Amazering :D!1 Zombie Grinder <3
-
lovin it.. Infini showed me a screen earlier today, I must say I am really impresed with what you two got in just 5 days.. some stuff I hope you add is an animation of getting hit by a zombie it seems to be the only thing missing on it.
-
Maybe a flash of red or something. At the moment, you spurt blood. The characters are made of 2 sections, so having "attacked" frames would double our current sheet size.

Maybe not then to the attacked. This game looks awesome! What language was this?
-
Infini uses blitzmax and I wanna say maybe some C++ help? not 100% sure ;p
-
He uses Blitz + C wrappers, if I'm not mistaken. Blitz is neat as hell :D
-
the head of the main character looks strange but other than that it looks awesome.

I know, Maybe it's just me I dont like block heads :P
-
Looks pretty awesome, sweet sprites, zombies are the best, etc.
When blood gets on the escalator it should disappear for a bit then reappear at the bottom again.
-
Awesome sprites XD can't wait til the release
-
This is looking really good! I love the bright, stylized look with the ridiculous blood, kinda makes me think of Fat Princess.
-
That looks great so far!
I can't wait for you to get farther in development.
I'll be keeping my eye out. :D
Also, the zombie combing Infini's hair part was funny :P
-
The first level is going to be a mall, in case you can't work it out, going to be awesome <3.
Also DJ is almost finished (I think) with flamethrower sprites, so thats going to be intresting :D.
-
(http://zfgc.com/infinitus/zg_ss2.png)
Epic uzi <3, 18 rounds a second. Also, random spawning chamber that isn't finished yet.

Nice updates so far =3 I can't wait to play it again with the current updates :P
HOPEFULLY SOON AS MYSELF NO LESS XD
-
I'll get P3 and P4 done quick. P2's whole sheet took about 2 hours to edit from P1, and thats only cause his wardrobe has no long sleeves. Yours and Fini's both have them, so simple edits from P1 :D

That's pretty stellar. I hope to see this game complete. ;)
-
Oh god, Infini o_o...
-
Just have to say it again: This game looks crazy fun. Are there plans for online play? (As in, is is local multiplayer only, or would I potentially be able to play with other ZFGCers?)
-
In the trailer, that's me (California) playing with Infini (UK).

My questions has been answered :D Sweet.

Oh god I really do love this flamethower.
-
Burn baby burn! This game is looking awesome. Now sum grenades or chainsaws, zombie parts everywhere.
-
I see you upgraded, nice!
-
Oh god I just finished writing player-bot AI XD. Been sitting here for the last 20 minutes watching my player go around and kill things of its own accorde, somewhat mesmorizing.
-
The bots are pretty awesome XD
-
You needa dumb down the AI, or it's not gonna be fun to play with XD! watching 2 bots chainsaw through all the zombies while you waste all of your ammo trying to kill em first won't be fun D;!
-
About a week into development...
This is a nice trailer and just showing one week into development?! Are you guys planning on having ctf mode and stuff like that? Because just going around shooting up zombies can only be fun for so long. This game is looking amazing though. Oh, and the flamethrower looks dang sweet. XD
-
It's not gonna have any sort of versus. The closest thing to a CTF variant would probably be get past zombies to get item X and return to starting point. Right now the gameplay is going to be objective driven campaigns, and a few "save the uninfected" maps (in the style of Zombies ate my neighbors) as well as survival maps (single player)... At least that's what I personally have planned :P Infini also has tons of ideas, so there will most likely be at least 2x as many gameplay variants ;)
-
I dont think it will get boring--- Smash TV rocked; and this is kinda like that
-

So kinda a co-op capture the flag? lol
Like reach an objective together, then make it back alive?
Game's looking great btw. Can't wait until it's finished. :D
-
Well when I think Capture the Flag, I think team vs. team, so yeah.

Ok, this sounds great! I'm definitely looking forward to mindlessly shooting up zombies with my friends. XD
Btw, the graphics style is so SO good. 8)

thank you :]

How about Server side scripting (lua?). Would this be possible?

Oh !@#$%, dude! I still wanna make a sidescrolling zombie shooter wif you, sucka! I remember when you sent me those ones over the phone! I like how my old flamethrower was based off some pre-release TF2 shots I saw in a magazine... and I was totally off!
-
any progress?
-
Been busy with other stuff for the last couple of weeks. I'll get some work done on it when me and dj have some free time.

What happened I was looking forward to this?
I hope you aren't posting because you're deep in development.
I was looking forward to the 2d one then you got my hopes for 3d, now :P
-
Still in progress, just been buzy recently. And given we are developing a completely new engine in C++, it takes time, it won't be nearly as fast development as with the 2D one.
-
Sorry for the dig, but you guys should work on this, especially since Halloween is coming up and all. You guys could really make this game rock the house. 8)
-
For anyone who cares, I uploaded an old development build of this game as its unlikely most of you will ever get to play the 2D version of the game.
This is an old development build though, so I want to make something clear; DONT ASK FOR SUPPORT OR REPORT BUGS, I don't care. This version of the game isn't even being developed anymore, its all 3d from now on :3.

3D, kind of lame. The art style had something really special.
If you use sprites for players still, a fixed view, and only have the environment being 3D, I'd forgive you.
That might be your plan but I didn't read the thread. :D

You have to be joking <_<;;
The art style would remain unchanged... It'd just be in 3d instead of low res 2d... <_<;; Gameplay is going to remain the same, graphics are just better, and scalable.
-
I'm guessing DJ's making some nice models with vector textures or something?
-
Oh dear, the dying words of any project: "it's going to be in 3D now" :P
-
lol, nope. It will get done, don't worry. I've just been busy with uni over the past 3 months or so, I haven't had much time to work on any projects. Might try and get some done over the christmas holidays actually.
-
this is the busiest time of year at my job as well, but come january they're cutting hours (for the win?)

Yeah, but these guys don't mess around. It's gonna be badass guys, keep it up.

Beta approaches.
-
Looks awesome! Glad to see this is still going, this was always one of my favorite projects on here. Also, DJ, excellent sprite work! :D
-
Trees and bushes look too fluorescent, try toning it down a bit, the name tags and text boxes(the one when you get soda not the chat log) don't fit with the rest of the style.
Then if it is night and raining why not give it a blue-ish tone really small one, and make your own rain anim ;) right now it looks exactly like lttp not sure if it's the same.
I'm really loving the graphics, I can see your influence in lttp grass.
btw! my antivirus is blocking binaryphoenix images.
-
Pretty much everything you said there is temporary stuff :P. Only so much art to be made in any given time.
Also what AV is it? D:
-
avast D;, actually it blocks all the binaryphoenix related sites.
-
Odd. Guess they probably don't like the password recovery / remote access stuff I have on the site.

Very awesome idea going on here. I took a look at the video and I'm extremely impressed :). What development tool was used to make this? Also, the only suggestion I have is to make the players move a bit faster; they're walking slower than molasses right now.

Speed varies based on health and perks. They move more than fast enough.
Development is a mix of BlitzMax and C.

Been taking advantage of the SDK. :P
Pretty much just trying things out.
Don't understand how the BGM works because when I try to add it to the map both via the settings OR the sound source it still plays the default music.
But I haven't really come across many issues other than this and zombies seem to spawn in a different layer than incorporated.
Still this game is great fun and it will be fantastic when it's done!

- BGM only works with tracker files for the time being. Were you trying to use a different format? It should be set in the settings. Make sure you not using a gamemode / map script that overrides it though.
- Zombies will normally only spawn on layer 3 (the middle one) - This is where ALL of your objects (apart from decoration stuff) should be positioned, otherwise you will get all kinds of wierd problems.
Anyhow, anyone with a mac got time to help?
-
Best game ever.
Attached debug data.
-
:D. Mac works, thats good!
-
Thanks, that solves a lot of layer issues. And I'll try out the BGM later, I'm hoping that the Wave gametype doesn't override the music? And I tried out both an mp3 file and a wav. Neither worked on the Wave or Deathmatch gametype. Can I check if a gametype's music overrides?
-

As I said, BGM is tracker-format only, we use .it / .xm / etc, we don't use sample based formats (wav, mp3, ogg, etc) for bgm.
:3
-
Tried using a software called OpenMPT to convert my .wav into an .it module, loaded it up and tested it with the .it file, still loaded into the default music. Running on Wave gametype.

8) Ran it on a new map, worked perfectly! Thanks for the help.

Just needed to install libxpm over here on x64 Linux. If you want, I can become a package maintainer for you on the AUR so people can install this thing on ArchLinux. I'd be happy to do so even on other distros that I don't use.
Anyways, screenshots!

At first the audio driver wasn't playing nice with PulseAudio. Another thing noted was, the binary wasn't marked as an executable. Both easy fixes. First one required a reboot, second one just required "chmod +x".. yeah. Good work, Tim. :) Everything works great!
EDIT: This forum needs to learn2scaleimages
EDIT#2: Oh, and just to clarify, I am on a 64-bit distro.
EDIT #3: Zombie Grinder: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.6.15, BuildID[sha1]=0xa3debb3a7183c76e558382144c4893c9f62fbb91, stripped
This'll definitely run on a BSD with the Linux compatibility layer enabled. ;p
-
What was the issue with pulseaudio / how did you fix?
-
What was the issue with pulseaudio / how did you fix?
It just couldn't bind a context to the sound card. Who knows, I haven't been able to reproduce it after restarting the game. Well, I did try changing the sound driver when it wasn't working in the options menu, but I put it back to the default before I restarted the game. And just to be 100% sure, I just ran the game once to see if the bug would happen again.. and no, it didn't. So who the heck knows. ;p In the first screenshot, I think you might be able to see my terminal showing openAL freaking out on the first attempt.
EDIT: Correction, the problem fell with alsa not playing nice, not openal. Sorry. But I wouldn't worry about it if I were you as like I said, the problem hasn't been reproduced since that "one" attempt.
-
I've had a similar problem before. Odd and annoying to pinpoint D:
Also sound driver does jack all on linux, it uses a different audio system in linux (was somewhat of a heck by me to fix things, I'll add the other drivers back in shortly)

I love you. Also great work on the site, Tim!

How do you feel about youtube monetizing? Probably won't do this, but would you approve of play-through videos that are monetized?
Really couldn't care less lol.

Most overpowered weapon evar.
-
Is that the wind sample from A Link to the Past I hear?! This reminds me of C&C 3 with its superweapons for every nation. How would you acquire this weapon? It looks interesting but honestly, needs moar lighting effects ya derp! Looking fantastical, however.

Not sure, jordan made that map, I think its just a random sound from freesound.org tho.

Shop or bought in-game :P. Same as all the other weapons in this game. Contemplating making the laser cannon a donator reward tho.

Yes, yes it does. If it makes you feel better I added a load of heat-shimmer shader effects to it :D
-
Hmm.. if you do the donation award route, you should allow for users to disable it on different servers just to balance that out lol. Also yes heat-shimmer effects! It's about time you've done some work. >: (

I actually took it from Half life 1, lol!

If you vote, Infini will be forced to buy you a box of pizza. <3
-
I guess Infinitus owes me a pizza then! :D Just kidding. But in all seriousness guys, nice job. This game has come really far since it began and the amount of work and effort that you put into it really shows. Congrats.
-
I'm here for my pizza
-
WHERE'S MAH PIZZA
-
Pizza? I voted on it before you even offered. Does that mean I get more?
-
The voters are speaking, President Leonard! Give us pizza or give us death!
-
Wheres my pizza, PizzaMan?
-
I voted for it and fav'd it quite a few days ago on Greenlight. To be completely honest, when Zombie Grinder first came out here on ZFGC, I thought it was cool, but roughly about midway through it's development I thought it was pretty lame (GASP! :o) . BUT, the latest video and information I read has completely changed my mind(HUZZAH!). I thought it'd be boring, endless grinding of zombies, but, while it's mostly about grinding zombies, it's far from boring and there is a lot more to it than "just" shooting zombies. And the multiplayer is really what sells it for me.
Well done, TwinDrills! ... is that name inspired by Gurren Lagann by any chance? The drills that pierce the heavens!... and hell! ...? Ya gotta admit, that would be epic man stuff.
Btw, if there isn't enough pizza to go around, I'll settle for a delicious chocolatey cookie. ;3

Holy !@#$% we've been greenlit!
-
Congratulations on getting greenlit on Steam; really disappointed at lack of promised pizza though. Nah, but really congratulations and good job to you, DJvenom, Desgardes/Delco (???), etc. The hard work that you put into making the game great really shows.

Anyone know another language and want to help + get your name in the credits?
We need some translations doing :3.

I can work on a Japanese localization for it if you'd like
Let me know if you're interested (JP can be some extra work because of all the characters so)
-
Game already has full unicode support. Feel free to start a JP language version if you want :)
-
Hey guys, we've got some paid art work going if your interested, check this topic :)

My friend and I have been playing and having a good time. I have a suggestion though, that both of us thought would be a good idea control wise. This seems like the sort of game that would benefit from the "two d-pad" setup. Where one "d-pad" moves the character, and the other aims the shots, rather than having to hold shift or something. For the keyboard controls, the (default) buttons for this could be WASD for movement and the arrowkeys for firing, or vice versa. Q and E for switching between weapons; then your hand doesn't have to go very far.
The current control scheme sort of reminds me of the console ports of Smash TV. While I think those were fine for the time, the controls were still cumbersome compared to the dual-joystick setup of the arcade version.
Also, could the skill tree not be so zoomed in? Seeing a bit more of it at once would feel a bit better, so you can see what you're trying to get to easier.

Check out the input settings, there is already an option to rebind to a standard twin-stick setup.

On my list :)
