Do you prefer comprehensive, big tutorials/engines or simple, focused tutorials/engines for helping you with game development?

I prefer large tutorials personally; ones that are set up in chapters like www.xnatutorial.com and such.

That's great.  On a related note, since this is on the site and the News board is not public, rather than replying directly through the News board, can you just post via a comment on the site?  While it might not mean a lot, the site reading information off the forum is something that can go awry if it is not used properly, and others do not have that option of posting through the forum.

And in regard to the aforementioned question, the size and quality of an engine at least depends on the skill of the programmer who made it.  If it has a lot of features but is sloppy, then its usefulness is debatable, but if it is small and focused on one thing, it may be good for that one thing.

I'm going to agree there. I'm definitely more of a book kind of person... too

Neat.  And as I just got done saying, if the News board is going to be private, please make comments via the site itself rather than posting through the forum.  If posting through the forum would be easier, then perhaps measures could be taken to make that so, but meh, it's not like any ideas have come up about that.

But really, in regard to ZFGC in particular, a tutorial/engine is a double-edged sword.  A well-programmed, big tutorial/engine can make a would be developer lazy in that they would just use it as is.  I guess then that the size is not so much a factor, rather the way in which a tutorial/engine can be used and by whom it is used.

It feeds from here; it's all the same 4Sword, don't worry about it. Either way; I'd personally like to see a full on tutorials page here, but we need tutorial writers.

I prefer large tutorials broken down into focused ones. Not to sound annoying or anything. I guess I'll just say I like large ones.

I usually prefer smaller, focused tutorials. I like learning how to do things one piece at a time, and then applying them to a bigger puzzle. It's how I learned GML, and it's how I plan on learning C  .

I have to say I prefer learning from small well polished tutorials than big ones.
