If you liked Pokemon Gold/Silver/Cristal, then yes. It has many new features, such as the Pokeathlon, and the system added in Diamond and Pearl. I totall recommend it.

It's actually the best game of the series so far, next to Crystal.  Two Regions, 16 Badges, Ultimate Trainer Red, plus the Frontier and Pokeathelon.  What more could you want?

Biggest annoyance for me is still having to use the phone to rebattle, rather than the vs seeker type thing they have in a few of the games.

The leaders are slightly more difficult.  Nothing too major--just noticed that :)

Meh, they're still easy. Elite 4 in this game is pretty easier than the Elite 4 and Champion from Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow.

Not yet, but in Emerald you have the Battle Frontier (trust me, that Frontier is way better and harder than the one from HG/SS/PL), and in Platinum you have another Frontier, with 5 buildings instead of 6.
