Harvest Moon: Snowlit Dreams
Why I Wanted to Make This Game
It started as a joke between me and my friend rogueyoshi(Al in real life :p). I was saying that there weren't any more good HM games coming out, just a bunch of sub-par 3D games that didn't give the "feel" of that old school HM goodness. But after a while, I began doodling/writing during class(BORING) about how my game would be if I were to make it. Soon I had a whole book of information regarding the game, and I then made the decision that I should actually make it. I loved HM too much NOT to do it, I guess :p
The Main Plot
This game centers around a person whos father and grandfather were killed in a car crash. This person recieves this news coming back from a late shift at work, where he was fired the same day. After going to the funeral, his mother, which is very fragile thanks to the events that followed up to the funeral, gives him one request.
Take the land that your two lost ones have worked so hard to buy, and make it worthy of being called "ours".
What You Should Expect
This game will be a remake of this first HM game to come out, which was for the SNES. Some people ask me why I wanted to remake this one, and not a newer HM game. This is because the first was the purest HM game, with nothing but pure fun implemented. When the others came out, they strayed away from the main purpose/engine, thus making the game boring in some areas. This is also my favorite HM game, so tough :3
Gameplay Modifications
This is a basic list of what I'm putting in the game. If you want to add to this list, then post with suggestions :p

As you can see, all of the characters are from the original zfgc. These are good friends of mines through TCP/IP, and thats why they are in it. <_<
Other Minor Info
- 27 New seeds
- Redrawn BGs
- Online Stats Tracker (?)
- Three New Animals (So far)
This is what I've got. Comment freely on it, and before anyone asks for any spots, It is a solo project :[
-
Maybe give a little more info on it,
I started a harvest moon game once, I made the whole engine, then got bored of it.
-
if you want i couldt make some sprites.
-
Updated. Post your comments
-
I once was going to make a harvest moon game but I couldn't think of anything different to add. (Except a child that acctually grows up but that idea was stolden along time ago) seeing how it says: "Remake of the origanal hm game" will you be able to get married and what graphic style is it going to be in. ( I suggest HM 64)
-
If your suggesting I do it in 3D, then I salute you for giving impossible ideas D:
I'm planning on redoing the sprites, but not just a palette change, but the sprites in my own style. Trust me, It'll look prettiful :p
-
Harvest moon 64 wasn't 3d. It was rendered 3d then put into 2d sprites. You can see this when you use the rotational camera.
-
An update:
Now that I am working of the website for the game, what submenus and what style do you think I should do the site in? I was planning on doing it in flash with the following menus:
Story
Characters
Multimedia
Features
Links
About
Contact Me
The main page was supposed to be of a picture I specifinally drew for the website, and when you click on it, it launches the main flash window. Problem is, I'm going for compatibility, and I know that not everyone on the internet has flash.
Comments plox.

Well if you're gonna start it in 3d I don't think you'll get far I haven't seen even a 2d HV fangame got finished. And how many things you'll add won't make it easiyer.

Its not really there fault that they can't finish them though. HM games are SO boring to make. I think I'd finish an Oot2d before I could finish a simple HM game.
-
lol you're right I could finish OOT with my eyes closed and only 3 heart containers faster then someone finished a normal HV game! :P
-
Well thats the difference between me and others. I'm GOING to finish game, even if it takes a lifetime(I doubt that >_>). Not to mention that with the stuff I'm adding, It'll make it fun to see how it turns out.
People make simple HM engines and quit because they've made something already done, but when you add a wardrobe system, things change ALOT. Not that a wardrobe system is all I'm adding, but it was just an example >_<

Probaly but if you can get married in your game make it hard to get married. AWL marriage was way to easy and FoMT was to simple.(The girls said two things once you we're married)

At the moment I am creating a trailor for the game and music for it. The musics being done in Fruity Loops and the trailor should be done before mid-July.
Wish me luck D:
-
In order to keep myself from rushing the demo/trailer, and end up making a poor quality product, I will NOT be releasing anything until the next z3. This game is going to take up a lot to time to complete, so I'm guessing the entire thing will be finished around 2008-09. Yes, it is a long time to wait, but I want to assure that this is an actual game you can play for a good 70 hours, and not just some 30 minute romp.
I'll update this topic when I am close to finishing my trailer
edit: I added some beta drawings of the characters
-
i whas just abiout to whine about grave diggin when i saw that it whas the topic starter who had posted :P
-
Yeah, this topic was pretty deep into the board >_>
Just thought I'd show people that I am actually working on it, and that this didn't die. At the moment this project is STILL solo, but if I ever decide I need help, this'll be the first place for me to turn to.
-
i like those characters ^___^ they need sme work but thre ok
4Sword Edit: Do not gravedig.
-
Good luck on this, it's no small feat!
-
Harvest Sun, I'm sorry to tell you this, but the last update was in mid-August... this game is dead :'(.
-
Its not dead, its not being updated until I have something worthy to post. >_>
I'm still working on it guyz D:
-
I haven't updated this page in a while.
For anybody who still cares about this game, let it be known that I'm still working on it, just not the coding section. I'm doing things like getting family trees, storyline, drawings, and all that jazz together. I thought that'd it be nice to show everyone the overview that I'm currently working on to:
a) give everyone an idea of how to plan your games
b) show how detailed I'm trying to get with this game
The link to the overview is: http://www.sendspace.com/file/wm49rn (http://www.sendspace.com/file/wm49rn) , so go right ahead and download it, then come back and give me some ideas or feedback.
And to let you know the situation in terms of goals, I still do not know how to sprite, neither do I know C/C++. I'm still learning how to code, and I'm not sure if I'll just hire somebody else to work on my game. Either way, the actual making of the game isnt going so well. The preproduction however is going smoothly. I'm also working on getting hosting so I'll have a site to post all my projects on. Hopefully by the end of the year, I'll have started on coding my game.
-
Well, I hope things go well for you. I know the whole feeling of trying to do everything yourself.
-
:ganon: looks fun
