Does anyone else think that MP's having the ability to vote themselves perks, is a serious erosion of democracy (lol, democracy in the UK), among other things >.>

Yeah, that's pretty !@#$% up. It's the main issue I have these days with parliament. THAT kinda thing should go to referendum; you really need proportional representation for it, not just the retarded "first past the post" system.

Besides that, even if an MP is elected on the platform to aim to keep MP's allowances down, they're not obliged to vote that way, and there's no way their electorate can hold them to it. :/

Basically Members of Parliment got to vote on how much they get paid.

I personally gave up on politics a long time ago, it's all about whose the best actor, who can tell the most believable lies.

The American equivalent of Parliament Members (name slips my head, been running a fever all day) can do the same, if I'm not mistaken.

Congressmen and Senators. Your parliamentary system is more complicated than ours: we have members of parliament, who preside over the house of commons, who are voted for by the public - the most popular from each constituency. Each bill must first be passed by the commons, then the house of lords (who are not popularly elected; some of the seats are nominated by the parties themselves and others are hereditary, or awarded by the queen). Once passed by both houses, the bill is law.

Same kinda thing works for congress and the senate, but it's a little bit weirder. Bleh.
