I'm going with yes, mostly because I would like to see what it is like firsthand, and then how it improves again when you re-release it with more. This appears to be an amazing game, and I think just releasing what you have would make a very large impact regardless. Please release a demo, though if you decide not to, from a game developer's point of view, I understand why. But, posting as a player's point of view, I think you should.

I'm not exactly sure of what I was trying to say in that post, but it'll probably come to me later.

also... I forgot to mention that if you release it now, then you can see what feedback you get, then make another, and wait for feedback on that, and so on until you can make your game great by listening to others suggestions

I would say No. Dont release an unfinished artwork. If you need feedback only give it to betatesters not to everyone. People should be able to experience it in a full game without it being cut short.

You both have good points. But it's not like nothing will work. It will just not be as completed as the full game. I could include atleast 3 short quests for testing out. I would like to hear some feedback too.

To put it bluntly your code is unorganised making it difficult to work out where to start when it comes to porting it. I believe it would be easier and faster to rebuild the entire engine than port it to MMF2 (although Benito, my superior in Click Knowledge may disagree).

I also think that you should take the time, or get someone else to take the time (Benito? Me in the distant future?), to build a proper, mouse-click movement system because you obviously don't want one like the one in OoL because, to put it bluntly, it sucked - and I don't think you should stay with the keyvboard movement.

I already said it's quite possible to make a decent AoE style movement system in MMF2 with patience using a collection of advanced maths and formulas.

i would generally agree that if you are taking the coding job on yourself then its best for you to start from scratch merely using the first engine for reference, also some things that are used in TGF don't work in MMF as far as I remember, some events freeze up the event editor when crossed over. Although at first rebuilding might be slow you would end up with a more well rounded engine. having someone new take over your code and add things will be just that, someone tacking things on, making events to simply solve problems that they don't understand.

As for the mouse click movement engine I made one a while back hehe, using the path finding object as you could imagine, although that will only work on a grid based system and thats exactly what I wished to do s maybe it wouldn't fit your purpose really. And as for making a AoE system with the maths tools I've never seen it done but I'm guessing it could. I never looked into that area of pathfinding.

Yes, I said from the beginning is that I would need it from scratch. But I can not do that alone. Because if I would it would be the same crappy coding all over again. I mean well. The codes work. But I have a feeling people you Ben, Naz, Sol etc. can do it so much easier in much less time.

I have been working on making that short demo. And everything works fine. It would also be a good chance to see how it should work if you plan to help me recode it.

Also, I forgot who I promised to let the game beta test. Will that person please remind me? I also have one or two free slots for beta testing. But only respond if you are very, very thorough. As there are many things in the quest system that might have bugs.

I'd like to help beta test for I know MMF well and know where bugs can come up. Also I know the common causes of said bugs and can help fix them to some extent.

Yes boys and girls, it is finally here. The town demo! Just download and play it. You might have to unzip it somewhere. It is already in a folder so just extract everything. If it does not work please let me know!

Oh, and you might notice a huge amount of bugs on the movement engine and other stuff. But just ignore that. The movement engine was never fuly worked out. It will all be fixed in the new engine. Just tell me what you think about it  :)

Enjoy!!!

I get the very same error everytime I download a TGF/MMF game, you always forget the CNCS32.dll file. I thought people would get used to include it over time...

I found nothing wrong with the demo except for the occasional walking through walls (After quests) and a few things that I'll mention. I have a bit of a complaint, though, the town did exactly seem lively. Out of all the people only four/five actually moved (In a pre-set path. <_<) and barely anyone had any animations. The sounds, I have to say, where excellent and a great addition (How you found sounds for all those things is beyond me) but the game was lacking music. (Unless I couldn't play the music (I can't play midi's on my computer))

Other then those few things, it was an excellent first demo. (Awesome menus)

Note: I can't find smithys hammer, is it actually obtainable?

No, the hammer is in the Forest, which you cannot go.

Yes, the town is not that lively. I agree completely. But since I ran out of active objects to use it is hard to make it lively. So in the new re-coded I will have birds flying, more people walking and moving plants and stuff like that :)

Glad you enjoyed it, thanks

Lol don't worry, got it to work.

I think I'm in !@#$% love with this game! :D We don't get to see fan games of this quality much nowadays. First of all, nice work on the tutorial, that was really well done, and I love how the flowers are set up "WASD", little details that make your life better :D
The gameplay is awesome and really well thought out. I mean come on, this is great! As you said though, the walking engine needs some work, but apart from that, it's very smooth! The mouse interactivity is too good to be true! Wow, it's so easy you get addicted and start looking everywhere for an object to click on! :D Hehe, very nice. The menus are awesome, very simple, easy to use, and have that good ol' Zelda feeling! Sounds are very well implemented, I wonder how you got those Wind Waker sounds though?
The town itself is great, can't get much better of a starting town than that! The Quest system works like a charm, and I just love the reference to GTA 3 when you finish a quest. I mean come on, that just blew me away! I reckon I found one or two glitches, concerning sounds, just before I leave a place, to another place, and a sound is played during the move (like opening the menu or whatever), then it gets stuck and the sound repeats itself until I move to another place. Bah I guess that will be fixed since you're going to rewrite everything, so I'm not worried!
I only found one quest though, are there any more?
Oh, the text box is incredible, and the "Yes / No" buttons are nice, well overall the graphics are really good and fit together extremely well.

For a first public demo, this is an excellent job,  you for sure have to keep at it, I mean don't even try to forget about this project or I'ma come at night and CENSORED :P

Nice story too (just got around to read it), but where is Link? :(

Keep up the good job!

Wow Alex, thanks a lot :)
Yes, all those problems are going to be worked out. There are tons of bugs if you know where to find them. It will all be fixed hopefully.

There are 2 quests you can complete, one in the blacksmith's home and one in the pub.
You can accept 2 more...but you can never complete them in this demo.

I got the sound and music from several dfiferent places. From Knights Of The Old Republic 2 for example. Which is where I based the hud off too. And all the other music is from different RPG games, 7th sage, Terranigma, Zelda and some other old SNES RPG's that I forgot.

Lol you're welcome! Forgot to say two things :

- On the map, you should add the character's location, but don't just cut off the head, make a gb styled one, it will fit better with the map.
- Awesome Burp sound! I just keep talking to Louis :D

I got an error:

This application has failed to start because CNCS32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

I imaigne that that's my computers fault, I had an error like this before while programming...but maybe it's not?
