Lets face it, development can be slow and hard work. I'm just wondering how you all motivate yourself to facing it at times.

I have a great, albeit unhealthy, method:
I get a 1 litre bottle of Boost or Red Rooster (both of which are basically cheap red bull) to drink.
Then, I point the web-cam at myself and start recording.

The caffeine and knowledge that I am being watched stimulates me into sticking to the work without distractions.

Coming up with new things to code and make that would seem fun.  That's always fun.~

Simple. If your not excited about your project then you won't be motivated. Find something to excite you about your game, if you can't find something else to do for a while and maybe come back to it later.

That means I need to start interactive naked woman to all my game ideas...Thanks for the advice!

Seriously, I get more foucsed by creating a problem and then solving it on paper first with pencil.
Then I can fix anything that has errors in my designs before I input them into my pc.

But when it's all designed perfectly, the typing it up becomes mind numbing.
Plus I can get distracted easily.
The caffeine seems to stop anything and everything becoming mind numbing, and the knowledge I'm being watched stops me becoming distracted.

It's also how I get through exams and essays. Down a litre of Red Rooster before-hand, and the test goes flying by in a caffeine-induced blur or A*s. It is scarily effective with me :P

My way is an odd one. Have more games to work on. That way when your get tired from one, switch to another and work on that.

Also, playing the game yourself is rewarding :D

The only way to get my motivation back is a screen shot. Yeah. If I see a screen shot that I really like, it can be enough to motivate me.
Also, as Laigonaz said, working on a lot of projects can be a really good way to get some motivation.

lol profit

thats all I really have to say XD

Making games isn't all fun and games (no pun intended?)... It's hard freaking work if you're serious about it, and even if you're not motivated you still need to work on it... The big payoff is when you make a game good enough to sell; then all of your hard work is payed back in full + some more...

It's not all about money, but that's what should motivate you past the point of making your game abandonware :P

Being in a really boring lesson at school, or walking anywhere (yeah that works for me)

English is a personal favourite, can't stand poetry >.<

Other than that it's the fact that certain things can be done quickly, and others take time. I currently have an idea for making a singleplayer adventure out of WoW, using Mangos to emulate (not that I know if its possible yet though, I've only just got a personal server up and running for myself)
