I figured that the Sounds and Music area is a little dull, so I thought that a competion might bring some activity this way.

The Competition Has Begun!
THE DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES IS 27th OF NOVEMBER

Rules
  • You must re-make a piece of music, as close to the original as you possibly can.
  • The piece you re-make must have at least 3 parts. e.g. Vocals, Guitar, Drums etc...
  • The piece must be entirely your work. You can ask other people to perform, but you must direct the piece yourself.
  • You must submit both the original song and the re-make

You will be judged on
  • Sound quality (If live recording, the recording quality will be taken into account, if sequenced, sound fonts / effects etc)
  • Likeness to the original (how similar it is to the original piece).
  • Creativity (if your song contains vocals / live recording, this is good! So "songs" and live performances are prefered!)

Prizes
  • Currently just bragging rights, but I may make a nice little trophy thing to go in your sig :P

Finally
  • I will whittle the list down to the final two (if only 3 enter, 3), then there will be a public vote as to who wins.

I think I have an idea that might work. But. A couple questions.

1) Is game music kosher, or are you asking for 'real' songs?
2) I can probably only use MIDI and a guitar, plus or minus the guitar (really bad house for recording). Did you want actual instruments or will MIDI rips (minor post-processing) be fine?

Can you use programs like Garage Band? Though I don't have a mac anyway -_-, WHY DIDN'T MICROSOFT MAKE GArAGE BAND!!!

1) Yep absolutely. As I stated, it must have at least 3 parts, but all genres are welcome (VGmusic might be a little less... inspiring when it comes to the vote however)
2) MIDI is fine, we're trying to make it sound as similar to the original as pos. If you want to sequence it, but have no method of not using General MIDI, I'm sure I (or other contestants here) could aide you in converting it using sound fonts and such. Whatever :P

Yep you can, as long as the loops you use though were made by you, you'd have to sequence the loops yourself, rather than use the pre-made ones. But yeah you can use any software pretty much.
