As you may or may not know, there were three points where Dragon Ball Z was supposed to end at. The first point was at the end of the Freeza saga, with Son Gokou having become the legendary Super Saiyan, of which only one comes every thousand years, and killing Freeza. With seconds left before Namek explodes, Gokou searches all over for a spaceship, but fails to find one and dies in the explosion of Namek. The fans pleaded that Dragon Ball Z continue so Akira Toriyama continued Dragon Ball Z by having Gokou find Ginew's ship and use it to escape just in time instead of dying in the explosion.
Next is the Cell Saga. In the Cell Saga, It is changed so that there is no limit to the amount of saiyans who can become Super Saiyans instead of just one. After Cell starts his self destruct sequence, Gokou warps him to North Kaiō's planet where Cell self destructs, killing Gokou and North Kaiō. Cell's core regenerates and he warps back to Earth. Son Gohan, as a Super Saiyan 2, kills Cell for good with a kamehameha wave, and the group goes to wish Gokou back to life with the Dragon Balls. When The Camera Crew come out from hiding, and when they ask Mr. Satan who beat Cell, Mr. Satan says that he did, and the Earth believes Mr. Satan to be their hero. When the group are about to wish it, Gokou says that he thinks he should stay dead, as the bad guys always come to seek revenge on Gokou, so if he was dead the Earth would be safer. This saga ends with Trunks going back to his time and killing the Androids and Cell of his timeline, and thus the two timelines live peacefully. Once again the fans wanted Dragon Ball Z to continue, so Toriyama started the Boo saga.
The Boo Saga in the beginning stars Son Gohan, but fans wanted more of Son Gokou so Toriyama wrote him back into the story. Near the end of the Boo Saga, Gokou needs to gather up enough energy to make a Genki Dama that is powerful enough to destroy every last one of Kid Boo's molecules, as if even one is left he can regenerate his body. After everyone on Earth is wished back to life, Vegeta talks to everyone on Earth through North Kaiō's powers and tells them to raise their arms to give Gokou the energy for the Genki Dama, but only Gokou's friends do so, as no one else trusts Vegeta's voice. Next Gokou talks to the people of Earth, but few more do as told. Lastly Mr. Satan tells the people of the Earth to raise their arms, and recognizing the voice of their hero, everyone raises their arms, which gives the Genki Dama more than enough energy. Gokou wishes that Boo could come back one day as a better person, and hurls the Genki Dama at Kid Boo, who does his best to stop it, but to no prevail. Years later, in the Tenka'ichi Budōkai, Gokou faces a small boy named Oob, and after a fierce battle with Oob, takes him to be his student. The two ride off into the sky, and the audience is informed that there will be many more adventures of Gokou, but they will happen in the imaginations of the audience.
My choice is the Freeza saga, because Gokou dies a hero and the Super Saiyan prophecy is kept true.
