Tomorrow I am going to get my computer wiped. I have 2 drives: One, the main 80 Gig C drive. Two, 40 Gig D drive.
I want to know when I go to get everything wiped completely clean, is there any difference if I was to load Windows XP onto my D drive instead of my C drive, if that's possible (I'm sure it is, you could probably just switch it)?
That way I would load Windows XP onto my D (40 gig) and store all my files on the 80 gig C harddrive.

But maybe one processes faster, or works better, than the other? My 40 gig was old, more than 3 years. The 80 is a newer harddrive.
OR should I just load XP onto the 80 and store all my files onto the 40? All I'm wondering is if I do any of this, if it will help my computer work faster.

Why not just swap the drives physically :P. That was D will be C and C will be D :P

That's what I was thinking, but the 40 gig is so old...
Don't harddrives get worse the older they get, usually?

Access speeds will generally be lower for older ones, and the volatility will probably be increased. So using the newest for your operating system would probably be best.

Why do you want them on different drives anyhow? And why can't you just create a logical drive (as apposed to a physical one) to store your files on?

I was under the impression that if I were to just leave Windows XP by itself, SOME slowing downs would be a lot less frequent.

Unfortunately, I only understand computers to a certain point. >_>
Say again? ^__^
Oh, also, I am giving it to a computer store owner. I'm worthless to help myself if I don't even have the XP CD.

Basically a logical drive is just a partition on a physical drive that acts (as far as the user is concerned) as another physical drive. This basically allows you to split 1 physical drive into many drives as you want. I hope you understand >.<.

Hum, possible. Though I can't think of a logical reason why that would be.

Yep, I understand now.
What exactly is the benefit of splitting your physical drive into smaller pieces? Does it make things more efficient? Or it just helps organize?

And to your response to the last quote...
Neither do I. I just assumed it. ^__^

Not really, it just allows you to organize.

Well, at least you don't go around saying "I'm leaving, you better miss me because I need attention" and then return a few days later. Just post when you want to. That's me. ^__^
Welcome *kinda* back.
