Coding / [LTTP Pure source!] Hmm I guess this counts as an engine... lol
« on: October 14, 2007, 04:50:12 am »
Okay, some of you may remember this; but a while back I started a project I called "LTTP Pure"... Basically it was just a few LTTP mimicking systems I made in GM; and it was never really completed to a point of release (or anywhere near). What it did have however, is a working ocarina system that allows you to cleanly manipulate notes (though the ITs are offkey), a movement system that worked almost exactly like LTTP's, a sword system, shield system, Lost Woods "Wrong Path" sound system, etc. (please note, I'm using the term "system" as I hardly classify a few chunks of code as an "Engine"). Since this isnt really a WIP, or even a game so to speak, I put it here in this forum :P since it basically counts as an engine.

Theres really nothing special about it; it was a pretty ambitious project, however it didn't go too far, because when I was working on it I got my job as a VB programmer for Interlink Partners in Technology, and I put everything like that on hold. So. I feel it is time to release this GMD, that has some useful systems in it, and quite a few unfinished ones (IE: Biomorphic tail for my dodongo, heart system, which as you can clearly see is coded horribly wrong in the source, etc). Dont judge the coding; after having some professional experience in programming, I am quite ashamed of my old GM sources :P

As far as I can remember I coded the whole thing from scratch. I cant remember if I used other resources (other then the mod player system); Sprites and Tiles I cant even remember if they are all my edits and rips or if I got em from someone else. I think one of the sets was ripped by inverder though.

My goal by releasing this is that maybe some day someone will build upon it and make it what I had hoped it would be. Initially it was supposed to be this elaborate expandable zelda engine that preloads each map square around whatever room you're in from a text file (yes.), so you can properly smoothly scroll room to room without any issues; and that also would make it act similarly to LTTP. Anyway, if you use this stuff just credit "Mamoruanime -LTTPpure" or something, I dunno, figure somethin out :P

BTW Fire temple tiles are my originals :p just credit me if you use em, :p thx

But anyway... without further ado, here it is! (I included my 2 old demos as well)

I cant go into specifics on the project this is for; all I can say is it is for my 2nd Xbox Live Arcade project, and development on it wont even start until I'm in mid-year sales on my first OR until I reach the desired budged earnings for this project. Also, depending on the situation of my current texture artist and 3d modeler, I may need someone to take that role on my current Xbox Live Arcade project.

Here's what I need for this particular casting call;

If you're up to it, depending on the position you're taking (conceptual artist/texture artist, or 3d modeler; I prefer both in one); there is a specific task I need for the application-

Concept/Texture Artist:

All I need from you is an original drawing of the following sprite (which is unrelated to this project entirely) to test your skills.-

It should be full color, and I would prefer to see clean edges on the conceptual drawing, however it (clean edges) is not required.
I would also prefer to see at least 2 different drawings of the same sprite, both with different poses (to gauge your ability to think of the particular concept drawing in terms of being a 3d object instead of a 2d object).

3d Modeler:

What I need in the application for this particular position is one of two things-

1: A 3d model of the sprite shown in the above positions requirements.

2: A 3d model of a mech from the Armored Core series (or similarly styled).

Either of these should show that you understand how to model complex objects. Try to keep them fairly high poly. Nothing too extravagant but keep them in a decent range that is *acceptable* for modern gaming systems today.

The models MUST have a bone structure, and I must be able to pose them . They should be in either a 3dstudioMax or Maya readable format.

----

If your work is appealing, I will definitely keep in touch regarding my next XBLA project; it will be a paying job. Keep that in mind too if you are not of age to receive wages.

Also, if my current modeler/texture artist continues to be MIA when I need to have work done from him, then I may call upon whoever has the most appealing application to take on his role. My current XBLA project pays commission only, so for every sale, you earn a kickback; and you'd be paid based on a monthly sales report. I will discuss modeler/texture artist wages after seeing the applications.

There is no specific due date for these; since the particular project I need the applications for isn't scheduled for another year, its no rush. However, get them in as soon as possible, as I may need to call on your services sooner than later :P

When you're done, just post them on here, or PM them to me. I'm keeping a file (actual file, not something on my computer) of each individual application submission for record purposes.

Feedback / Indie game dev forum
« on: October 12, 2007, 08:24:14 am »
Hmm just a question; but instead of "Indie" shouldn't it just be "Other"? The description reads "View and discuss active non-Zelda Work-in-Progress projects."; but non-zelda doesn't necessarily classify itself as indie; since more than likely the projects in there will be fangames of other commercial games, and not totally unique games by individual typically non-commercial developers :P

anywho... just a thought <_<

Every 5 or so seconds the tables seem to resize or something to that effect, and it causes the scrollbars to appear on my browser... I'm using Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.7 o.0 its really... really annoying lol

EDIT
Found what it is- its the message thingy at the top; every time it pops up a message that requires 2 lines of text, it farks up my window lol

Whats your fondest video game memories? Mine is from back in the 90s, but I guess it sorta started from when I was like 2 years old (yes I remember this lol)...

I was sitting in front of my TV with my old NES, and I was playing Mario... well, my brother and my cousin Pat come up to me seeing me play the game... WELL! as a trick they told me I was holding the controller backwards... so ever since then (until the N64 came out), I played with the controllers upside down... This, was not my fondest memory... However it lead to it... Selah.

My fondest memory is beating Super Mario World, Zelda: ALTTP, and Starfox with the controller backwards when I was a youngin... :P It freaked people out how well I could play these games with controls flipped :p it was fun...

Graphics / My old *zelda* sprites/tiles
« on: October 02, 2007, 09:39:46 am »
I dunno if any of you have them by any chance; some of you prolly do; lol they're not really worth too much since they're kinda crappy; but! Just gotta make this statement now lol

I dont really care if any of you use them, at all, lol just remember, they're all under Attribution and Noncommercial  (CCL); meaning, you must give credit, and you cant use them commercially :P... Any Zelda sprites I've made, or make in the future (unless specified otherwise) are free to use, without permission, as long as you credit appropriately.

Why I post this-
Initially, majority of my sprites and tiles were for one specific project; OOT2D, and I made it quite clear when I made them that it was the case; however; over like a couple of months, I found all of my sprites, tiles, etc all over different projects both inside and outside of ZFGC... This is what spawned the whole infamous "rock" issue (which BTW was kinda a personal joke for me; I saw all of my sprites, etc all over the net, so I wanted to make the lamest thing I could to help contribute, EXPECTING to see it everywhere without any permission or credits; and though it did kinda irritate me to see it everywhere, it was more funny to me that I couldnt make even one rather pointless sprite for something without it going everywhere... it even ended up in a fuckin magazine rofl... whyyy.... whyyy.... it was such a stupid retarded sprite lol)

But anyway; for those of you with my tiles/sprites or w/e, please feel free to distribute them as you see fit, just make sure my names on em, lol

For shits and giggles, could I possibly get my old 15,000 post count back + my current posts? XD I wanna get a running total from when I was on IF to now, :p

Anyway, just thought I'd ask :p it'll prolly be a no go anyway, *shrugs* lol Doesnt matter either way lol

Entertainment / Your current music 'playlist'
« on: October 02, 2007, 07:32:34 am »
Most of us (well, it might just be me) go through music phases where we'll listen to specific bands or songs pretty much all the time, continuously over the span of like a month or so... I wanna hear what your current playlist consists of :P

MINE! (in full album form)-

Metallica - Ride The Lightning
Metallica - Master of Puppets (hehe Pastor of Muppets)
Metallica - ...And Justice for All
Dragonforce - Inhuman Rampage
Dragonforce - Sonic Firestorm
Dragonforce - Valley of the Damned
Dethklok - The Dethalbum

And thats pretty much my current list for this month... Other than that I typically go through Adema phases, and other stuff... lol Metallica is my favorite band, so I dont really leave that phase... lol but I'm just stepping outta my Dragonforce phase... Last month it was Avenged Sevenfold in place of Dragonforce... lol

« on: October 02, 2007, 06:40:31 am »
I'm going to try to be online with my 360 tomorrow at 4pm EST while I'm doing laundry at my mums house, lol If you wanna play some Halo 3 (co op or deathmatch), add me, and msg me when im on :P I'm kinda anxious to play some Co-op (I had my deathmatch fun during the beta), so hit me up when I'm on. I should be on right around that time if everything goes smoothly, if not then oops lol

Anyway, if you wanna play tomorrow, leave a msg here so I can add you as well...

Mamoruanime0 is my gamertag. Dont add Mamoruanime; I dont log in under that name typically and I'm still trying to get the 2 accounts merged (damned signup issues). I need to update my account, since I havent been on XBL for like... I dunno quite a few months lol

Entertainment / (SPOILER WARNING.) MY Halo 3 review lol
« on: October 02, 2007, 04:46:25 am »
I'll start off with my scores, and then I'll break it down a bit-

Gameplay: 6/10
Graphics: 5/10
Story: 4/10
Level Design/Level Progression: 1/10
Sound: 10/10
Multiplayer: N/A

Gameplay:

Gameplay was alright; pretty much the same as it always goes for shooters. There were quite a few intense moments in the game that did keep me at the edge of my seat; and they got my girlfriend wondering "Whoa and why dont I play video games???", and that to me is a good thing. However, for the most part, the game is boring, and doesnt hold my interest too well. I'm afraid that most of the time I was running through Halo 3, it was for the achievements and not for the game itself. My gamerscore is important to me. But on the plus side, I do like that there could be a TON of mobs on the screen at once (even if they are all practically the same enemies rehashed over and over again), and you can take em all on. Having *managable* impossible odds in a game is a good thing. Although it is VERY annoying when you get lost regarding your allegiance. One minute, the covenant is helping you. The next the flood is helping you. WHAT THE !@#$%. Its very annoying. As for the ending; I only beat it on Normal; so the ending didnt make much sense. (SPOILER.) One moment Chief and Cortana are on a ship with the Arbiter, the next chief is dead and arbiter is standing at his memorial. Big gap between the two events, and it never really shows chief die (legend ending, I know.). So w/e lol that was just annoying.

Pros: Intense action sequences, Made girlfriend intrigued
Cons: Boring at times, generic, confusing story elements that affect gameplay

Graphics:

The world graphics are beautiful in this game... for the first few acts... Then the game just becomes a normal ol Halo game with mediocre-for-its-time graphics. I do love the cutscenes; the lighting effects are brilliantly used throughout all of the cutscenes. However, the biggest issue is with the models. Theyre dirty. Models OTHER THAN Master Chief, Cortana, and the Arbiter SUCK ASS. lol

Pros: Beautiful map design for a little bit...
Cons: The game becomes more dated looking the farther you get... NPC meshes suck ass...

Story:

I greatly dislike the storyline. There are so many failed story elements that dont launch or finish properly. Theres subreferences to religious elements in the game; The Ark (of the covenant), The Covenant, The Flood, John (I could go on about references one of my old ZFGC friends found with 3:16, etc) just didnt really go anywhere. It was rather stupid, lol. On one hand its just your standard story; earth is at war, enemies have weapons of mass destruction, bush sends troops to fight, troops end up on a giant ring that they eventually destroy then the terrorist covenant arbiter joins us and doesnt really serve much of a purpose other than to look pretty after halo 2. <_< running sentence on purpose BTW. I dont know, Halo 2's ending left me hanging. When chief was all like "those bastages are taking the fight to Urf, rawr, I will kill them blah blah" I thought, "Hey sweet, city fights in Halo 3." ... but I didnt see any of that either. Halo 3 just left a horribly disappointing and rather unfulfilled conclusion to the series. I dunno, judging story can be a bit tough, because others could think its the most fantastic thing in the world; but to each their own, I guess :p

Pros: Eh it was okay.
Cons: Too many failed story elements. Conclusion was sucky at best.

Level Design / Level Progression:

I thought it was !@#$%. They should have just named the game "Backtrack 3", because thats what you do throughout most of the game. I'm sorry, but when the next part of a level involves going back through the same exact level you were just through while it explodes in almost every act, theres a problem. I want a cutscene that has chief do that for me. The level design is pretty standard to begin with, and once you start seeing the flood you see that the level design starts sucking... shame that the flood marks when you'll be backtracking for most of the game >_<. Another issue; the FIRST TIME they use deep water in Halo (and the ONLY time they use it), they !@#$% it up. First level; you're at this big waterfall area. You hop in the water... and guess what? ITS HARDER THAN !@#$% TO GET OUT. Literally it took about 10 minutes just to hop on the ledge you need to be on to get out, and you have to mash down your jump button or you wont be able to get out. Thats horrible game design, and the water physics are lame. lol

Pros: ...
Cons: Backtracking through craptastically designed levels sucks.

Sound:

Not a single complaint here. Brilliant.

Pros: Everything
Cons: ... :D

Multiplayer:

I havent played it online yet outside of the beta :P The beta was fun though, lol...

So yeah, thats my review I guess. I dunno, the game was just okay.

I'm thinking about working on a little Metroid 3 clone that is similar to Megaman Powered Up! for PSP; whereas its a chibi style 3d sidescrolling version of the older version of the game. Samus would resemble the chibi samus in my avatar; and it would play out kinda like the old 10 page 1993 promotional manga that came out in japan. I would probably only have a few things to do in it though; it would be more of an XNA programming test for me personally, but I need a project to learn some new C# stuff, and this could do for one.

I've got another project in the works right now, but its not anything I can release or discuss (professional release project, as apposed to a fan project), but I should be able to find time to work on this while my projects in development and I have my personal down time lol

Entertainment / So... How many of you are gunna try to take me on...
« on: September 28, 2007, 05:06:14 am »
I, much like many others in the world, am anticipating the release of GH3 for quite a few reasons, but one of which... is online multiplayer :p...

So the question is; who's gunna partake in some wicked string bending pwnage given out by the one and only (and a little egotistical when it comes to Guitar Hero) Mammy? :p

Seriously though, after my roommate left for the navy I have absolutely no Guitar Hero competition rofl... so Ima need some peeps to battle lol Anyone here getting Guitar Hero 3 for the 360?
