What programming language to YOU use?

I'm just curious to know, I use several different program languages.
Like BYOND, GML, and Action Script. (Still learning the basics of Action Script. (2.0 and 3.0))

So.. yeah, what type of programming languages do you guys use?  (If any)

I make programs in C++ because it is a part of my college work and I make games in Game Maker because I am not fully able to do otherwise.

Funny thing is, each one of the things you listed are scripting languages, and not programming languages :P...

Anyway; I have my staff use C#

I mainly use C++, and C# these days. There are many others that I know but do not use day-to-day.

Mammy's right, those are all application-specific scripting languages.

In terms of application development, I use C++ and C#. When it comes to things like web development, I'll use ASP.NET when available (through C#), or I'll use PHP. Within games I make, I like to develop small, simplistic scripting systems that are specific to the particular project I'm developing, that will give me easy-access debugging systems.

Like Jerry, I know a broad spectrum of languages, including several BASIC variants (not that those are hard to come by), Java, ActionScript 3.0, limited bits of Python, Lua, and several other scripting languages.

Er, well I've had experiance in more or less any language you care to mention. Which ones I use depends on the project I'm working on, and how lazy I want to be.

GML, although I want to learn C#, and then possibly C++. The only problem is I'm lazy :P, I find it much eaiser to get the results I want quickly in GM rather than use that time to teach myself C#.

I used to be fairly fluent in BASIC (yeah, BASIC) and somewhat knowledgeable in Java, but I have given those up since programming just isn't my cup of tea anymore.

BTW, my little sister was born on my post count.

How hard is it to learn these languages? None of you are particularly old and some of you know tons (Infini).

A programming language's difficulty depends on you, and can only truly be described relative to other languages. And even then, it depends on styles (C-style, markup language, BASIC variant, et cetera).

I, for example, have a strong knack for picking up languages; Foreign languages and programming languages (and scripting languages) alike.

It also depends on how much you do to teach yourself. If you're just following along by the tutorials, rather than experimenting, learning by fire (Trial and Error are the best teachers), then you're not going to learn as well as somebody who tries !@#$%, breaks !@#$%, and learns to fix !@#$%.

I'm not sure about Infinitus or any of the others, but I started at a very young age (at 8 years of age). The one thing found in all languages is programming logic. If you comprehend and can make use of programming logic, then almost every language will be very easy to pick-up because they are all essentially the exact same thing.

As for learning the first language; a lot of hard work and dedication is required if you want to learn quickly. A lot of what Minalien described applies here. You need to jump right in and start screwing around with things.

Basic, GML, Javascript, C/C++, Actionscript(2.0)

And I'm going to use C++ a lot this year and years to come.
