they're all free.

Criterion must love the world or something. :D
