This is a Zelda fan community. Why the hell are there so many Nintendo bashers here?

Discussion / names
« on: December 01, 2008, 06:36:37 am »
I'm really rather terrible at coming up with names for characters in stories. Does anyone have any tips or genral method they follow in coming up with names for people? And if anyone's good at picking out names, right now I'm just hung up on trying to name this one average white guy in my story. I don't want his name to be anything really common like John or Michael, but something that's not too strange and that most people have heard before...

Entertainment / Repo! The Genetic Opera
« on: November 14, 2008, 07:56:11 am »
Holy crap where do I even start? Ok, I've been waiting for this movie since last year. It's directed by Darren Lynn Bousman of Saw fame (also from Overland Park, just south of where I live in Kansas City) and produced by the same studios as Saw. Repo is a gothic rock opera, and might I say it's one of the most badass things I've seen in a loooong time.

Right now, Darren and his co-creators are trying to garner enough support for the movie for a major theatrical release, but for now they're doing a small 8-town road tour. Kansas City was their 4th stop, and according to the site, the only three left are Pittsburgh, Atlanta, and Orlando. Though I hear Toronto was also added to the schedule, but I don't know if that show has passed or is coming up.

I just got back from seeing them today, and I got to meet Darren and the co-creator Terrance Zdunich (also stars in the movie as the grave robber. In the trailer, he's the one in the dumpster who says "take it slow.") They are such awesome people and I got a lot of !@#$% signed like the dorky little fanboy I am, and just the rush from the whole night has yet to go away. So, I highly suggest this film to anyone.

here's the trailer.

Oh, also, cookies to anyone who can guess who the woman with black hair who says "One more hit, for the show. Make it fast..." is played by.

Other Projects / [Completed] 1945 Starfox heck
« on: October 06, 2008, 06:21:17 am »
Yeah, this is the version of 1945 that's included with Game Maker... except I got bored one day and edited it to make it look and sound like Starfox. So if you've got time to kill, it's pretty interesting to check out.

Graphics / 3D character creator
« on: September 28, 2008, 03:35:15 am »
im not entirely sure if this goes in the graphic resources section, but i expect no one will rip my head off if it doesnt.

i was wondering if there was any kind of free character creation software similar to soulcalibur's character creator where i can work with 3d costume pieces and such to create concepts for characters in my stories. i have the free standalone city of heroes character creator, which is good for a lot of stuff, but not for medieval/renaissance garb like in soulcalibur. if i had any money i'd just buy SC4, but until then, does anyone know of anything i can use?

Graphics / spriting advice question
« on: February 22, 2008, 06:04:57 am »
i'm trying my hand at creating my own original sonic character, because it's late, i'm bored, and my cousin did it so i can too. (who cares if my cousin is 13 and i'm 18. to hell with maturity).

anyway, im spriting it in genesis style, actually editing the sonic sprites from sonic 3. it's going surprisingly well but i just can't get the eyes right.

no matter what change i do to the rest of the head, the eyes still look like sonic. how do i make them more feminine?

edit: i studied some other sprites and i think i may know what to do. don't ignore this question just yet though, because i still may need help later.

Entertainment / question about twilight princess
« on: November 25, 2007, 02:51:00 am »
i can't believe it took me over a year to get the game... lol. anyway i got to one part and i wanna know if anyone can help me figure this out.

*******BIIIIIG SPOILERS AHEAD*******

ok, so i got to the part where you go up to find the mirror of twilight and it shows the cutscene where the sages try to execute ganon. ganon fights back and annihilates one of the sages, right? then it shows all the sages on their little perches and pans to the one where no one's standing and the crest is broken. whose crest was that? i mean, which of the sages was killed?

EDIT: after looking over the seals from OoT, it looks like he killed the water sage, presumably still ruto (unless there were new sages since oot). has anyone else seen anything?

Graphics / Animations needed
« on: November 08, 2007, 07:30:44 pm »

ok, last time i asked for this it was a little premature. my initial sprite wasn't even done yet. now it is. What I need is for this character to be animated to be a main character in a platform shooter. I will definately make it worth your while (read on) and all due credit will be given. I'm an inexperienced spriter, and even just this standing sprite was hard enough to do. There's no way I could do all these animations myself.

Even if one person only does a few of the animations, that's cool, and someone else can do the others. It doesn't matter as long as it gets done. Everyone who contributes will be credited in my game, Candlelight Odyssey, as main graphic artists.

Each sprite frame should be no larger than 32x32. The animations I need are:

Idle/standing (done)
Walking
Climbing
Firing (9mm handgun)
Jumping/falling
Firing in midair
Sword attack (one handed, double-edged, somewhat long)
Punching (must be a bit quicker than sword attack animation)
Crouching
Being attacked (flinching, sort of)
Dead (just lying on ground)
Impaled on spikes (dont add the spikes, they're already part of the game. just sprite what she would look like if she landed on a bed of small spikes)

I'm putting built-in blood effects into my game, so it doesn't matter whether you draw any blood on the sprites or not.

In addition to being credited in my game, i can also compose a few original music tracks in midi format any time you want me to. Just specify what you need music for and I'll compose something cool. Also, I will further reward anyone who submits the sprites in animated gif form rather than a sprite sheet (but sprite sheet is just fine if you'd rather.)

If music doesn't interest you, then let me know and we can arrange something else. I'd like to be able to say I could pay for a job like this, but I just don't have the money. Still, this job will not go unrewarded for even a single person who contributes a pixel of work, so let me know and we'll negotiate.

Graphics / can i get some feet?
« on: November 08, 2007, 04:34:00 am »
ok, so here's my sprite so far

im doin a lot better than i ever thought i would, but i suck at spriting feet >.< she has no legs at all! it's hard to do with how i have it because the whole sprite from head to toe, when assembled is supposed to be no more than 32 pixels high, and anytime i get a foot looking decent, it's a big honking monstrosity that doesnt fit her or the image size. can someone help me out here?

Graphics / animation request
« on: November 06, 2007, 08:42:51 pm »

Could someone take this basic sprite I made (i know i suck at spriting), give her legs and arms, and make some animations for me? Even if one person only does a few of the animations, that's cool, and someone else can do the others. It doesn't matter as long as it gets done. Everyone who contributes will be credited in my game, Candlelight Odyssey, as main graphic artists.

Graphics / free sprites?
« on: November 05, 2007, 08:57:25 pm »
i was wondering if anyone knew of some places where i could get just a few small little sprites for free i could use in my game. nothing like tsgk or spriter's resource; sites that have original stuff that people are free to use.

Graphics / I have a sprite request -- there will be awards upon completion
« on: November 03, 2007, 09:02:19 pm »
What I need is a 16-bit, SNES style pixelart of a candle. Kind of a darker SNES style, like you would find in Final Fantasy or Castlevania. I just want a profile (side) view of an old-style white wax candle on some kind of bronze or copper candle tray. The candle is not supposed to have a wick or flame. i want the whole picture to be about 80x200 (or so) and the wax part of the candle has to be somewhere close to 30 or 40 pixels wide.

(this candle is going to be used in the background of an opening title screen, in case you were wondering. it has no other objects or images to interact with, so dont worry about being exact in size)

Compensation:
I compose original music tracks for games and will gladly make one for free for anyone who wants original music for a game if they finish this small project for me. I will write 3 songs for anyone who gets it done (to my satisfaction) by tomorrow, 2 songs if it's done by monday, and one song if it takes any longer. Just specify what kind of music you need and I can get it for you. If you want to hear a sample track i've written, contact me via MSN or email at lozeldatkm@hotmail.com

(a mod can lock/delete my old topic about this same request. i figured it better to start this new topic since i'm offering something new now)

Graphics / buttons
« on: November 02, 2007, 01:32:05 am »
does anyone have some simple but cool looking menu buttons? either blank, or with the words "NEW" and "LOAD". something that will look ok with a dark, almost gothic theme. i just want my menu screen to look good. i can give credit if really necessary, but all i need is a simple (but original) button.
