So I remixed a Zelda song. Cat-style. I did the vocals I guess. Then ... remixed. In other news, I have a disgusting amount of free time and am most likely insane. ;__;

So Q.K. cooled down and is sticking around for a while at least because he might end up posting some info about a new Binary Phoenix project. In any case, preamble aside, in the meantime Q.K. has been trying out some artwork... here's what happened. C&C?

Hey guys, I won't take too much time with this. Figured I'd do this in the sounds/music forum considering I spend most of my time here anyways.

I want to clear a few things up before I get started. First off - hawthorneluke, skully, sjegtp, kren, helios, wombat, dayjo, you guys have all been great.
uma - I've never really had a problem with you. I don't know why, but I was mostly just venting on you - there's nothing personal there.

Now - I said I'd keep this short and I will. I've been thinking of leaving here recently and I guess now's the time. There's not much to keep me coming back here. Might as well use my 500th post in the sounds forum eh?

I'll be on MSN and stuff, posting videos on youtube, and uploading photos over at DeviantArt if anyone cares.

Alright. So I've been looking to get some work writing music. There probably isn't much of a market for it here, but I figured I would try anyways. I've recently updated my site, so feedback on that is cool too. Thanks for checking things out.

By the way, this is paid work.

So basically Phoenix Wright is awesome. And so I did this. XD

(Maybe I have too much free time? XD)

EDIT: He's about 5 inches in real life. A little flimsy, but I used light paper instead of a thicker cardboard-type of paper.

Audio / TOMC Poll #2
« on: July 14, 2007, 07:11:41 pm »
Alright, sorry guys for the long delay in posting the next poll! ;__; Anyways, here's the next match-up, CoNfUsEd_GaMeR vs. sjegtp.

Sunrise

"You wake up with a yawn, as the sun crawls over the horizon, painting the landscape in a warm, orange tone..."

CoNfUsEd_GaMeR: <a href="http://www.fendez.com/downloads/sunrise.mid >Click to Listen
    * These days I'm hardly ever able to sleep properly....I spend the whole night trying...in and out I go of consciousness....but look, it's getting light already
    * This time of day is eerie, so peaceful and quiet, as if it is equally likely to be the end of the day as the beginning
    * Looking round, I see soldiers sleeping...the smoke of campfires struggling to keep alive...
    * ...but who's that, there's someone walking into the generals quarters...I don't recognise that uniform...it almost looks like the uniform of the........"
    * ATTACKERS!! Wake everyone up, rally them to their arms! I shout instructions at the top of my voice
    * The enemy scout panics and runs back through the entrance of the camp, back towards the advancing army
    * "Ready men" shouts the commander - we stand in line, chests out and stomachs in, girding shields and brandishing our swords
    * The archers take their positions, and we wait....they're getting closer, coming at a steady march
    * Commander gives a stirring speech
    * We charge at them
    * Men are slaughtered from all sides, everywhere blood is spilt
    * There's so many of them...but we will keep fighting..to the end!
    * So many of them...
    * I'm outnumbered, it's just me left....they're all around me...but I'll keep fighting, everywhere...fighting...everywhere....swords....fighting...maces....everywhere...axes....uhh

sjegtp: <a href="http://www.members.sjegtp.binaryphoenix.com/Sunrise1.mid >Click to Listen
You wake up with a yawn, as the sun crawls over the horizon, painting the landscape in a warm, orange tone... and you have that peaceful feeling that you would be starting one more day of your life...
But no. You remembered that the world of today is not the world of yesterday anymore. The world's changed. It changes everyday, but this day is special. And the world will never return to what it was yesterday.
Then you stand up, walk towards the window and stare horrified at what is left from the world... and you have that awful feeling of emptyness... Although you have no idea of what's to come, you have an awful pressentiment and anxiety for the future... and there is no coming back... But worst of all is that... you realize that while you stare at the window, lost in your thoughts; time is passing, and the feared future is coming...
But it is still dawn... you still have some time... you realize that you can still do something, but if you don't rush... the world will become even worse than what it has become...

So I was just playing around with some drums in FL, when I decided to put down some random bass line... then of course it all went downhill from there and I had to chuck in a bunch of other stuff and make a song out of it. XD I wanted to end it differently, but I just got lazy and decided to finish it. Tada... btw, it's my first time writing this kind of music :P

Entertainment / Cave Story DS Port
« on: July 09, 2007, 06:45:48 pm »
So originally this port was going to be for the GBA, but the person porting it decided to take advantage of the DS's hardware and other features so they switched the port to the DS. All I can say is "!@#$% YEAH" (seaking). Cave Story is one of the best games I've played in a while. Go play it now (it was originally made for the PC).

There's a demo here at the site with a .nds file. That should be alright with mods I hope, because it's a free game, and the original creator of Cave Story has given the thumbs up for the port. Anyways, try out the demo. It's not much yet, but it still manages to capture the feeling of Cave Story. The link to the .nds is right under the title.

Can't wait to play this when it's done.

So I was messing around on the piano and decided to try remixing some Zelda stuff. Here's what I got. Btw, this is all played live, and it's improv. I recorded it through my keyboard and added some backing sounds and stuff.

Characters / Bakudan!!!
« on: July 02, 2007, 08:09:33 am »
Secret Service Documents
Name: Bakudan
File Category: Inexplicable Entities
Case Study: QK9-MUS9
Confinement Level: High Security Solitary Confinement
Data Protection Level: Top Secret

Case study QK9-MUS9 has proven to be quite the difficult subject. We have however, managed to confine a healthy specimen. Code named “Bakudan”, we have been observing and monitoring its progress while under solitary confinement. This particular specimen appears to be extremely volatile when pressured or irritated. While research data is still inconclusive, we have gathered that it is a new species of highly volatile creatures. The following info is top secret, and should not be disclosed to those outside the S.S.

We have here below us, exhibit A. This is the only one in captivity. We have code named him “Bakudan”.

Exhibit A

Below exhibit A is an extremely important piece of data. It would appear that it was in fact a member of the QK9-MUS9 species that caused the 9/11 incident. Due to the nature of this information, it is essential that this document be kept in complete secrecy. Damn conspiracy theorists.

Exhibit B

As you can see, it is of utmost importance that these documents never be revealed nor released to the public. We shall continue to examine this species for more answers.

Terminating data input… Exit: Y/N? Y… terminating application...

Recruitment / Looking for vector illustrator
« on: June 30, 2007, 03:02:43 am »
So I'm just looking around to see if there are any people that can do vectors, because I want to get a custom t-shirt done. I've got a concept sketch of what I'm thinking of already, I just need someone that can take it further, and do a better/cleaner job of it.

Here's the concept sketch I did... kind of bad, but whatever :P

EDIT: By the way, I'm thinking of something like this kind of stuff:
http://www.threadless.com//product/742/zoom.gif
http://www.threadless.com//product/231/zoom.gif
http://www.threadless.com//product/512/zoom.gif

EDIT 2: Just figured I would make some details clear about the drawing. These have to be vectored and under 5 separate colours. I'm thinking a kind of monochrome type look, with a few shades of blue, maybe white and red for the accent. The waves were inspired by Hokusai's "Great Wave" piece, so that's a perfect reference for them and possible colour choices. The sun is of course the military Japanese flag, so a good accent of red here would be good. The plants on the bottom right can be greenish or blue, that's up to you... the gate there is technically red, but I don't know how having that red would do for composition. Play around with it, see what looks good. Might be nice to fill that circle with the kanji in red. That's about all I can think of... oh. The Koi... I was thinking it could just be mostly outlines, maybe some shading here and there. It's up to you. Thanks for reading these suggestions/requests.

Audio / TOMC Poll #1
« on: June 26, 2007, 11:23:19 pm »
Ok, so on top of being busy, I haven't quite gotten all the songs yet, and there are some songs with... dead links. So in the next few days I'll round those up. For now, here's the first match, Dayjo vs. Uma.

The Mountain

"You reached the Second Base Camp late last night.
The air is thin and the wind is cold, but it's all worth it.
The land pans out beneath you for miles; you can barely see the villages below you.
It's time to start climbing.
You gather up your gear, secure your harness, and start to climb.
At an altitude this unforgiving, one small mistake could be the end.
As you climb, you hear the grinding of ice and a yell..."

Audio / Thematic Original Music Competition - TOMC #1
« on: June 07, 2007, 01:05:07 am »
Thematic Original Music Competition
As several users have expressed a desire for a music competition on ZFGC, I figured why not take advantage of the summer holidays to hold the competition.

What is it?
The thematic original music competition is an idea I borrowed from the OCRemix forums. Basically, contestants get a description of a situation or story that could be found in a video game, movie, book, etc. Contestants then write an original piece of music to fit the story. While some competitions have certain guidelines or rules to follow, being as this is the first TOMC here at ZFGC, it'll be more lenient.

Categories
Low-Fi: MIDI, Chiptunes, NES, etc. This is set up for people who do not have access to higher end programs such as FL Studio, Reason, Logic, Cubase, or other more advanced sound libraries. You are free to submit your songs without the sound quality being a factor in the judging.
Hi-Fi: This is set up for people who have access to higher quality sounds, and would like their work judged on things such as production quality, sound quality, etc.
These two categories will be separate from each other so as to be fair to both groups of people.

Themes
While normally in a typical TOMC there is only one theme to pick from, considering we have both a smaller amount of composers here, and that this is the first TOMC at ZFGC, I will allow for multiple themes to choose from. Both categories are free to pick from these themes. When you write your song, while it's not necessary, feel free to supply the ending or outcome of the story you chose.
1. The Inn
Your party, weary from having defeated a great evil, seeks shelter for the night. In the distance you spot a village. With a hazy mind, you slowly make your way towards the village. As you approach, you begin to feel drawn to the village. Someone calls your name. As you pass through the gates, you begin to feel a growing feel sense of dread.  Now inside the village, you realize in horror your mistake, but are unable to save yourselves...
2. The Mountain
You reached the Second Base Camp late last night. The air is thin and the wind is cold, but it's all worth it. The land pans out beneath you for miles; you can barely see the villages below you. It's time to start climbing. You gather up your gear, secure your harness, and start to climb. At an altitude this unforgiving, one small mistake could be the end. As you climb, you hear the grinding of ice and a yell...
3. Sunrise
You wake up with a yawn, as the sun crawls over the horizon, painting the landscape in a warm, orange tone...

Obviously with these themes there are varying degrees to which you can be creative. For example the first and second are rather specific, while the third is totally up to you - are you waking up to a cup of coffee, a cabin in the woods, or a battlefield? Feel free to be creative when writing the music.

Signup
1. FlashGX: Hi-Fi: The Inn
2. Confused_Gamer: Lo-Fi: Sunrise
3. Sjegtp: Lo-Fi: Sunrise
4. Dayjo: Hi-Fi: The Mountain
5. Uma: Hi-Fi: The Mountain
6. Gonzo: Hi-Fi: The Mountain
7. Obsequious Eye: Lo-Fi: Sunrise
8. Scooternew: Hi-Fi: Sunrise
9.
10.

You will be able to sign up until the 10th of June, at 12:00 AM Midnight CST. When signing up, please let me know which category, and theme you want.

Prize
"If ever a challenger wins over a fellow competitor, he or she will gain the people's ovation and fame forever" ... well, almost. Actually, there isn't a whole lot that can be offered, but if you happen to think of something, post it and I'll consider it.

Voting
Voting will take place in a series of polls. There will be the two categories being judged separately from themselves, for sound quality reasons stated above. If, while not likely, there are enough people, it will be even further divided into categories+themes. However, this is not likely considering we have 2 categories and 3 themes to choose from, and only a limited number of composers. Voting will take place once time for writing the music is up and all pieces are in.

Start Time and Deadline
I would request that you DO NOT start writing your songs until midnight on the 10th and signup is closed. As for a deadline, you will get up to 2 weeks - midnight on the 24th of June - depending on how fast entries come in. If all entries are received early, we will jump straight to polls.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, hopefully enough people will sign up and FOLLOW THROUGH with this. Good luck to all competitors.

Audio / - Foliage -
« on: May 13, 2007, 06:19:52 pm »
Ok, so with the CR soundtrack being done, I've decided to do another album. This time around, the music is going to be a more ambient approach, combining orchestral sounds with some electronic stuff. I'm thinking of doing about 15 tracks, yet the songs on this one are going to be a lot longer than CR, meaning the total length should be longer than the CR soundtrack, despite having less tracks. In any case, here's a list of songs that I'll be updating as I go. Feel free to comment, ask questions, whatever. Thanks

1. Foliage
2. Rainfall 3:00
3. Windchimes 2:20
4. Catfish 1:10
5. Waiting in the Rain
6. Clocktower 2:45
7. Chrysanthemum Palace 1:45
8. Village Lights 1:15
9. Midnight Train 1:00
10. Terra

7/10

EDIT: I shortened the list down... I can't write enough songs, haha. Anyways just 3 more then...

I'm sort of on a composing roll lately >__> I wrote a piano piece yesterday and then did this today. This one is a lot more ambient than most of my stuff... and it's over 2 minutes long. Heh, finally something decently long. Hope you like it..
