http://www.destructoid.com/news-flash-consoles-use-electricity-could-be-lessened-if-turned-off-116341.phtml

So apparently every console gamer in the world uses as much electricity in a month as a city in California. Thats a shocker considering the millions of consoles out their in homes, who would've guessed that they take juice to run? What is with the sudden "EVERYTHING HAS TO BE GREEN" movement? To me, it seems that playing your XBOX is killing the planet's solar cycle is a lofty proposition at best, especially considering the short timeframe we've been studying weather compared to the Earth's tenure as the solar system's most obnoxious blue planet.

Discuss.

Computers use a lot more electricity as most people let them idle without shutting them off. And personally I feel that Neptune is the most obnoxious planet due to the "wind" patterns that appear on the planet's upper atmosphere, and the fact that Neptune's moon Triton has a retrograde orbit.

A lot of people have consoles though, and there are other things that use a lot of electricity as well.

*looks around his room and realises his Hi-Fi is on and not playing any music, his laptop is on and browsing the internet, his Desktop is on (And therefore the tower, the monitor and the speakers) and he is playing Morrowind, and the TV is on and it is showing Family Guy)*

High five for destroying the planet!

Xbox 360's are green!

Seriously though, I'm surprised people are just realizing how much electricity gaming uses. Oh well. We can always live on the moon once we completely destroy this place.

My friend's brand new XBOX RROD'd after a few hours of using it then turning it on the next day. The cause is a fault in the system, not the misuse of the owner ;). But actually, I would like it to get the RROD and get replaced because the disc tray sometimes gets stuck.

That shouldn't RROD it, RROD generally occurs when the 360 is pushed too hard.  Just leaving it on the Dashboard or in idle wouldn't do anything unless it was already on verge of RRODing.

Well, RROD usually indicates that the GPU has melted or a circuit has melted bridging itself onto another circuit. So yeah; idling shouldn't hurt anything assuming you're idling on something not GPU taxing.

Lol what's the point of this article? Consoles are just one of the many things people use a few hours a day.

Yeah, some people. But there are so many people who just leave the console on without using them for like 24 hours a day.
Of course the planet can't be saved by only shutting down consoles when not using them, but it wouldn't hurt to save some electricity when you're able to. It's a step closer to a better future.
The real issue is the big companies, but we alone can't change that fact. Think about it.
