Halo is a fun game, nothing too, too revolutionary ..but not everything has to be a revolution.
While Halo was never quite as revolutionary as many people claim, imo, it is no doubt going to look much less revolutionary 6 years later. Nevertheless, I feel it's a great game. Including a great, perhaps not revolutionary, single player, and decent, fun multiplayer. Of course, there are simple formulas at work here, ..HALO PC(online) isn't quite as thrilling these days, as it was at day 1.
HALO 2 is overall a nice game, but I believe that the multiplayer, while alright, is grossly overrated! It seems quite average, and in some ways even under-featured.. but to this day it's teh-ownage, or something.

Gamers don't care about innovation. They care about entertainment.
And for good reason! Innovation can allow for more entertainment, but Innovation alone does not create entertainment.

Halo pioneered every good aspect from every n64 good FPS (GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, etc), and threw in it's own touch.
I agree, I think that much of HALO's "innovation" was due to how it expertly mixed together the ingredients of successful FPS games of the past, and helped to create some of today's FPS standards.

Debates / Re: Laïcité / separation of state + religion
« on: June 26, 2007, 01:17:25 am »
The problem is that most teachers, being Christian, will give Christianity an unrealistically good appearance. Not to mention that most "facts" regarding Christianity are hard to separate from fiction (though many Christians don't see the need to do so).
I know, I don't mind if a teacher references their prayers or something ..when deviating from another topic, etc.etc....
But if you are a teacher, that TEACHES RELIGION, and if you do it with such a closed point-of-view, I fear for the students who can't see through the teacher, and do their own research. I feel that we all should know that there is a world of religions out there; and believing is all you can do, there is no 'magic' religion that's 100% true because that's the only thing that you were taught in school.

I guess my point is that I agree with you, and add that I feel religion is important to learn about. Learn it from a book, see it for what it is - and only what it is. Ideally, I would support teaching religion, with open-minded teachers - who teach anything, and everything, but without bias. Basically ..Benito =D.

oh, and it's difficult for many staunch Christians to separate religious beliefs from fact. But.. eh, it's a tough problem, with no quick answer.
I firmly think that religion shouldn't exist, so I can't say I support you here. I also think that shouldn't be taught in public schools though for a few reasons, so it would best to leave religion out all together.
I think we agree on more than I let out. I support learning about religions strictly for the reason of being knowledgeable about humanity's earlier roots. Also in order to remain ..err, backwards compatible with staunch religious believers.

Basically, religions exist today, and the best way to not let the younger generation get 'brainwashed' by a religion, is to at least show that there isn't just the one religion that they grew up with, and everything else is weird and unrealistic. All religions are as real/unreal as each other.

Basically, I support teaching about religion in public schools, solely because religion already exists.

Anyone who is intelligently tolerant(a major backbone of today's society) should understand that they need to ..tolerate it. These are high-school kids, mkay: they won't be impurified due to seeing something 'un-holy'; if they are, than they are either ..quite weak, or they are changing their own religious views ..neither of which should be other people's, or my own, business.

Of course, I don't know for sure just how much this ring deviated from the dress-code. Either they are very skimpy about allowing any additions to the dress code, and it would only be excusable if it was 'necessary'; or their excuse is a bunch of BS, and they are idiots.

I think it would be better if schools didn't make their main focus based on religion but I don't think they should ban it outright. I do think learning about religion is important as it is seemingly such a big part of society but at the same time it irritates me when in a religious education lesson they over promote just one religion over all the rest, I don't want an advert I want to be taught.

Another thing is I think the point made about how parents should be the teachers of religion and the figureheads of the religion, I notice such people who have their faith as it were often lean away from ideas that could lead to doubt and so for me studying philosophy with a teacher who taught from a position of neutrality while teaching was very interesting on all topics and in context to this topic on religion.

So to sum up what I have said I think religion should be taught in schools but without any motive to convert or from any one religions perspective.
true.. being such a large part of society, it is important to learn. To learn the facts, not the teacher's closed point-of-view.. I'm in high-school, and I've been taught quite a bit of general religious history, in general social-studies classes. I too, have a good teacher. Teaching neutrally, but effectively. Not skimping on important facts, but not capitalizing on them either. Fortunately, I suppose nobody around here(my area, not the forum =P) is dumb enough to complain over having their religion mentioned. Religions are an important part of our society's history, and as such, an important part of an education.
I don't prohibit other people's needs/wants for faith, but they should know that there is a world out there.

Debates / Re: Homo vs. Hetero
« on: June 25, 2007, 09:37:23 pm »
I didn't read this entire topic(i skimmed through it). I may later, I didn't now ..despite that, here's my viewpoint without addressing any of this thread's personal arguments.

To start, I'll point out the blantantly obvious. In "homo vs. hetero(wut shuld u be?)", it all depends on that individuals sexual orientation, opinions, and urges. There is no "right" on what is stimulating to the general populace.

Now, to dig deeper - restrictive morals that are shared amongst much of society, are generally spread by religion. We have freedom of religion, so I try to ignore this point, but then again, most of society feels the need to not ignore this point. To function in this society(w/o destroying it), certain freedoms(tolerance) must be treated as even more fundamental truth's than whatever any religion says. Many of these people, though, are stagnant in their beliefs, so I try not to force anything on them ..or even discuss it with them. They need to understand a free society on the whole, not have their most precious beliefs(which can be very important) beat out of them.

To me, marriage in its modern, and in its non-religious incarnation, is a deep expression of wanting each other. You want to live with them every day, you want to share your finances, you want to give up some privacy ... and not throw a hissy-fit about it. This is marriage, if you aren't ready to give up some privacy to your spouse, than don't do it. You don't need to be married in order to "make your love official" - be happy with your love yourself. If you're willing to make a sacrifice in the name of your love, and you both, are so, so, so very sure that you're ready, then do it =). Now, as I just described, some couples can be more than ready to make this obligation, while others think "ohhh, hee's my cute man, lets get married and 'make it official'". Some couples who get into marriage without being ready are straight, other's that are ready for marriage, are ...homosexual; and vice-versa.

Of course, in today's world, where "tolerance" is soo key, we seem to have more big-mouths than ever. And many of the gay couples getting married(note: not all >_>), are probably just getting married to show their pride, because they feel that they're advancing a social movement; but are they really ready to be married, personally?

Hay everyone! I have a solution - being "tolerant" is not bitching about it, saying "it's acceptable, I know, but it's so screwed-up in my belief system, that I must cause myself(and possibly you) religious turmoil, by driving you to insult me.

In many ways, "tolerance", has just caused many more tantrums.

But no biggie, if a law is actively being made/changed this week, I'll possibly speak my mind.
If the future of our society is not resting on a changing law, than I'll sit back, and look at all of these personal arguments, as just that: people who feel that they need to express how tolerant they can be - by accepting you ... ... until you step past a point that a holy-man once said was wrong. Nevertheless, until it becomes a 'law', it's just a bunch of harmless bitching that won't affect anyone; so I don't wind myself up over it.

I only responded to this topic, because it was general enough for me to speak my mind, and my whole mind. When people want to !@#$%-slap each other over seemingly insignificant issues that lack "tolerance", I don't speak my mind, it's not worth it, and I will lose - they will too. Not to say that I never, ever argue, but I restrict myself.
But this thread isn't about two people having fits over the other being wrong, this asked for my opinion, I gave it - if you respond, please keep "subtlety" and "tolerance" in mind. If they aren't hurting you to a great extent, or harming society as a whole, than it's nothing but a personal quibble, don't let it hurt you - it's just two individuals bitching at each other. If someone practicing their own beliefs and morals is "mentally" hurting you, when you see them every so often, than you are an extremely weak person.

I'm not gay, but I have my own set of morals. The only thing that I let guide my morals, with the exception of my personal beliefs, are the freedoms that I respect about society - the freedom to do what I want, without taking down society in general. Sounds good, eh? Well practice what you want, be it religious or not - vote people into office that understand these fundamental rights(despite your beliefs) - and while there's nothing wrong with personal quibbles, don't bring your issues to government unless they need to deal with it. And that goes for government too - we don't need some staunch politician preaching to society about gay marriage because he feels it's wrong.

The biggest, and most fundamental job of government today, should be preserving rights. Unfortunately, when too much of a population shares certain religious beliefs, a problem grows where similar morals shape our government. And if similar morals shape our government, than as a society, we regress.

Can't wait to get my Mac Book >=D

I really recommend you to get a Mac Pro (a desktop) and not a MacBook.
It really depends on what he plans to use it for. Desktops are more reliable, ergonomic, future-proof(especially the 'Pro'), etc..

But when you need a computer on the go, you don't have an option! ..Or when you're too lazy to sit at a desk(some of us use laptops in bed(for a variety of reasons >__>)).

I have it a little, but not too bad. Just wash your face with bar soap and cold water twice a day.

No, I do not think you should do that. Soap will just dry your face and perhaps it will make it achy as well.
Regular soaps and shampoos usually just dry out the surface of the skin, and you may still have underlying acne issues. The specialized soaps usually dry out your skin, as well - but at least they also get down there and clean your face deeply, somewhat. Then again, not everything will do much for everyone.

I have a bit of acne, but it helps to use a facial scrub(in the shower), for me at least. Unfortunately, I'm out of that right now, but I think I can finally get more today ..it's been showing a bit since I ran out.

For me, though, the problems get much worse if I as much as touch my face(well, unless it's a big, bulging, ugly thing >_<). Don't touch! Touching is bad(unless it's a DS, lol >__>).

Other Discussion / Re: CDs and DVDs Formats
« on: June 13, 2007, 08:17:27 am »
Hey, hope this helps: (this keyboard+desk setup hurts my wrists after long typing sessions ;_;)

CDs: (sold at 650-700MB)
CD-R: CD Recordable -Write Once
CD-RW: CD Rewritable -Write Multiple Times

note: in order to write to cd-rws, they must be erased first - unless you have the proper software.

note: rewritable cds may cause compatibility issues with older players/drives

To the Best of my Knowledge CD+R/CD+RW do not exist!
________

When it comes to DVDs, things get more complicated n__n :

DVDs:
The 'minus' and 'plus' formats are quite similar when it comes down to actually using them. The 'plus' format was introduced after the DVD Player, and the 'minus' format. Therefore, there is a bit of an issue with compatibility. Some old players may not play 'plus' DVDs. Compatibility on 'plus' DVDs is also partly to do with how the player recognizes the disk, versus if it can actually read it or not. Read up on that here - or don't, whatever >_<.

The 'minus' formats are backed by the "DVD Forum"
The 'plus' formats are backed by the "DVD+RW Alliance"

Write-Once:
DVD-R: DVD Recordable -Holding ~4.7GB
DVD+R: DVD Recordable -Holding ~4.7GB, and only .005GiB less than a DVD-R
DVD-R DL: DVD Recordable Dual-Layer -Holding ~8.54GB
DVD+R DL: DVD Recordable Dual-Layer -Holding ~8.54GB

note: dual-layer dvds pose no compatibility threat versus their single-layer counterparts. Many commercial dvds have been dual-layer for years, and that's why many dvds have a slight pause part way through the movie on some players(layer switch).

Write Twice Three Four Rewritable:
DVD-RW: DVD Rewritable -Holding ~4.7GB
DVD+RW: DVD Rewritable -Holding ~4.7GB
DVD-RW DL: DVD Rewritable Dual-Layer -Holding ~8.5GB (These are very new and near non-existant)
DVD+RW DL: DVD Rewritable Dual-Layer -Holding ~8.5GB (These are very new and near non-existant)

note: DVD+RW has native support for random write access - writing without erasing the whole disk first. Other RWs require workarounds and tools to achieve this.

note: rewritable dvds may cause compatibility issues with older players/drives.

DVD-RAM: DVD-RAMs are in a different group. They organize data more like a Hard Drive, or Floppy Drive - not in the normal circular pattern like other DVDs/CDs do(but the disks are still round =P). They can be formatted in various ways, to various File Systems, and can be written to just like a Hard Drive. Also, these disks are more reliable than the other RWs with important data. Although, with 12x media still in the future, it won't be terribly fast; and as far as using these disks in regular players - compatibility is the worst of the bunch! DVD-RAMs are easy to use with devices like Computers, Camcorders, some DVD-Recorders, and the like. And for good reason - they are like small, slow, portable, and non-moving storage drives(they do spin, there's just no internal movement). Most modern operating systems natively support these. Many drives however, don't.

Do you know if DELL made a new disc drive that supports all formats listed above?
Many new Drives support multiple formats. The Dual-Layer Rewritable formats are very new, and probably aren't supported yet! Also, the Dual-Layer Rewritable disks aren't even being sold yet :P.
For questions on an individual drive, or DELL Model, link me =D.

Haha, months back I heard the same Ad on the the Radio here in Florida, and I too tried to get my free 360. Anyway, I also got pissed when I saw how full of p00 they were!

But hey, the Radio Station will keep airing the Commercials that pay! How do you think they make money? By anally choosing who's "allowed" to advertise with them?

Unfortunately, no. They make money by letting these bitches on, but oh well >_< ..I have my own 360 these days, anyway.

While I almost feel at guilt for bumping this !@#$%, I must say that it's a shame that some of you feel so ..'strongly' about this.

I'm currently using IE7 on my Sister's computer(I really need a USB Stick for "Portable Firefox"), and every time that I have opened a browser window, MSN has popped up with the headline: "Paris Hilton Sent Back to Jail: Weeping heiress yells, 'It's not right!' as she's led from courtroom".

It was disappointing to me that this "news" was not quarantined to the entertainment section, but was instead plastered all over the front page, ..but of course they only put it there to appeal to you stupid fucks. Nevertheless, all throughout today, I didn't click on it(I had opened the browser for other reasons) - that is until I saw that even ZFGC was talking about it! Now, that in itself is no big deal - some ZFGC member is only reposting what he/she had shoved in his/her face at some "news" website...

But some of your ‘strong’ feelings regarding this gossip is just disgusting, ..why do you give a !@#$%? Is it that you actually don’t care, so you retaliate by bashing her? Well, understand that what keeps her in the public light is just as much her fans + her fame, as it is you people, who will read this junk and laugh at her, but will nevertheless READ IT.

When it comes down to it, a click is a click - so there you go! Now your enemy is plastered all over your most frequented news pages!

God dammit America loves to cater to celebrities.
God dammit America loves to gossip about celebrities.

Um... regular every day Americans get wavered sentences all the time.  Too often.  You just don't hear about them, because they're not celebraties.
Indeed..

EDIT: ..i came off a bit harsh XD, ..oh well, that's still my general outlook, and I'm not editing sticking to it.

To change the mood of this thread, and not mention his life ..I thought that that was incredible! Absolutely Awesome! ..but then again, I haven't done anything for a while, myself =|.
