Entertainment / BrentalFloss thank you song!
« on: August 08, 2013, 01:00:47 am »
Don't know if there are any BrentalFloss fans around here but a few months ago he assisted some friends of his by offering to write a thank you song to whoever donated to a certain tier of their Kickstarter. I did and here's the song that he wrote for me:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyZ-zCYwqCo

Just thought it would be kinda interesting. If anyone else on here donated, post your video here! XD

So I've been working on something for a short while now even though I'm only in conceptual stages (and honestly I don't expect it to go anywhere). I just thought that I'd share my character designs for this; one of which you've already seen:

Atsuo [PC]: Ana:

Tucker [TRANSPORTATION]:

Plait:

Honestly though, I'm pretty shite at drawing, I just got a tablet so I'm getting used to digital. I know that the last time I showed something on here, It was like 2 years ago and I was probably way in over my head with it. This time all I want is to share my character design with you. Also, Plait has feet now and Ana's hair is supposed to look like a Banana peel. XD

Entertainment / Hidden Gems
« on: August 11, 2012, 06:56:41 pm »
Basically It's just a topic where people talk about any games they have or enjoy that are criminally underrated and are pretty snazzy. I'll start with some of my games just to give you an idea of what I mean.

ASTAL
Platform: Sega Saturn

Description: Astal is a 2d platformer developed by Sega for the Sega Saturn in 1995. One of the things that is so great about this game is how much it feels like a japanese Rayman game. The 2D sprites give the game a great, compelling style, and the gameplay is excellent.

What Makes This Game A Hidden Gem?: The first reason, and most obvious, reason that this is a hidden gem is that it was released on the sadly unpopular Saturn. Another peculiar reason is that the games name doesn't appear on the side label of the game. This would make it so that customers would not know what game it was unless they got curious.

SEIKEN DENSETSU (FINAL FANTASY ADVENTURE)
Platform: Game Boy

Description: Seiken Densetsu is a 2D top-down adventure game developed by Square for the Game Boy in 1998. On the surface, the game appears to play like Zelda. Once you really sink your teeth into it though, it becomes a very deep and fun experience. You can cast magic that locks onto targets in this game and can replace your sword with many unique weapons such as the Sickles or the Axe, which each have their own special abilities.

What Makes This Game A Hidden Gem?: This isn't completely a hidden gem, per se, but most people are unknowledgeable when it comes to the game. First of all, it isn't actually a Final Fantasy game at all. It's actually the first game in the Mana series, but was given the Final Fantasy moniker in the West to entice gamers into buying it. The game is one of the best I've ever played on the GBC and even got a remake in 2003 for the Game Boy Advance titled Sword of Mana.

Characters / Plait
« on: June 22, 2012, 05:09:26 pm »
PLAIT

DESCRIPTION: Plait is the young prince of The Arcane and the son of King Liripip XVII. Unlike many citizens of The Arcane, Plait grows his hair out and brushes it over his face, covering his third eye. Plait was on his Pilgrimage across the continent to learn of the world outside, but has since strayed from his path and is unable to be contacted by any of Liripips' messengers. It is actions like this that have earned Plait his "rebellious" reputation. While many of the citizens of The Arcane tend to do activities with each other, Plait is a much more reserved, introverted person who enjoys reading, playing video games, and watching movies that he obtains from the world above. Unknown to his father, Plait knows more about the world above than anyone in The Arcane, as he frequently sneaks out and buys movies and attends conventions.

For more information about what Plait is:

ARCANIANS:
The Arcanians are a strange race of creatures that live within The Arcane. They have a strong spiritual connection with the planet. Arcanians are mostly pure magic and therefore aren't naturally visible. To communicate with the outside world, The Arcanians manifest some of their psychic energy to create a physical form for themselves. Unfortunately, rendering a whole body takes massive amounts of energy, so The Arcanians Only render heads with floating capes where the body should be. Arcanians are very rarely seen in the outside world, many Arcanians travel through the valleys of Howwe while on their pilgrimage, though once and a while one will stray from the pack.

Entertainment / [REVIEW] THE HUNGER GAMES MOVIE (SPOILERS)
« on: April 14, 2012, 02:17:39 am »
So I don't review things very often but this is something that I feel that I need to do. I went and saw this movie earlier this week after finishing the first book only a week prior, and I was ultimately dissappointed.

For starters, the movie strays from the book all the time, especially when it's unnecessary and unwanted. For example:
Show content
-Instead of the mayor's daughter Madge giving Katniss the Mockingjay pin, she is given it for free by a shopkeeper in the Hob.
-Katniss's father's death is only referred to once or twice in a very non-emotional matter.
-The three stylists aren't included in the film.
-The Gamekeeper, Seneca Crane, is forced to eat the deadly berries and kill himself, whereas this doesn't happen until the second novel, where he is executed.

Now I could go on and on, but I won't because I know that you don't care. Now, another part of the movie that really gets under my skin is how during the games, they keep cutting to the GamesKeeper. This wouldn't be too much of a problem if they only did this once, but it happens guite a few times and is annoying and unneeded especially since the film is long enough as it is. The acting from some of the characters is stiff and unmotivated and the overall pacing of the film is shaky.

CONCLUSION: It's disappointing to see what was a promising book-to-film series, falls short of it's target in comparison to the Harry Potter and Lord of The Rings books. Overall I'd give it 6.5/10. Defenitely worth a rent on Blu-Ray or something, but I wouldn't recommend seeing it in theaters.

Entertainment / I'm !@#$% done with Rareware.
« on: June 19, 2010, 05:49:25 am »

Well Rareware's finally done it. There were few things that I was relying on to keep me happy. Their classic logo, their clean website, and hope for the TRUE Banjo-Threeie. But recently, Rare changed their classic logo into something I clould have made in Illustrator in under 60 seconds and changed their site into some cookie-cutter microsoft !@#$%. You may think I'm overreacting, but there's !@#$% 360 avatars EVEYWHERE. And to make matters worse, their "revolutionary new Kinect title" is a blatant rip-off of Wii sports using the Microsoft EyeToy.

It goes to show that there are some game companies that almost try to further isolate themselvers from their fans. Rare was important to me because the first 3D game my virgin, 8-Bit eyes ever saw was Banjo Kazooie. From then I was hooked. Staying over at my friends houses to play Banjo and Donkey Kong 64, oh, it was like a dream.

You see, we had just moved in to a new house and I didn't have many friends, so I played my Dad's NES. I made friends with the likes of Mario, Link, Samus, Pit, and Mega Man. Those games filled me with happiness, they gave me something to look forward to when I got home. We were pretty poor at the time, too, so new games were a bust. Things were even worse when my Dad left his job at Acro. Imagine Tuna Fish sandwiches every day. Blech!

But then on Christmas of 2000, I recieved my first 3D console, the Nintendo 64 along with Banjo-Tooie. My Dad was employed at Xerox and made pretty steady pay, and we were happy. I have such fond memories of sitting at night in the glow of the TV, the sound of crickets from outside. There was nothing like it. Banjo and Kazooie became permanently embedded in my mind.

But alas, all good things must come to an end, ya? Rare had announced production for Banjo-Threeie for gamecube and me and my friends were so excited. But then, news of a buy-out by microsoft flooded the internet, and made me pretty upset at the time.

So, yeah. I'm !@#$% done. :'(
I'm sorry I wrote so much, I just hope you understand my feelings on the situation. Feel free to share your thoughts below. :)

Discussion / ADVENT (story)
« on: January 12, 2010, 11:14:30 pm »
This is the story and character bios for a game I am currently designing called "ADVENT". My older game shell has been adapted to be the third game in the series, so the universe is mainly the same. Also, ADVENT isn't directly related with any event in Norse mythology, the acception being that of the Aesir-Venir war

"The year is 67 B.R. The gods are on the brink of a multi-dimensional war. But on the worlds surface, a strange illness scourges the lands and it's people. Society, which had come so far in these times, ceases as if there was no foundation to begin with. Small groups of gatherers band together, hoping to find a cure. This event is commonly known in history as ADVENT."

Character BIOS:

Dyne-A fallen soldier who wanders the afterlife, trying to find a way home. His group of warriors was slain by the infected months before. He was killed by their spears rather than getting bittin as were others in his group.

Rondo-An animated stone statue that saves Dyne's life early on in the game. His entire tribe was wiped out, leaving few of his kind. His species is known as an Anima.

Kaede-A mysterious young man who dons a mask in the shape of a skull. His companions have asked to see his face many times, but as he explains,"This mask is a curse. It'll only come off if I die. Little much is known about him, as he has his own reasons for joining them.

Bor & Vixen-Bor is a Golem excavated from an ancient cavern over fifty years ago. He has the power to change his size, allowing the party to use him for transportation. Vixen is Bor's wife who is around the size of his eye, yet appears much more anatomically correct.

Enemies:
The Infected-The infected are normal humans with a special infection that causes them to turn to stone, causing their eyes and mouth to bleed uncontrollably. After the grueling process is over, they reanimate, attacking anyone around them. They don't seem to have reatained any of there humanistic traits as they don't show any sign of recognition of a previously loved one. They are also often mistaken for Anima, as they bear a stricking resemblance.

Loki-The god of deciet and the one to blame for the fall of society on Midgard. He is always thinking strategically about his next move in the war, and lets nothing get in his way.

Secondary Characters:

Jotunn-A race that is idenified by their large, intimidating appearance. Their species is humble for the most part unless a serious threat is made to their land.

Alfar-A species that is mainly unseeable by humans, Alfar are miniature size humans who often appear as beautiful, pure children. Their size can be campared to that of a tangerine.

Soo I just thought I would let you guys hear what I was cooking up, and I would appreciate it if you could tell me what you think. Any form of criticism is acceptable.

Entertainment / I got a dreamcast today! :)
« on: October 26, 2009, 12:24:55 am »
So I walk down to Game Craze with 30 bucks in my pocket and a few games to trade in, and I had my mind set on GTACW for psp and DMC 1,2,3. So I get there after an hour of painful walking, to find that neither of my games were there. I got pissed. >:D I thought I'd take a look at the systems. I was thinking about the SNES or the Saturn, but they were much too expensive. Then the dreamcast caught my eye, so I walked up to the clerk and asked her how much it was. It was like, 25 BUCKS. I couldn't believe what I heard. I had wanted to get one since summer but never actually found one. I bought a VMU, Evolution, and Jet Grind Radio. They were both excellent games, with JGR being my favorite. For any Sega fans, this is a must buy. :)

Any game recommendations?

Audio / [Request] A few original tunes. Please don't ignore. >.<
« on: October 04, 2009, 08:55:19 pm »
Hey, everybody! I was wondering if anyone out there would be kind enough to do a few tracks for my game, "Shell!". Some requirements for the tracks are:
-Midi or Mp3 only. I don't do OGG. ::)
-Put forth some effort, please. :)
-The tracks need to be loopable and about 2 minutes in length.

The tracks are for the following levels:

Sky High Summit: A ridiculously tall mountain that extends beyond the clouds. I would like it to sound similar to the beta music for Treasure Trove Cove in Banjo-Kazooie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wt5ziuzcC9s 0:07-0:48

Stellar Spectum: A world formed by the stars. Lots of tings and such. Floats in space. :o

Fiery Fortress: One of the main enemies bases. Lots of horns and mining sounds, it's a very evil place.

I would really appreciate it if someone would lend a helping hand. And please don't just overlook this, reply once and a while. Thanks. :)

Discussion / Shell
« on: August 21, 2009, 03:20:19 pm »
Well, I've started a new IP which has a way better foundation than any of my other numerous projects, thanks to The Ultimate Guide To Game Writing and Design. I want you guys to give me your suggestions and criticism. Well here it goes:

[STORY]
The story opens in Venns, a small agricultural-based town. The time is one of peace, electricity is thousands of years away. Suddenly, the peace is broken with the sounds of dozens of motorcycles. The townspeople get scared and confused, and call upon their small militia. The cyclists are revealed to be soldiers led by Elites, the higher-ups. The lower class soldiers are called Bishops, who wear a uniform of less durability. The soldiers jump into the sky, revealing a metal spine connecting them to their backs. The motorcycles transform and attach themselves to the soldiers backs. They proceed to pull gun-blades from their sheaths and attack the townspeople. The towns force is obliterated, while only a handful of Bishops have collapsed.

Magni(you) wakes up against a tree to the sound of explosions. He runs to investigate, weilding his hammer. Then initiates a playable sequence where you fight around 20 Bishops. After, Magni is approached by an Elite and to both of their surprises, Magni shoots a large bolt of lightning from his hand. Magni is apalled at what had happened but decides that it isn't the time to mess around. More Elites come forward, and in a short panic, Magni grabs one of the motorcycle packs and starts driving away as fast as it will allow. Many Elites pursue him, and the chase is on.

Another playable sequence initiates, this one similar to Final Fantasy 7's motorcycle chase. You control the vehicle with the left analog stick, use your hammer with B, and shoots lightning with X. Once one Elite is left both of them stop, both prepare to engage in battle. Magni starts conjuring a large bolt, while the Elite(Seiz) proceeds to pull out a disk-like object called a FED*. and prepares to trap Magni in an interdimensional prison. Both the beam from the FED and the Bolt cross, causing a large wormhole to appear. Both Magni and Seiz are sucked in, along with some other collapsed Elites, leaving them in a strange void. The only evidence of what just happened is one of the Elites visors resting on what looks like a crater.

Magni and Seiz drift through dimensions and time, awaiting the time they will awake and be free.
[End]

I have put a lot of work into this and it would mean a lot if you guys gave me your critique. Thanks.

Discussion / An untitled RPG project.
« on: February 19, 2009, 05:04:48 am »
I've had a cool RPG concept running through my head these last few weeks and I've finally come up with the basis of my project. My Untitled game will follow the story of four people from a zelda-like kingdom that gets corrupted by evil. After hundreds of years of war, time starts moving forward, technology ages fast, too. Problem is, there are four people in the town that haven't aged since the wars fought.

I have sprited a concept of one of the characters:

1. He starts as a merchant in the castle town in the midevil times.
2. Becomes a police man in the modern-like times.
3. Finally enlists in the US military sometime in the year 2356

I'm thinking about having 3d backgrounds and 2d sprites. With a multiplayer mode that lets you play as the military men with modes like, Slayer, Team Deathmatch, and Capture The Flag.

I'm also on edge about whether to make the dialogue "context-sensetive" where what people say depends on how you play and respond. Please vote at the top.

Well the project halted for the DS and I went back to gamemaker and tried this one and finally got the basics down.

Story: The story sets in Outset island in a different periodmof time.(characters stay the same) Orca is teaching Mesa how to fish because he is tired of his slacking. Mesa not paying attention to Orca's instruction, notices masts along the horizon. Before they can go back to warn the villagers, a great number of ships graze Orca's boat. Once the mysterious pirates reach the shore they break into Link's house and kidnap him.

While on board, the captain knows about Links ancestory and takes advantage of the situation by making Link his first mate. During the game you will travel to many various islands, battle pirates, and steal from the rich. The game will have a real-time day and night cycle and will feature some old and some new islands.

Entertainment / Moon DS
« on: June 20, 2008, 10:04:01 pm »
Moon is one of the most visually impressing games I have seen on the DS so far.
The textures look beautifully done with a rich 3D Lunar Landscape.
"Moon places gamers on the cold lunar surface in the year 2058. Researchers are shocked to find a sealed, alien hatch during construction of a new lunar base, but it's a shock that soon pales in comparison to what they find beyond the hatch."(quote IGN)

You can watch the trailer here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzmyjzmZdjA

What I look forward to most is finally having another FPS on the DS. Especially with this kind of quality.

SCREENS:

Researchers discuss their next plans.

Down the hatch we go!

This is what I'm talking about.

Take a chill pill.

Resident Evil anyone?

These are the kind of scenes that leave me in awe.

Anyways, I can't wait to pick this up when it comes out. Be sure to check out the developers blog with all the info on Moon.
