Howdy all. ^__^
I was just wondering if you could help me out with these two pictures. They're both from my game, but one has bigger-sized players and enemies, while the other is small (not stretched out). Which one do you think I should use?
BOTH ARE IN FULLSCREEN MODE
Picture 1 - BIG:

Pictue 2 - SMALL:

Thanks for your comments.
P.S. I realise the tile screwup in the ground.

Quoted for truth.

Is this full screen or windowed?  My suggestion; shrink the BIG one so that the ratio is still the same but the sprites are not as exploded.  Considering this is not full screen, of course.  I always hate it when you're a tiny little sprite in a big map, so I'm not fond of the 2nd one at all.

You like the first one eh? I'm just worried about stretching the objects... do the monster and player look ok, or too stretched? I can really only do one or the other.
And thanks, I forgot to say they're both fullscreen.
This should also should be in GFX, but meh. ^__^

And xero, this is fullscreen. ;)

I say first then; let me explain.

When looking at a game, especially a sidescroller, from a tactical perspective, it becomes less challenging, resulting in a boring game when you allow the user to view far ahead.  Isn't part of the fun of a sidescroller not knowing what is to be expected, and having to use your skills in order to beat a level.  Where is the fun in seeing traps/tricky spots before you actually reach them?

When looking at the game from a graphical perspective, you must realize two things.  First, just because the graphics are exploded does not mean they are going to look bad.  There should always be a windowed mode for those of us with huge monitors, so that it is not too stretched.  And second, it's an established sprite to screen resolution ratio.  It's what a lot of people are going to be used to.  In my honest opinion, the second screenshot just looks/feels wrong.

Neither of them are necessarily wrong, I just feel that the first screenshot is what most people would be most comfortable with.

If you have a differing opinion, please share.

I really, really, appreciate your post there. It's what I needed to help boost my reasoning for keeping the bigger objects. I assumed people would be more used to the bigger version, seeing as it blends in well. The only thing I was worried about was someone saying "OMGZ U LIEK SUX CUZ UR IMAGES R BLURRY!11oneone", which was stupid enough to worry about.
I'll make a windowed mode with a smaller screen as well, just incase people don't like the fullscreen. Peoples opinions are still welcome here.
Thanks to all giving opinions. Much appreciated. ^__^

I prefer the zoomed-out view (#2).

But don't you find it odd that the smaller character is surrounded by a bigger environment?

The sprites look like they're double sized in the first one. I honestly can't tell though because the images are too blurry. But the second one looks like the proper scale.

Yes, the second one is proper scale. But I plan to use NES-styled graphics and most tiles are 32X32.
Actually, I got an edited version of the player from Bubble Bobble 2. Pic here:

Honestly, I think that's the best one.

I have to say that I don't really like the AA it seems on the blown up characters in #1, but other than that it seems much better :P

then again depending on the gameplay a bigger view to see whats coming up easier may be better, but in most cases I guess that won't be the case

Ah, I've sorted everything I need to already, so I might as well lock this.
Thanks to all for votes and comments. I plan to post this game once I get all the bubble bouncing and more levels fixed.
