Title: Metroid fan art
Post by: Eater on September 14, 2007, 08:40:18 pm
Well, one of my siblings got a camera for her birthday and is allowing me to use it, and I've recently been playing a lot of Metroid games, so I decided to make some fanart.  So here it is:

Samus (http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/1103/samusartqr3.jpg)

Spider ball (http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/4107/spiderballartbp1.jpg)

That won't be the last of it.  Feel free to speak your mind, or whatever.

[Mod edit: If you don't have anything nice or constructive to say, don't say anything at all]

[Drills edit: I did have nice constructive things to say. Sure I said it was retarded... But I didn't just stop there. I said it was only retarded because it is in Chibi Style. I also said I could tell he is a great artist and that he should do more realistic drawings. I seriously hate the moderation here...]

I think its pretty badass...

The looking like it was taken a picture of look looks really nice with the style of the drarwings. All sketchamafatated and stuff... I like it! :3

Moldrill - Meh, I've never been too good at drawing anything too realistic, and realistic drawings tend to bore me anyway(which may be why I like TWW's art style more than I like TP's).  Besides that, I wanted to make it have a more humorous, silly feel rather than the semi-dark style Metroid games seem to have.  For example, the Spider ball is actually a spider that can shoot webs rather than Samus curled up into a ball.

But the ones I'll be making for the ending of my fan game will be a bit more realistic, or a normal anime-ish style.

Uma - lol.  I don't really like the quality of the picture, but this camera is all I have to work with.  The problem with it is that I can't fit much of the picture in without it looking blurred and crappy.

Thanks for the comments.

I like your logic, Eater. Why draw realistic when thats what we see all the time? A face for example- we all know what a face looks like realistically because we see faces all the time, so why draw a face with the same exact shading principals or same exact proportions?

Right.  That's why, from now onward, I'm going to leave faces out of all of my drawings.

I wasn't saying that! o_o

But its an interesting goal...

XD I hate realistic style in artwork. What I said came out completely wrong. I love drawing cartoony and everyone else should too (see chopik). I don't neccesarily like Chibi Style though. A cartoony Samus should not be a ball with a visor and feet and tiny arms. It should have a body and a head. Adding a body to that and longer arms and real legs would NOT make that realistic. It would make it cartoony in a good way.

Uma - I was joking. lol
Maybe I should try that though...

Moldrill - Sorry for misunderstanding.  I guess I could try a slightly different style than this, but I've always liked the simplicity of Kirby's Samus form in SSB, and decided it was best suited for the game I'm making.

In other news, I'm working on Ridley.

Is Ridley going to be a little ball with talons and a beak? ...Just kidding. ;)

No, lol.  I'm thinking of just fooling around and mixing some styles.  Fidley will still manage to be creepy, somehow.

Not bad, I like arts in the direction of Chibi! Next time use a scanner (if you don't have one, go to a friend/copy shop)

I meant your sig.

Also that drawing is awesome! The first one is far better. I love it. But... Is that supposed to be Ridley...? Or when you said Fidley you actually meant there is a boss named Fidley!?

I didn't realise I mispelled his name. lawlz.

I figured people might be bored of the usual sci-fi metal dragon thing, so I tried to mix that with something similar to Majora's Mask and other random things.  And I like the axe-tail design more than the original.  His arm and feet will also make for new attacks in the game.

Thanks.

Definitely the first one. But it's hawt. Too hawt for your low quality Metroid game. If you want me to support your game AND Metroid chibi. Make it in 3D and make Samus like your art. The game graphic is a ball. The art actually has feet and arms. Just very small feet and arms. If you can't do 3D... Who know. Maybe I can help you someday and remake it in 3D. :)

Maybe for my birthday I could spend a few bucks on some 3D making program or register Game Maker and learn how to do 3D, but I feel I've done too much work on this project already to start over. lolz.  But you can remake it on your own if you want, I don't really care. :P

What are your other projects?

Hahahaha. Just the top 3 or the whole hundred thousand? :P Naw. I don have too many games. But quite a few... Unfortunately for you they are secret. Most of them will be sold for 5 dollars. www.wanilla.net is our site. Moldorma, Me, Soapy, and Blue Chu Jelly are the staff. We just started which is why hardly anything works. We are working on Sky Sky Panic 3D right now. Free game. For more info on Sky Sky Panic check out the Completed Projects. :-*

Ah, I see.  I'll have to check that out when I have $5s.  :P

Anyway, I'm not sure if this could be considered art, but it has my art in it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2WT4s-jDdc

If you can't tell what is going on(and I wouldn't blame you, the camera totally funked the pictures up, and so did paint when I tried to edit them), Samus finds a distress signal coming from the planet Sun and goes to see what it is about.  When she attempts to land, a rogue turret spots her ship and destroys it.

Samus herself still lands at her destianation, though, and that's the beggining of the story for my fan game for now.

Actually I am starting to doubt I will be able to add this to my projects. Sorry but it's not even my idea and it can't make me money. :D

Meh, I don't care. lulz
I'll still be working on it myself anyway.

why does your sig look like Samus is topless with lines across her breasts?

I already asked. But I said avatar instead of signature and he just ignored me about that after I corrected myself.

Nah, I just forgot.  And I don't know why, but I'll put better arts up when I can.

Well, I guess because I was finally able to finish both MP1 and 2(both with 75 % items, and around 16-17 hours), I've been inspired to draw more.  I did some differentish styles this time, though, so tell me which you like best and maybe I'll change the scenes for my game a little:

Chibi Samus (http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/926/chibisamusmd4.jpg)

Normal-ish Samus (http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/6610/normalsamuslf0.jpg)

Another Samus (http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/8642/curvysamusyq2.jpg)

Dark Samus (http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/3163/darksamusfn3.jpg)(this one probably won't be in the game period)

And Dark Link, just because (http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/6997/darklinkartuj3.jpg)

You're actually pretty darn good at art. ;) Although it looks like you're using a crayon, which is blotching your detail and making your lines a bit thick..

I'm sure you're great at drawing, but I dislike the quality! I know this is a bit of a... dumb post... but I'd like to have the quality improved.
Title: Re: Metroid fan art
Post by: Eater on September 28, 2007, 05:24:06 am
I dislike the quality, too, but seeing as I have no money, nor a job, and I have to wait two months or so for my birthday, there's nothing I can do.  :(
Thanks though.  :P

As for the coloring, I'm using colered pencils, but I think I'd rather continue not coloring my drawings, like I usually do.  Expect more in a week or two.

OK, I got some new stuff, and colored it just for the hell of it.

Just another Samus (http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/1092/omgitssamushp6.jpg)

Samus vs Dark Samus (http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/9038/samusvsdarkaj2.jpg)

New suit design (http://img159.imageshack.us/img159/1067/newsuiths8.jpg)

I'm thinking of doing some areas from my fangame soon enough.

Sorry for the bump.  It's probably already obvious, but I am Eater.  The only reason I'm using this account is because I forgot my password, and it seems like I can only get the password for this account sent back to me.

Anyway, I figured I'd start a comic if anybody likes it:
