Well, I just got back from watching Star Wars: Clone Wars, the new CG Star Wars movie. They were showing a "Sneak Preview" at the on-base theater; Our "sneak previews" tend to be full movies. ;)

Anyways, the movie's pretty tight, and I recommend watching it to anybody who likes Star Wars, once it comes out in mainstream theaters. Some pretty interesting !@#$% happened in it :D

There's such a double standard about religion in the modern world. Catholics can gather, wear white robes, and say "In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti" and be considered normal.

But if my friends and I gather, wear black robes, and say  "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn", we're considered cultists.

Did you know that this came out of the upcoming animated series that will air later this year? George Lucas liked the animated footage of the show so much, he wanted to release a movie for it beforehand. Still, I do want to see it.

That was an old one, I think by the same guy who did Samurai Jack and Dexter's Lab. This new one is the same style as the new movie (naturally, as the movie was made after some episodes of the show were)

Why did they choose to make a CG movie about the clone wars and not the first episode or something?...

Because the clone wars were referenced in A New Hope by Luke to Obi-Wan. The line is this: "You fought in the Clone Wars?" The Clone Wars have yet to be told, and this is the way they are being told. The movie and the show.

Why retell a story when they can fill in a major gap?

..I don't believe he was talking about Episode 1. If my H_b decoder is working properly, I believe he was asking why did they make a movie instead of finishing and releasing the first episode of the Clone Wars CG series.

That makes sense. And iirc, this is a new guy and a new studio/group/whatever working on this. So that's why.

And because nothing in Eposode I needs to be elaborated upon, unlike the Clone Wars which remained untold (until now).
