Entertainment / Re: A little something I wrote up about fan games.
« on: September 02, 2011, 04:31:56 pm »
I was actually reading it myself when it was released. Normally I look at who wrote the update/articles/news post/whatever. When it was about fan games, I had to check who wrote it and I was surprised when I noticed it was you. It was a good piece of writing about fan games nevertheless.

So how's Zelda Informer? Figured I'd ask as my site is an affiliate. XD

I could be getting one for my birthday in two weeks. With the recent media for Ocarina of Time 3D, it's got me a lot more excited.

3
1. Bleach
2. Dragon Ball Z/Kai
3. Yu-Gi-Oh! (4Kids & YGOTAS)
4. Pokémon (4Kids & TPC)
5. Digimon (Season 1 & 2)

There are probably a few others I like pr have watched before but I can't think of them off the top of my head. I don't watch too much anime though.

Feedback / Re: Revamping ZFGC
« on: March 06, 2011, 07:45:24 pm »
I have a mixed opinion on this as I think ZFGC is fine the way it is but I also think it could either be improved or it can just let itself die if nobody is going to take the initiative to try to improve it. When I came here in 2006, this place was alive and there were many interesting fan games to look at. Over four years later, that has changed as pretty much everyone who has stayed since then has changed and has pretty much lost interest in Zelda or doesn't even care about the franchise anymore but they stay because of the people they've met. It's pretty much the community that's keeping the site alive but some people and some new people are trying to keep the site alive as it means something to them.

Being a website owner myself, you're going to have to give in to some things and try something new. I don't think merging with another site is a good idea as you'll basically lose your identity and then you'll regret your decision or miss your old site. If this site were young and small, I could see a merge working out as that is pretty much how my site started out, two small sites that merged and became one. Even though you might not have much of a desire to improve things, you have to try something. You'd have to start small though obviously and work your way up. Sure, you'll need one big aspect to get new members but you can't rush into it. Back to my site for a moment. This past August, my site held a 96-Hour marathon for charity. Before the marathon, my site was seeing barely any activity and we were a year and a half old. After that marathon, we got a lot more visitors and opening a message board really helped out as well. Even though my site and this site are completely different, you need to find something that can spark interest in working or developing here.

If anything, try playing some Zelda again as that is probably one of the factors that brought you here in the first place as it was one of mine. I think at this point, you'd have to look back on the mistakes you've made and look back and see how you can improve them. I think the Community Project was a good and bad idea because it was too big to handle with the size of them team yet it had some interest aspects that even today I still think are cool. The thing with fan games I've realized over the years is that people want to make a full game out of it. If anything they should try to start small just to see if they want to keep continuing with fan gaming. I mean, you could start off with a puzzle game and work your way to something like Bomberman or Pac-Man, then work your way to something like Mario and then Zelda. Basically start off with something simple that's unique and has people interested. Even though you'd want to make your own full Zelda game or Indie game, you need to think about it clearly before you go ahead with it. I know I haven't been here as long as some of you but I think we can all agree that we've seen many fan projects die due to losing interest and real life mumbo jumbo.

Back to the whole issue with revamping the site (even if I may repeat myself), I think ZFGC just needs to try to rework itself. Even in the normal Zelda community, I've seen quite a few sites that were on the verge of death but they came back alive, with one of them being one of the most popular Zelda sites on the interwebs (talking about Zelda Dungeon here). Even with a different aspect, this site can still make a comeback as well but it's just a matter of doing it right and having the right people to do it. Some people don't like change but you have to live with it. Things change all the time and it's just apart of life. All I can say is, try giving an effort to do something. If you have an idea, try it out.

Some things u guys aren't seeing is this website IS THE BEST for putting up fan games. no other zelda forum or site has ever had as much successful (or nearly successful) games than ZFGC.
No other Zelda forum wants to focus on fan games at all as they don't really care about them or don't even know a thing about Zelda fan games in general. I have no desire to add a board for fan games on my own forums as I think that role has been filled by ZFGC, even in its current state. However, there are a few people on my forums interested in fan gaming except I don't really want to lead them here as they are in their early teens and will most likely lose interest in fan gaming because of how critical everybody is here.

I only find Emulators and roms useful for taking screenshots to help complete content pages. Other than that, I think they are pointless. Playing on a console just feels right. If you can enjoy playing on a console, then that's great. People who play with emus and roms clearly don't support the original game and the original system but I guess fan gaming would do that to you. I'd rather earn my games than be cheap and lazy but I suppose that's just one man's opinion which wins over all. It's been decided.

Even though he doesn't have a bring role or have much relevance, Tingle is still a pretty decent character and probably one of my favorite Zelda characters. I'd love to play those Tingle games but everybody hates Tingle in North America so thanks to you haters, I can't have fun playing Tingle games. I agree about the Tingle Tuner, it is a pretty fun item though it would have been cool if it could be used for the main quest and maybe alter it a bit. I liked collecting the statues though as it's a good way to get some Rupees for reading those Triforce Charts.

XD I don't think there's a positive side to Tingle :P

For me, Tingle represents a time when Zelda turned into dribble. I suppose it's different for people who actually enjoyed Majora's Mask though.
Zelda never turned to dribble. If it did, nobody would play it and nobody would love it. To be truthful, Majora's Mask has become more appreciated the past couple years because people are now realizing how great of a game it is. It still seems you'll never realize that but I guess that's what happens when you lose joy for such a franchise. Yes.

I still find it amusing that you hate Majora's Mask and Tingle.

I know there's a used games store near me that has an NES for $29.99. I got my SNES there last year for $39.99 and I'm loving it. I really want to get an NES though.

Not everybody can download games on the Virtual Console and not everybody has played the original games and the original SNES All-Stars. If it sells well then it sells well.

Anyone who has $30 can download games on the Virtual Console. Probably all of those games and then some... Also the second part of that is why Nintendo is being slightly evil with this. It's lazy money. It's also why Nintendo is 100x worse than Sony and Microsoft combined :P

Like I said, not everybody can download games on the Virtual Console as they might not have their Wiis connected to the internet. I do agree that they are being slightly evil with this but Nintendo is known to re-release games all the time.

Besides, the All-Stars versions of these games aren't even on the Virtual Console, much like Ocarina of Time Master Quest though I do have it on a hacked OoT channel. Just leave it alone. Yes. :P

Again, they could have put All-Stars up there instead. I would call it a lazy port but really, there's no porting involved. They used their stock emulator to port over a rom. Seriously, wtf. The only people who would both defend this game and find this game appealing are fanboys. Pretty much all there is to it :x

There aren't even any odds of that happening, which is probably why they released this Wii version in the first place. Pretty much the whole All-Stars package is probably around or over the size of N64 games on Virtual Console and I'm guessing that they only allow a specific size for SNES games or any games on the Virtual Console, which is probably the reason why they did this in the first place. You can get the four games on Virtual Console for $21. The fact that the Wii version offers a few other things pretty much makes the $30 tag reasonable, emulated or not.

This is old, OLD news. XD The fact that the 3DS is going to have a Virtual Console is awesome which I'm hoping the North American version this time around will see MANY VC games unlike what's happening with the Wii Virtual Console! What? Oh yeah, Mario Party 2 hits the VC today. :P

It was a fun game and the Giant Bowser battles were fun. I had the same issue you did with my hand blocking the screen but it wasn't that big of a deal and it didn't bother me whatsoever. Yes.

Back towards the topic focus.....

This is looking pretty awesome. It'd be quite a challenge to complete the entire lair but I'm sure you can do it. Have you considered adding Spiral Mountain?

Playing Zelda on consoles is the best way to play. It's been decided. Yes.
Any version of OoT or MM you have that's not on the Nintendo 64 is on an emulator. The freezing issues of Majora's Mask on the Gamecube were caused by emulation errors.

Assuming you mean any way of playing games in front of a TV, then yes, I agree. But that's not exclusive to consoles, as PCs can be hooked up to TVs too.
Clearly I'm fully aware of that. It just feels normal and actually fun to play with a console. I only find an emulator useful for getting screenshots. It really helps for Majora's Mask content on my site.

Ocarina of Time runs perfectly on the Collector's Edition disk. The only issues I noticed with Majora's Mask were some frame rate issues and freezing. The only time I had freezing was if I was a Goron in Snowhead or a Zora in Pirate's Fortress. The only time I bought OoT was on Virtual Console, as I got the N64 version for a birthday and got the CE version with my Gamecube. Playing Zelda on consoles is the best way to play. It's been decided. Yes.

« on: November 13, 2010, 03:57:59 am »
Black Ops is a lot more enjoyable than Modern Warfare 2 in my opinion. I find that I can actually get kills without getting nubtubbed, spawn killed or get hit every single plane possible. The killstreak awards are a lot better for sure and they aren't as cheap, unless you consider Hardline with multiple RC cars cheap but I find controlling an RC car a lot more enjoyable than controlling a Predator Missile anyday. The Nazi Zombies maps from World at War look visually better and feel better too. It's nice using an MP40 again.

Nevertheless, the game is looking wonderful, even though I had watched this video like a month ago. Kokiri Forest's never looked better.

How much is the 3DS supposed to cost?

(not that I'm planning on getting one, nor could I afford it if I wanted to)

Last I heard it was going to be about $250 to $300 but I'm not positive at all.
The japanese equivalent is $300 but it could be cheaper for us North Americans. Who knows?

I find Black Ops to be better than the others for sure but CoD4 did have awesome multiplayer. That's just me though. Besides, it doesn't hurt to give games a chance.

The fact that Black Ops is a Treyarch-developed game, it's probably been in development for longer than a year. Most likely, development started after World at War and the other two games they were working on. Black Ops is looking like a better experience than Modern Warfare 2, that's for sure.

I doubt I'll get Reach since I'm not a fan of Halo. I enjoyed Halo 3's multiplayer so I'm sure I'll give Reach's multiplayer a try.
