Dungeons / Re: [REVISE] Forest Temple

Personally, I think we need to develop a lot more of the game before we worry about the dungeons. I'm not very keen on this layout at all, but I'm a bit busy with exam revision to have time to actually mockup a layout. I'm actually considering developing a little tool to aid with making the dungeon layouts, probably not using tilesets but more for the actual layout of the dungeon. But I dunno. This is probably me overthinking things :P
Still, the layout looks really simple. I'd suggest taking a look at the dungeons from minish cap and trying to match that complexity.

Well, someone plays too much binding of issac :P
But good to finally here of some progress!

How does Binding of Isaac have anything to do with this? :P Like, equally "wat"
I'm looking at the comments in the code, whoever put the "What a terrible night for a curse..." line in there I thought they'd taken it from binding of issac. That's where I know it from at least, it's probably from some other game or movie, I don't know :P

Just wanted to say I found my old minish cap samples with all the instruments and stuff, although I'm tempted to do a completely clean rip of them again. At this stage, I'm going to use SynthMaker (albeit at this stage within FL Studio, which means I can only export as an FL Studio plugin) to create a plugin containing all the instruments where possible. This will help standardise the way the music is written, as anyone else will use the same sound set. However I won't limit the use of any other instruments/sounds, but it will probably be generally encouraged that they fit with the quality/style of the minish cap instruments.
The format of the plugin will basically be a preset/sound bank, containing the instruments as a dropdown list.
At some I may purchase SynthMaker to export the plugin as a VST (for use in pretty much any music software, not just limiting it to FL Studio) but I'll see what happens.

In regard to tiles I had some really good sets that someone else made a few years ago, I'll try and dig them up.

Personally I think you should use the minish woods tileset and dungeon tileset as a base for the dungeon, it has a more mysterious feel to it. Also I agree with max about the dungeon progression. I always pictured this dungeon as a damp and dark (but not dark in a particularly evil way, moreso in just being in the heart of the forest) sort of dungeon where you spent a lot of time underground, coming out at a few places to traverse some dense foresty areas with rotten logs and a thick canopy overhead, so rather dark. Although the idea of going into the canopy is good too, I think it would make sense to climb up there at some point after getting the grapple.
Also the length of the dungeon probably needs to be minimum 3-4 times as long as it is right now :P

I'd like to but I'm a little unsure at this point. Depends on the song and what instruments it needs. I have a rough idea that I'm going to give a try soon.

Some of you may remember a few years ago I suggested that there be a group of musicians scattered around Hyrule. Each of them is playing their part to a song, and there is a sidequest of sorts to gather them all together to play their song.
So I'm thinking that this could be a sidequest for a small little pub/bar in the poor part of town. The owner mentions that the pub in rich part of town gathers a lot of customers with its live entertainment (perhaps the rich part could have only one guy playing a piano or something? I'd prefer to make it an instrument not used in the group on the poor part, so that could change), which starts you on a quest to recruit some talent for the poor pub. As each new member goes to the pub, the music becomes more interesting and layered and the number of customers increases. After 4 or 5 members arrive the barkeeper gives you a prize (a heart container? Not sure what this should be yet) for helping attract them to the pub.

Revision Notes: Create specifics for each band member and format submission to standards.

I really thought this was well done, the song is quite catchy too.

These are looking great so far! Only animation that looks too static for me is the wall sidling one, maybe make his legs swing side to side a little?

Can't say I've really followed this too closely but now that it's complete I can see what a great piece of work it is. Nicely done! You've captured the LTTP style really well (as bland as I think it is personally :P)!

Not as fast as Pokémon B&W 2
Yeah, I heard about this and was pretty much "what the !@#$%, nintendo?". I didn't play black or white, do they cut the story off halfway through and only have half the pokemon unlocked or something?

With the trance piece, I think it'd work well if you expanded the motive that comes in at 0:28 into a larger melody. There's a lot of potential there.
Yeah, I could do a little more with that, I see where you mean.

Note, I also kind of went out on a limb to find some criticism. If I hadn't got out my criticism-metal-detector, I would have missed any problems altogether. The tunes are phenominal. Great mixing, especially. You sound really professional.
This is exactly the sort of criticism I need, I'm not going to get better if people just tell me that it's good :P I know my music isn't up to the standard I want it, so very much appreciated :)!

I like the first song a lot. It reminds me of the first theme you posted on here, which I think was used in Oracle of Life?
I think the oracle of life song would have been about my 6th song I made? Definitely not the first though :P That would be this one: http://windpixel.com/music/Seshripe%20Village.mp3
The second song is a pleasure to listen to... not too repetitive, nice beat, great sound overall. You know what? The second song is your theme song at them college parties you go to. ;p Only complaint is that it just randomly ends. That's what it made me think of.. ahaha.
Haha, college party song yeah right :P It's at a dangerous point where it could become too repetitive though, and personally I think it's a little weak, like it's lacking something but I'm not sure what. Maybe it's variety.
The weakest one of the three was obviously the last song on the list you posted, Trancy_wip, but that's probably because it's the least complete. It's repetitive. I think the drum instrument you used is what does it in for me. I don't know.
I would agree, it's the one I've spent the least amount of time on and I was really doing it to learn how mix the drums... which still didn't come out all that nicely haha. One of the biggest hurdles for me with this type of music is that drums require a lot of attention to mixing and effects, wheras I'm used to using more natural instruments that only need a bit of EQ and reverb.

These are wicked good! Do you do it all with computer instruments? First one definitely seems like it could be in a video game. What do you mean by mastering is lacking?
Yeah, all of the stuff here is sampled instruments from VSTs and soundfonts mostly. What I mean by mastering is exactly that :P it's an audio engineering term for doing things like volume leveling, EQ and other semitransparent effects to give the final song clarity, making sure every instrument sits nicely in the mix and such.

Cheers for the feedback guys :)

Well it's been a rather long time since I posted anything here. I have actually been working on music though, albeit at a slower rate than I used to. All of the pieces below are WIP, so they all sort of end abruptly or just have parts missing cause I still haven't written them. Mastering is also very lacking.

http://loopyluke.com/music/wip/Resonance_wip_0.3.mp3

This is an old piece compared to the other two, I've been writing it for about a year and a half now. I just do bits every now and then. The last 45 seconds or so has no dynamics written for any of the instruments so might sound a bit flat in comparision to the rest. Still unfinished, I only recently decided to have it transition into a new movement. Orchestral as the genre I guess.

http://loopyluke.com/music/wip/DerpyDurr_wip_0.1.mp3

Yeah, I rarely name projects until they're finished so my folder is full of durrs and pianothingys :P This one is one of my experiments in trance/dance music, which I've been doing a bit of lately. I created all of the synths but one in this piece from scatch, was an intresting little deviation from pure composition.

http://loopyluke.com/music/wip/Trancy_wip_0.1.mp3

Another one of my experiments, this piece being an earlier one. Not sure where to go with this one actually...
